Welcome to JOYFUL REFLECTIONS. Also welcome to MARCH!!!! My header picture this month is a photo I took of the pretty Crocus blooms in our yard... The Crocuses and Daffodils are the first signs of spring here in Tennessee. I am definitely ready for SPRING...

CHIHULY Glass Sculptures/Display at BILTMORE --9/25/18

When we got to Biltmore in LATE afternoon,  the afternoon sun was hitting this Chihuly Sculpture.
Hello  Friends,   On August 8,  2018 (on my Birthday Trip),  George and I visited  Biltmore House and Gardens in Asheville,  North Carolina.   While there,  we got to see (for the first time) the beautiful glass sculptures and exhibits  by the artist  Chihuly....   All I could say at that time was WOW.... We loved it...

In fact we enjoyed it so much during the day that we decided to go back and see them at NIGHT.... We did this on 9/25/18.....  As spectacular as they were during the day,  they were even more awesome at night....  Today I am sharing with you some of my photos from that night visit to Biltmore....  Hope you enjoy!!!!!

Everywhere we walked,  we saw beautiful and COLORFUL displays just like this one.   I'm partial to the Jewel tones --so most of my favorite pictures are of those colors.

But--I also loved the reds/yellows.....

This was the only display on the inside of the house...  It was so pretty and bigger than my picture appears...  GORGEOUS!

The displays in the Italian Gardens were some of my favorites....  It is hard to believe that all of these were made out of glass...  Amazing!!!

Another beauty in the Italian Gardens

More of my favorite Jewel Tones;     And the greens at the bottom ADD so much... Can you believe that everything you see is made from GLASS?????   Wow.

Outside of the big HOUSE,  they had a huge  water display  --and this is just a part of it.

I love the colors in this display  (also part of the large display outside at the front of the house--like the picture above).   For that reason,  I used this picture as my 'header' on my blog this month.  Hope you like it.

Another picture from the Italian Gardens that I love....   See the REDS in the background.... Now look at the next picture.

I love this picture of the boat (in the Italian Gardens) --along with the beautiful sky after sundown. My friend Ginny said this looked  like a big BONFIRE in the water....

Here is the same picture -- closer,  with a slightly different angle.   Besides the colors in the boat and the gorgeous evening sky,  I also love seeing a part of the big HOUSE in this picture  (in the Italian Gardens).

Another favorite of mine;   Showing the top of one of the Chihuly sculptures ---along with the colors in the late afternoon sky

I saved this one until the end since it truly is amazing  ---showing a boat filled with all kinds of colored glass balls;  Love the balls in the water --and all of the reflections!!!

They were taking pictures inside the house  --so of course,  George and I had to get one taken together.
We had a great evening  ---and the word which kept coming to my mind was MAGICAL....  I hope you enjoyed my photos from that evening...

Here's some interesting information for you:  Neither George nor I took our big Canons nor our tripod.   We took all of our pictures with our iPhones.  I have an iPhone 7+  and George has an iPhone 8+.....     We are both happy with the cameras in those phones.   Night pictures are especially good I think.  I hope you enjoyed my photos!!!!!

Have a great week.

Hugs,

thanks for sharing! Chihuly is amazing, and if you 'do' roses, the Chihuly rose is amazing too! Bright yellow/orange mix!

The glass sculptures are spectacular. I have seen some pictures on Facebook from other friends, too, who have seen these sculptures. Yours, though, are the first I have seen at night. Wonderful picture of you two at the end.

Wow, these are simply amazing and fascinating. I love the one with the glass balls in the boat. The one in the boat with the reds does look like a fire.

Hello Betsy, the glass sculptures are beautiful. I think we saw some of this exhibit once in Las Vegas. I have been wanting to visit Biltmore, we have never been there. Thanks for sharing your visit. Great photos from your phones. Happy Monday, enjoy your day and week ahead.

You got great pictures of the Chihuly sculptures -- I really enjoyed our nighttime visit. I'm very happy with the photos we get with our iPhones.

Some amazing work went into that glass. I know because Dan spent 10 years with glassblowing as a hobby. We have many of his pieces but many we sold when we downsized.

So are they going to keep that beautiful glass there or are they going to take it away - I would love to see it.

Wow, I guess phones are getting better and better cameras. I have seen quite a few of these in Richmond, but some are new to me. They are amazing! He has such vision and talent. Your first picture looks like the sun with rays coming out. The picture before the boat is so artistic! And I'm glad you included the water bonfire! I think that one is my favorite, it is so magical. GREAT picture of you and George!

Your photos turned out wonderful! We are getting used to taking more pics with our phones, too. I'm glad you shared lots of pretty photos. We didn't get a chance to go to the Biltmore while we were there. It was a 'working' and helping others out trip. I finally got a couple of hikes in on the last few days. I like your night time photos best....I'll go look at them again! Hugs to you both!

Other bloggers have posted Chihuly sculptures and I am always blown away by the beauty. Wow. Hope to someday see them in person but your pictures will do for now. Loved the boat the best.

Betsy, Chihuly glass 'sculptures' are amazing and the colors they use only enhance the look! FYI, My wife has a Samsung Galaxy S7 and it takes pictures as well as my Canon does in many settings. I can get my simple Canon camera up and taking photos faster and with a little less fuss focus wise. The Canon is better shooting long distance shot and magnified views at distance. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

These are all beyond amazing. The colors are rich and vibrant and it looks like the sky was trying to compete with those sculpted colors. I admit that the iPhone does a great job in many pictures. I use mine often.

The glass artwork is truly incredible...such beauty and rich in color. I especially like the one that looked like a bonfire, beautiful colors. Your IPhones took some amazing pictures, and I bet it was better than hauling all the camera hardware around.

The sculptures are so pretty Betsy. They remind me very much at the glass sculptures on display at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the cancer treatment wing. I can’t even begin to imagine the skill needed to produce such beauty. You and George look wonderful too.
Blessings,
Betsy

Awesome display of glass sculptures! I too feel magical as you and great capture of the marvellous glass work and play of colors. The twilight sky and lighting make look sculptures impressive and wonderful to hear it all shot with iPhones! As you know I too use iPhone cam more now. Glad you made it enjoy both day and night.

I saw a couple of those you had posted on FaceBook. Those are gorgeous sculptures and you did an excellent job with the photography. Yes - - the quality of pics with our phones is astounding. Some of those Sculptures are huge.
Can you imagine being the company/persons in charge of transporting those without breaking them?! How is that for pressure?!!

Dear Betsy, thanks so much for sharing these photographs here and also those you are putting on Facebook. The glass sculptures truly are--to use your word--"Magical." So much loveliness and beauty; so much creativity and innovation. How wonderful they are. Peace.

Gorgeous photos, Betsy! I love Chihuly's glass sculptures. I saw a display of his work at the Botanical gardens in Columbus Ohio a couple years ago. So amazing!

This is an amazing display. The sculptures are breathtaking. The smart phones take great photos and there are so many tricks yo learn in phone photography. We did a lesson on it at camera club.

I love the boat filled with glass orbs the best too. I saw this here at the Virginia Museum of fine arts a few years ago and it was breathtaking. You have some wonderful pictures of his art .
