Our Yard in EARLY Spring--Photos taken on 3/24/15

The first Spring flowers to bloom this year were our CROCUSES.  We had quite a few of these beauties around the yard --but they are now gone. SO,  I wanted to share this one with you,  taken on 3/15/15.
On Tuesday,  March 24, 2015,  George and I 'walked the yard' ---looking for new Spring growth... We have both been busy cleaning the yard after all of the damage and devastation caused by our Winter Storms.  At one time,  we were not sure what Spring Flowers we would have this year, if any.   BUT---things are beginning to really look good, thanks be to God.  SO---today (since I have showed you so much doom and gloom),  I want to share what is happening in our yard right now!!!!!!  Things are beginning to 'green up'.... WOW---so exciting!!!!

Hope you enjoy seeing the beginnings of Spring in our yard!!!!  You can click on the photos for enlargements!

We have many DAFFODILS (Jonquils) ----of all shapes, sizes and colors--in our yard... I love Daffodils,  don't you?

I love the colors in this HYACINTH.... It's got some purple in it --and also some dark burgundy...

This is our big Rose Bed (but the roses won't bloom until May).  SO---we've added many other pretty flowers to this bed.  Today,  you can see Daffodils,  Hyacinths,  and one lone Tulip blooming.  AND---there are many more blooms to come.

Most of you know that we plant our Pansies in late Fall to give us a little color in the yard during winter.... WELL---even after a harsh winter this year,  the PANSIES are coming back and many are blooming.  Don't you love this red/black one?

I love this close up of this HYACINTH.. The light and dark pink colors are SO pretty...

Our PERIWINKLE Ground Cover is blooming.  We have Periwinkle planted in several places around the yard --and it's so pretty this time of year.  I love the BLUE flowers.

Here's another of my favorite DAFFODILS in our yard...  SO pretty!

Here's another pretty HYACINTH blooming in our yard.  I love this hot pink/rose color.

Our Front Yard
This photo shows you the front yard ---showing how everything including the grass is beginning to turn GREEN...  This is so exciting for us --especially this year.   We just experienced one of the worst winters we have ever been through.  I hope and pray that we never have another one.   BUT--the good news is that things are coming back and we are beginning to 'feel' spring in our yard.

Hope you enjoyed seeing some of these early colors.  Since we plant many flowers,  we'll be sharing more and more as the season progresses... BUT---I do ask for prayers and good thoughts  that the upcoming cold front (Fri/Sat) here won't bring too much cold weather which can damage some of these little Spring beauties.... Friday nights low is supposed to be about 23 and Saturday night,  the low is supposed to be 26.....  GADS----tell me it 'ain't' so!!!!!

Hugs,

Well your post brings a breath of spring. Gorgeous flowers appearing now after the terrible winter you had. I have never seen such a red Pansy as yours before.

Very nice display. I have had crocus and am excited to see all the new bulbs I put in last fall.

I sure did enjoy your photos, Betsy! I have a brown thumb (well, mostly because I don't like working in the yard) so we have no pretty flowers in our yard. I love seeing everyone else's!!

Spring at last! Gorgeous shots. It's still cold here...

Thanks for sharing Spring with us. The flowers are all so pretty. We are cold and rainy/cloudy here so Spring seems very far away. The purple Hyacinth is my favorite.

Thanks for the touch of spring. I know it will reach us soon enough. Supposed to be 75 today but then back to the 40s tomorrow. I can smell the hyacinths at your house! :)

Nice photos of a beautiful spring day. Last year I see I first posted some spring flowers about a month from now, in late April, but it's nice to know it's headed our way.

All very pretty and I love how you have your rose beds terraced!

Your bulbs are so pretty. Only the tips of bulb foliage showing here. Note to self: Plant crocus this fall so I can have earlier color.

Love how you planted early bloomers to make the way for the long term bloomers. I really like all the stone work George has done in your yard. It really sets off the many beds. You could hire him out.

Your yard and flowers are so beautiful. I am especially amazed at the pansies that survived your winter. Here's hoping the weekend won't be too bad.
Blessings,
Betsy

It's getting colorful at your place and hopefully this cold snap won't hurt anything.

I must admit that I like the look of our yard in March much better than I liked the February look.

Betsy, such beautiful colors to greet me on your blog this Thursday morning. We are just now seeing the little green sprouts coming up through the mulch.

I realize IT TAKES A LOT OF WORK AND TIME, BUT IT DEFINITELY HAS PAID OFF FOR YOU TWO. YOU HAVE ONE OF THE MOST GORGEOUS YARDS EVER.

Betsy, You certainly have some beautiful flowers in your garden! It's been a terrific weather week...but Friday and Saturday nights may well knock down many of the blooms on the plateau and in the valley too. Mother Nature at work and it's not always a positive thing... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

I loved the walk through your yard and all the beauties there. I don't think I have ever seen a Pansy as red as that one.Very pretty. Our snow from yesterday is slowly melting but it is still quite cool.Spring will come,I just have to be patient.:)

Ginny Hartzler said...

The little red pansy is not big or splashy, but it is my favorite!! Plus, you rarely see this color in a pansy. Also the pink hyacinth is gorgeous! I told George that even if the storm ruined some flowers, you have so many, and that will make up for it. So I bet your yard will still be just as beautiful. I LOVE your header! Your pretty green house with the snow whipping across it and the icicles. It for sure was being attacked!

Isn't it wonderful to wander your yard and to see familiar flowers coming up and then blooming? Natural beauty adds so much to our daily lives. Thanks for sharing the great photos with us!

You always have the most beautiful flowers in your yard. I always look forward to the Crocuse and I love the white daffodils with the dark orange center. Guess I should get some Crocuse bulbs for my flower bed.

Wow, it's really springtime there. Love all your flowers. Most of our snow is all melted but all we see right now is mud and a lot of dead looking things

Spring has definitely sprung in your yard! It's looking lovely! My daffodils are bidding but it's getting cold tonight so we'll see. I noticed today my perwinkle is shooting through the ground. You are so far ahead of us.

Wow! You already have quite a bit. I just have crocuses in bloom right now. Although tulips and daffodils are about 4 inches up.

My Daffodils didn't last very long. They fell over and died off. Your flowers are beautiful!

I sure do love your spring flowers!
No blooms here yet, it'll be a while.. But our snow is gone except for little bits in the woods, and we've done spring yard clean up already! (quite on the early side for us to be able to do that.)
Enjoy today and your weekend, Betsy!

Hi Betsy, I am glad you bulbs have come up so very well. Beautiful! I had the only rose in our yard revert back to rootstock blooms because the top had frozen this Winter. So, I think a new rose bush will be in our future. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your lovely yards!

Connie said...

Gorgeous flowers, Betsy! You are way ahead of us. Crocuses are the only flowers we have out yet. I hope it doesn't get too cold for your flowers this weekend.

Your yard looks very pretty with all the different Spring flowers appearing. One morning this week in our corner of the UK we woke up to a thin coating of ice on the ground which had damaged the delicate crocuses. The day before had been sunny and I'm sorry I didn't take any photos at the time as I love to see the crocuses in bloom. The weather is very changeable. Have a lovely weekend!

Sometimes the best Springs come after a very cold and snowy winter, Betsy! It is as if the earth is extra happy to be re-born! I hope you did not get a frost and that all your bulbs continue to grow and thrive.
