Early Fall in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee

A Little Color is showing up around our home on 10/4/14
As you know (since I have told you many times --ha),  George and I love to 'walk the yard' early each morning.  Most of the Summer,  we were taking pictures of our flowers.  Then---as the colors began to change in early Fall,  we took pictures of these changes.  SO---my post today will show you our yard including colors and other decorations in early Fall (from the end of September until about October 4).   As the colors continue to change throughout October and November,  I'm sure I will share many more Autumn Colors with you.

BUT--today,  I hope you will enjoy some pictures from Early Fall here at home...  Be sure to click on the pictures for enlargements.

Meet Toby---our new Autumn door decoration!!!! (The last Toby finally fell apart died last year --so we replaced him with this one.  Cute, huh?)

Some of the red colors around here turned early this year.

Vinca is one of the annuals we plant in Summer to replace our Winter Pansies.  Vinca does well here in sunshine and warm temperatures.

Autumn Joy Sedum;   Dad Adams gave us a bunch of these plants --and they look nice in Fall --since their colors change to a Fall-colored burgundy --and then to a brown as Fall begins to end.

Autumn Joy Sedum ---close up and personal!

Colors changing in one of the empty lots next to us

More of our pretty VINCA

The front porch in Autumn

A new Winter Pansy in our yard;  We will plant more Pansies once the Vinca dies out.

Combo for you:  Vinca,  Pansy,  and Hosta

Our Pink Dogwood is always one of the first trees to change colors in Autumn.

Another one of our new Winter Pansies (Pretty colors,  don't you think?)

Can you believe this one????  This is an AZALEA blossom in OCTOBER.  We have several Azalea Bushes in our yard --and I have never had one to bloom in the Fall.  Azaleas ALWAYS bloom in Spring!!!!  AND--this little blossom is the ONLY one... Crazy Flower!

Vinca and a Winter Pansy  (Wonder if the Pansies will make it through another hard winter --which is what they say we will have again this year???  Last year,  we lost about half of our Winter Pansies during our frigid winter..)

Finally this is our Fireplace and some Autumn decorations inside.  Oh how I love Fall!!!
Hope you enjoyed seeing our Yard/Home in Early Fall,  2014.  We still have some Roses in bloom and there are some Irises (re-bloomers) getting ready to bloom.  BUT--soon the Hosta,  Autumn Joy Sedum,  Azalea (YES--that one!),  and the Vinca will all be gone --and the only thing left to bloom during the winter are our Winter Pansies!!!

Hugs,

The tree color where are more yellow than red with all the tulip poplars. I'm awaiting my camera return then I can share what fall looks like from here.

Sorry that should say "the tree color here".

Your trees almost match mine. Colors are changing fast.

Our fall color is slow in arriving. I wonder if the cool summer made a difference. Of course, there are pops of color all around. Loved my "stroll" around your garden with my first cup of coffee.

Best,
Bonnie

Can't believe you have pansies that bloom in the Fall. Almost all of our flowers are dead by now. Tobie sure is cute holding down your front porch. Thank you fro the stroll around your yard to enjoy your Fall flora.

Liene said...

Yes, dogwoods are some of the first trees to turn here also. Red maples and sycamores are just starting. As a new gardener to the south, last winter was the first my pansies overwintered... and they are still alive! Wonder if they'll make it through a second winter? Your home looks so green amongst all that color!

Beautiful set of pictures. My favorite is that warm fireplace. Right now I would love to curl up close to it and enjoy the warmth. it's below freezing here this morning.

You do have a beautiful yard and a lovely home!! I would "walk" it everyday too! I wish I enjoyed yard work and gardening, but I don't. Our yard is not pretty at all.

Our trees are changing quickly up here in the Northwest too. I enjoyed the walk around your home this morning very much. It looks like such a peaceful and welcoming place. Thank you for letting me visit.
Blessings,
The "other" Betsy

You captured the beautiful color of autumn around our house very nicely. I hope we get to get lots more color before winter arrives.

Many are posting the colors of trees in fall, but I haven't seen a winter pansy on the blogs...so pretty!

You live in such a beautiful part of the US and you have enhanced the beauty, even more so, by surrounding yorself with a variety of blooms throughout the seasons. Love your little straw man. What a nice house you have.

Now you'll always have a strawman when you get into a debate with someone! Looks lovely around your place! The only thing that blooms around here in the winter are the gorgeous flowers Jack Frost paints on our windows! Enjoying the seasons!

How wonderful to be surrounded by so much colorful beauty -- regardless of the season! Delightful captures as always, Betsy! Thanks for sharing the beauty of your world with us! Have a great, fun weekend!!

Betsy, Very nice photos! Your trees color changes up on the Cumberland Plateau are a fair amount ahead of ours down in the valley. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

I know I have told you this before, but your house is so lovely and it looks like you live in a beautiful place.

You still have so much colour in your garden from the changing colours of the foliage to those winter pansies.

Ginny said...

The sweet pansies and the sweet Toby are my favorites! I love the winter colored one! And your pumpkin bears, AWESOME!! I would like one, so were did you buy them? Probably someplace far away!

Lucky you to have flowers (of any sort) year round...we won't. It's raining here and cold and wet and cold and well you get the picture.

Hello Betsy, they are all beautiful as always. It's been many years since i first found your blogpost, and i still remember the wonderful autumn colors. In fact, i asked you for a fall photo as one of my screensavers. It seems your area has one of the best fall colors there in the US!

Really nice photos! I want to live at your house! It is so pretty!
I'm still waiting for the palm trees to start turning color, but I don't think it's going to happen.

The fireplace looks so cozy! That's one thing our house lacks. Our last house had a wonderful fireplace in the upstairs family room. We used it all the time. Our current house was built around 1902 and the builder wanted to be "modern" and not have a fireplace.

Your flowers are pretty. All I have left is my autumn sedum. Lots of leaves beginning to fall here.

Hi Betsy, Lovely! I do miss those fall colors. My begonias are perking up because our weather has been a tiny bit cooler - I planted the begonias over a year ago so I got my money's worth of two 4" pots of these annuals. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy beautiful FFG!

In Texas, the foliage does not change until we get a frost. You live in a year round paradise.

Happy Fall, Betsy! I've been away from my blog friends for too long, had to stop & see how you're doing. :)
(I need to do some catching up myself.)
We had snow today, and this evening I slipped on our front porch, which was coated in ice for the first time this year.. Burr!
Refreshing seeing all this fall color and life. Ours have all gone dormant til about next May. :)
