Rapids of Bull Sluice

Bull Sluice  (from the overlook on the South Carolina side of the river),  5/18/14
Bull Sluice (on the South Carolina/Georgia border near Highway 76) is a series of rapids along the Chattooga River.  Kayakers and others who enjoy rapids love this one --although it is considered very dangerous.  There have been at least 8 people who have lost their lives on this course.

George and I stopped here once before ---but we wanted to check it out again since we were traveling in that area.  We were there on May 18,  2014  on our way to the beach.  Today I'll share a few photos from Bull Sluice.  Be sure to click on them for enlargements.

We enjoyed watching the 'white-water-rafting' while there...

I love George's special 'fancy' water photos --with his special lens/tripod.... Looks like silk!!!

Here is George with his tripod doing his 'thing'.... I enjoy watching him work to get good water photos.

This is what I get to do when George is photographing water!!!!   (He knew I took a picture of him -so he took one of me too!!!!!)

This boat (group of 4) scared me --since the boat got turned around... See the next photo to see what happened...

OOPS.... Only one person left in the boat!!!!  YIPES... Three fell out!!!!!  (The good news is that, luckily,  they were all fine!!!)  Kinda scary to watch though.

Here's one more photo showing what the area looks like ---as those boats have to manipulate around the rocks in the raging water.

Finally,  here's one more 'fancy' photo by George of those rapids.... The best water photos one can get is in raging water like this.  George was in 7th heaven on this day!!!!
Hope you are having a good Wednesday.  I will see you on Friday!!!!

Hugs,

That looks terrifying to me Betsy! Falling overboard in those rapids would be the end for me. Seriously. I don't swim-I only play in the water. But George's photos are amazing. Very beautiful. Has he ever had a showing of his work? All of your gorgeous waterfall and river shots should be shared. :-)
The picture of you looks very happy. I hope you're feeling your very best again and enjoying life to the fullest.
Blessings,
Betsy

No way would you catch me in one of those rafts but I would love to be there to see the sights.

That IS NOT by idea of fun. I love LOOKING at the water NOT being in it. :)

I'ld be wanting to wear a life jacket riding on those waters! Beautiful though!

The kayakers are brave, you wouldn't see me in that water! It is a beautiful scene lovely shots!

Looks like lots of fun if you're a kayaker!

Great photos of the rapids. I love watching people kayak, but it isn't something I would do in white water rapids. Maybe I'm just a senior citizen.

I would like to give these a try, looks fun

I'm sure it's exhilarating for some to be out on those rapids but I think photographing them is just as thrilling as can be seen from George's photos and your enjoyment of watching him and being together.

I love the Chatooga! It's no wonder the river has been named a Wild and Scenic River, with spots like Bull Sluice! Will have to put this on our list of places to visit - thanks for the tour!

I'm always in seventh heaven when I'm with you -- no water necessary!

Great pictures, Betsy! Those look beautiful but dangerous.

I'm thinking by now it will be easier and shorter to keep a list of falls you haven't seen (especially in the East) than the ones you have seen.

Beautiful spot! I have always wanted to go white water rafting!

That last picture of George's was really spectacular!

The water looks great, but I would rather be on shore than in one of those boats.

Bull Sluice Falls are magnificent. Your husband did a fabulous jobs taking the photos. That is a very pretty photo of you, too. Thanks for the trip to this beautiful place. I enjoyed all of the pictures very much. Have a blessed day.

I don't know if I could stand to watch one of the boats/kayakers go down those rapids. I would probably have a heart attack!

The last picture, George's, is heaven, the best here today! But I do love those idiots in the yellow kayak, too. A drama filled post today! But still your header, SO awesome. And did you notice something abut it? The top half is fluffy and puffy, and the bottom half is all straight lines. An art genius might tell us that is partly why it is so gorgeous, it has everything.

Very scary to watch for me:)
But George pictures were awesome and you too:)

Nice photos. I'd be afraid to be in that rushing water.

Very scary! Beautiful but there to remind us how powerful nature can be...and how tenuous is life when we challenge it! Glad no one was hurt as you watched! Great photos, especially the last "fancy" one. I'd love to do some whitewater rafting, but only on the "bunny run." :-)

Betsy, George sure took some great photos! Beautiful rapids! Even when I was young, I never had enough nerve to try white water rafting...

Hi Betsy!
I think I would admire Bull Sluice from where you were standing too! I would have fell out of that boat within seconds, the water certainly is powerful and I love the contrast between the silk and the strength represented in the photo's (great pics George!) x x x

I like that you two took photos of each other at the same time.

Those are some beautiful photos. That rafting scares me now that I am older. We use to ride the rapids when I was younger. Now we just watch them.

Miss Debbie said...

I'm with you...looking at the rapids, not riding them!! :-)

That sure is a beautiful place! I did in fact enlarge them all. You both take fantastic photos!

It sure is white water rapids. Must be exciting to be so close. George does a great job with his smooth water shots.

Neat photos! My brother was injured on a white water rafting trip in WV, and his knee has never been the same. Hearing his scary story is enough to keep me away from trying it!

First off---no rafting the rapids for me---a lazy float down a calm river--maybe!!!
Love the water shots and both of you too. MB

I wonder how the name Bull Sluice came about? Sorry, if you mentioned it, but scrolling is making me dizzy so I won't read again. Your photos and George's are beautiful!

I love that photo that George took of you, Betsy. I must say that his water photos are really fabulous! Sigh... I wish I knew how to do that.
