Welcome to JOYFUL REFLECTIONS. Also welcome to MARCH!!!! My header picture this month is a photo I took of the pretty Crocus blooms in our yard... The Crocuses and Daffodils are the first signs of spring here in Tennessee. I am definitely ready for SPRING...

Jiggers Creek Falls

When we went to Amicalola Falls State Park in the North Georgia mountains to celebrate George's birthday on March 9,   we stopped on the way down there to see two waterfalls... The first one was totally new to us ---and I'm featuring it today.

The Falls on Jiggers Creek are WAY back in the mountains not too far from Cisco in  Murray County,  Georgia.  The drive on the graveled/dirt forest road was pretty --and being back in the mountains is such a joy for us.  This waterfall can be seen from the road;  however,  George scrambled down the path to get the best view from the bottom.   He took the picture above of Jiggers Creek Falls... Isn't it pretty?

I took this picture from above --on the road,  from a distance.  The falls were still pretty although there were many trees between me and the water!!!

This is what a forest road looks like...  Our little Prius just does GREAT on these old mountain roads --whether we are going up or down...  The Forest Service does a good job of keeping these roads clear for those who enjoy driving back in the mountains --like US!!!!! ha

George took this picture of me --once we found Jiggers Creek Falls... You can see how happy I was to be there!!!!!

I enjoy walking along the creek... This picture shows the creek above the waterfall. The Rhododendrons were so pretty also.

I took this picture of George down on the creek bank getting some GREAT pictures of Jiggers Creek Falls.

Here's one more picture of Jiggers Creek Falls,  taken by George.  This time, though,  he managed to get ME in the picture also...See me?????

Hope you enjoyed our mountain ride to see Jiggers Creek Falls.  I don't have any idea where the name "Jiggers" comes from... Many of the creeks we visit have unusual names!!!!!

Have a wonderful day.  As I write this (on Tuesday night),  we are expecting more severe storms during the night tonight and in the morning.  We have had VERY high winds off and on Tuesday, and the temperature got up to 79 degrees today.  I mentioned to someone in a comment tonight that Mother Nature needs to take a "happy pill".... ha

Hugs,

These falls are lovely. I'm sitting her imagining the sound and the smells.
I love discovering things with my husband just like you do with George. And we love back country roads too.
I esp. like that last shot with you at the top. It's cool how close you could stand to it.
We were send home very early yesterdy---they should have called it off to begin with. I had to drive through water -- it was still very low and my Mountainer is high(I know how to 'measure' whether it's safe or not, but I was irritated that our district cuts it so close). High winds, thunderstorms, and possibly hail are predicted here ---I'm waiting to hear about school today.
Keep dry! :)

Hello Betsy, What pretty photos of the waterfalls. Don't you love having a waterfall all to yourselves! Thanks for sharing your visit and I hope you won't have severe weather.

Did you guys get any jiggers? I would think you might get some at Jiggers Creek Falls.

They are a tiny mite, you know, I am sure you expected this question.

Our ticks are out so be careful. I like the photo with you in the background as it certainly gives perspective on the size of the falls.

I can see why you enjoy driving in the mountains, it is beautiful scenery. George is a pro at taking waterfall shots. It sure is a pretty one. We have seen on TV all the bad storms and tornados that are occurring in the States. I hope you keep safe.

Hi Betsy: Nice to "see" you up close this morning. You know I enjoy my treks with you and George! They bring me such happy memories--right down to the hint of red clay on the gravel road.

I hope your evening/night wasn't too bad. A tornado went right through my sister's small town of Stuarts Draft last Saturday (near Ginny). They had no damage while a neighborhood across the street had a great deal.

Best,
Bonnie

Poor Mother nature; we always blame the bad stuff on her. :)
Lovely photos of a beautiful area Betsy. I would love to name the falls...how fun!!!!

Hi Betsy, you look like you are so enjoying being out in the beautiful wooded mountains with a waterfall nearby! Great shots of the waterfall. And I really like that you showed us a shot of the mountain road. The roads must be pretty well marked? I'd be half afraid of getting lost! Hope you all came through the stormy weather okay.

Those falls are really spectacular. I'd go along with your "happy pill" comment too. Usually this is the most beautiful time of spring up here, but so far, we mostly have daffodils. The trees are just starting to have some tiny buds on them. The forsythia seem to be out but mine only has a few blossoms. I hope the winter didn't damage it.

Have a great day, and a Blessed Easter.

hi Betsy, what a beautiful water falls. I will have to check it out next time I go to visit my son who lives just outside of Athens, GA. Hope everything is okay by you after the severe weather storm. Here in Wisconsin we have had snow and high winds again. Can't wait for Spring to arrive.

Isn't it wonderful to be married to someone who has your same interest! There is just something about being with your loved one ~ way out in the boonies enjoying what The Good Lord has put on this earth for our enjoyment. Like you ... I love eye candy. It comes in all forms ~ you just have to open your eyes and find it. Have a wonderful day and as always, thanks for sharing!

Betsy, You and George always take the most amazing pictures. It's so wonderful that you are out and about doing what you so obviously love., and like Mel said, you get to do it together.

That waterfall looks as if it was worth the effort it took to get to it. Very pretty. George got some great shots.

I enjoyed this journey to Jiggers Creek. We have a little creek running through our property. I must take pictuers some time.
We are in the middle of yet another snowstorm. I am fighting with the weather to keep the birds fed. Even the jays and grackles.

As always, enjoyed the shots of the falls. I really like the nice photo of you and with a happy face. That is great. I am sure from what you have shared with us, you and George both are happy-go-lucky.

Jiggers... I like the name... it's fun to say! heheheee

Very pretty, too, Betsy! WoW!

I have to ask you something... when ya'll are out walking in the woods like that, what do you use to keep ticks, seed ticks, chiggers, & all those ANNOYING lil critters off of you??? I've gotten to where I dread hiking anymore cuz I ALWAYS find a nest & spend the next 2 weeks SCRATCHING MY SKIN OFF! LoL!

Another amazing waterfall, Betsy! Missing the waterfalls here in Belgium. I think they have a few, just need to figure out where since there really isn't any mountains here.

I agree that mother nature needs to take something to get the sting out. That is a beautiful place. What a peaceful place to sit and enjoy the sounds. Hope the weather didn't get too bad.

What a name!! Maybe a lot of those little "jigger/chigger" bugs hand out there in the summer! :-)

I'm bleary-eyed this morning because the air raid went off all night as the storms ripped through. Not a lot of damage though, so that was good!

Ginny Hartzler said...

The first and second pictures don't even look like the same waterfall. Perspective, I guess! That road looks scary to me. It is the kind of road that I will make Phil back up and leave if we ever happen onto it! This fall does look like three cascades from some viewpoints. Ever see any chipmunks?

We had horrible wind here...no tornado...we lost four or five sections of our 12 ft privacy fence...the posts holding it up snapped of at the ground...
Have a beautiful day!!!

Cool waterfalls! Betsy, I can hear the rushing of the water as I gaze at the photos!
But best of all, I love the photo George took of you smiling; that is a great picture!
I agree, Mother Nature certainly does need to go on Prozac or something as she certainly has been in a foul mood as of late!
Lighten up there, Mother!

Imagine, you are still finding new waterfalls. Amazing. This is the time of year of water falls though, spring run off and all.

Still nippy here too. Little snow flurries every day but nothing that stays, thank goodness.

The pictures are just awesome. I wish I could be there. I miss Nature a lot lately. It's wonderful that you know where to find it...and that you share.
Bless you,

What a wonderful post, Betsy! I can see from the smile on your face that you do indeed love the mountains. You know, that picture of the road could just as easily have been made just above my cabin on Finger Boards Road. ☺ BTW - "Jiggers" was a comic strip character when I was a kid. Could it be he whom the falls was named for???

The Retired One said...

I just loved that first and last shot..George got the shutter speed perfect..it looked dreamy but not too dreamy...perfect lighting...excellent!!!! You should frame those!

Now if we could just hear the water falling, it would be the most perfect post ever! Thanks for sharing!

What a beautiful waterfall. I always enjoy seeing the waterfalls in your & George's trips.
Nasty weather all around. Sad about the awful destruction & deaths. We've only got a little wind & today late we got a much needed shower. I don't think it was enough water so may have to water tomorrow. We'll see.

I hope those storms do not bring any damage your way, Betsy! I am still in Colorado and the weather has been beautiful so far this week.

Jiggers falls are very beautiful! I love the photo of you at the very top of the falls.

Jo said...

Oh Betsy, you do visit the most spectacular places. And so many remind me of the hikes Sue (my friend here on camp) and I do through the African bush. Water is not in such high supply but we did sit in the river, on rocks to watch birds yesterday . You would LOVE it here, as we would LOVE it in your beautiful world. I hope your weather treats to you to a lovely weekend. Blessed Easter to you and George, my precious friend. (((hugs))) Jo
