Welcome to JOYFUL REFLECTIONS. Also welcome to MARCH!!!! My header picture this month is a photo I took of the pretty Crocus blooms in our yard... The Crocuses and Daffodils are the first signs of spring here in Tennessee. I am definitely ready for SPRING...

Our Own Swimming Pool

Welcome to MARCH, Friends!!!!  WELL---I've been telling my friends that we NEEDED rain....   Mother Nature heard me I guess... She sent a little too much to us yesterday...  As you probably know, we live on a hill.. Soooooooooo---all of the water above us flows down to us (and to the ones below us)....

We had so much rain at one time that we had a swimming pool in our back yard.   I have been jealous of my friend SANDRA --who lives in 80 degree sunny Florida and enjoys a gorgeous pool in her backyard.    WELL,  Sandra,  we NOW have our own pool... Wanna come up here and take a swim??????? ha ha

Here are some pictures for you of our flood.  All of these first bunch of pictures were taken from our back deck.  This shows all of the water coming down the hill on the golf course..  Below are more.

This is looking at the "Betsy and George Waterfall" in our backyard.... There are rocks back there ---and when we have heavy rains,  it does make a gorgeous cascade!!!!!  (Pretty neat to have our own waterfall, isn't it???)

This is another view from our deck --looking into the backyard.

And,  here's another one --from a different angle.

This is the lower side of the front yard. Don't think I am ready to sit on the bench today!!!!!! ha ha....  You can see the bare part of the telephone pole wires--which we try to cover up with our beautiful Clematis  in the Summer....  We inherited that telephone pole when we bought our home.. Guess it gives it character!!!!!  Ya think????? ha ha

This picture shows our front yard... Note all of the water coming down the ditch in the front...

Finally,  here another picture of our swimming pool.  Wanna come and take a dip????????

Seriously,  there were tornadoes and wind damage in several states due to this storm...  We were one of the lucky ones.. I'll take a little water in lieu of a tornado... Yipes!!!!

Hope you are safe and okay!!!!
Hugs,

Lovely "Betsy and George waterfall!"

I take it that none of the water comes inside, right? Quite a bit of water there--glad that's all you received!

I love your waterfall Betsy! Like you, I am thankful to just have water and no other damage. It was scary for about an hour yesterday afternoon. Hope you will have a good day.

Oh my goodness! I enjoy a good rain, but this is a lot of water. If we had that much here I would be checking the basement constantly for water. That seems to be one of the problems here, even though Morden is higher and most of the water runs off.I am happy to hear that all you had was rain instead of tornados.
Blessings,Ruth

Wow, you did have a waterfall. I hope you didn't have any damage.

...looks like you've also gotten your wish of a waterfall in your backyard!! :-) Boy...you really are waterlogged!! Stay dry!

Catherine said...

Oh my stars Betsy ~ you do indeed have a pool! Hopefully there will be no basement flooding. Now, if you could get some nice sunshine to clear some of that up!!!!

I hope you and George keep dry!

Oh my goodness! You got a lot of rain! I hope everything will dry off quickly for you.
Yes, I would take a little rain over tornadoes any day!
So glad you were safe. Have a good week. :)

I feel ya! We live at the bottom too. Love your personal waterfall.

Well I for one would love it. So beautiful where you live. No matter what season!

We had that rain yesterday too! I was so worried about the sum pump that I didn't get a chance to watch the outside.

I'm impressed with how "natural" looking your pool is. And, it finally had to happen--a George and Betsy waterfall. We, too, have a pool and ours is indoors--in the basement. The ground is frozen solid so as the snow melts it goes into the basement. And, in old houses (1921 for ours), that's what basements were/are for!!

I agree with your comment over at Ginny's in that I'd never consider purchasing a house without a fireplace!

Enjoy your personal water park!

Best,
Bonnie

That is a lot of water!!! We have ponds on our property in the spring that our dogs love to play in and then come in soaked!! It's -20 still today so that's not going to happen for a while yet!!

We actually have a real waterfall in the spring thaw, running over the very high rocks we have, they are about three stories high. I can see it but can't get to it to photograph, too much bush and to much rocky terrain. I might try with the zoom lens this spring. We can hear it from our house though and it sounds so peaceful..

Yikes! That's a lot of water. I guess looking on the bright side...you don't have to shovel it!
We had freezing rain yesterday that coated everything in a sheet of ice. Crazy weather!

The creek was on the rise here too. At least you don't have to shovel it. ;)

When it rains it pours. That is a lot of water - the waterfall is cool though - Just glad you and George are okay. Sure have been having crazy weather all over the country this year.

MadSnapper said...

oh my, not a pool I want, and i just said we need rain, hope it does not do to us what your need to rain did. thanks for the mention and glad you got water and not tornadoes, i saw the damage on TV over in the middle of your state. i am thinking all this water will pop the green and flowers as soon as the sun comes out. if you wear your bikini in your pool, get photos

Thank goodness you aren't the poor soul who is at the bottom of the hill.
Amazing to have white water and a water falls in your own yard.
So glad you missed the tornadoes though. We did also.
Hope it doesn't hurt any of George's lovely landscaping.
Dry up soon gal.

Great pictures Betsy. Loved the B&G waterfall. :) We also had our share of rain yesterday, but nothing I'd want to swim in!! Lots of red water.

Lovely waterfall Betsy! I think I'll pass on swimming though--it's a wee bit too cold for me!;) I am so glad we didn't have any damage either. The kids freaked out a little when they heard "TORNADO" warning, and every time they heard a funny noise they wanted to hide in the bathtub.

Your very own waterfall! How blessed you are.

Our valley (which is flood plain)is full of water once again also mostly due to thawing snow; however, I think we are supposed to get a couple of days of rain soon. Thank goodness our hill is very high.

We had a big thunderstorm two nights ago and then it froze.I think it is the announcement for spring.

Wow you do have some serious water there, never would of dreamed in the mountains you would have it like that, good flicks for sure, thanks for sharing, Barbara

Wow! That's a lot of water!! Hope you don't get washed away! I think you need to buy a powerful pump and devise a permanent 'George and Betsy" waterfall on your property!!!

Betsy,
My family in Ohio is experiencing floods--I remember them well growing up! We got a nice rain with our storms last night as well and you are right; we escaped relatively unharmed...scared the beejeebies out of Angel-Kitty; guess she's never heard thunderstorms before. Poor thing...
It's not the pool I expect youare most excited, but the waterfall!
Beautiful!

Shug said...

Well, I would certainly say that you got rain!..and lots of it!
The last time it rained like that here in our area, it flooded our neighbors home. A big mess!
so glad you were able to capture pictures of the waterfall....so pretty. I remember as a kid how we would beg mom to let us go out and play in rain like that! Usually didn't get to.

Great pictures and I hope the rain gave your area the drink it needed.
Have a good one!

Love the cascading Geo & Betsy falls! lol ... just look at the bright side of this ~ spring in there for you and in a matter of weeks you'll have a nice green lawn and tons of blooms and happy birds. I'm jealous! We're still in the frozen tundra for awhile.

Look like you are going to need to put in some new drainage. That is a LOT of rain and I think it is charming you have your own personal waterfall.

Ginny Hartzler said...

Some of these look like the wind was really blowing and it was still raining. All the rain here helped put out two of the fires. I'll be over as soon as I go bathing suit shopping!

LV said...

Sorry you got so much rain at once. Wish you could send some our way. We are having grass fires, homes and lives lost due to being so dry. My sister that lives in Hernando, Ms said they got the rain but no storms. With the spring weather on the way, we all better get prepared.

It's amazing how something so small as raindrops, when gathered together, can become rushing torrents. Great photos, Betsy, especially the G&B Falls!

That was some crazy weather yesterday. The tornado touched down within 1/4 mile of our property!

Big Dude said...

That's some serious water moving through you yard. We set on the crest of a little hill so don't see anything lioke that, but it sure rained hard. I think we caught about 1 1/4 inches in a couple of hours.

We had lots of rain yesterday too... today beautiful sunny skies!!

Brenda Kay Ledford said...

Oh, my, Betsy, you sure had a flash flood yesterday. Looks as though you got hard storms, too. We got some of those storms and hard rain yesterday, too. The wind was bad, too. I'm glad the storms are over and the sun's shining today.
I love your header photo.

Wow, you did get alot of rain!!!!

I love the new look....very springy(is that a word) ha
It's beautiful!

I've seen lots of creeks and streams in and around the Cumberland Plateau but never before heard of the George and Betsy Falls. That should be high on the agenda the next time we visit there. BTW We were at the Playhouse to see "Tuesday's with Morrie" during this time my computer has been down. Thought about you folks. Enjoyed this post and all the good pictures.

Like you, we got a lot of rain the other day, but in town, most of it runs off the property into the streets and storm sewers. I also dug around my property when I was young and put a drain all around the back of the house to the front. Before that we would have standing water.

Anonymous said...

When I saw the Betsy and George Waterfall, my initial reaction (before reading your description of the picture) was "Hey, there's a waterfall!" You sure got lots of water running through your yard from the rain. We received lots of rain, too. With all the snow on the ground, you can expect floods. Our yard was fine. I did see some swollen creeks on the way to work. I read where a couple roads were closed because of flooding.

Linda at To Behold The Beauty said...

Wow, Betsy! It's a good thing you live on a hill so the water can drain off instead of collecting in your yard or, worse yet, in your house. We had only 1.3 inches Sunday night, but they're predicting 2-3 inches later this week. We have a sunken living room. It has flooded twice in the 22 years we've lived here. Both times it was at this time of year, when the ground is still frozen; the snow is melting; and heavy rains come down. So we're watching the forecast with some trepidation.

wow, that is a lot of rain, glad you guys are safe:)

Rose said...

If we were kids, we would have been out playing in that as soon as the lightning stopped!

Connie said...

Be careful what you wish for, I guess? Glad you didn't have any tornadoes or damage, Betsy. There is a lot of flooding in nearby cities here because of the snow melting more than because of rain, but we are doing OK here.

Hi Betsy, Wow! You had much more water in your yard than I did. Glad you did not have much damage. Have a super great Wednesday tomorrow!

Diane said...

I hope you didn't get water in your house, that would make things difficult. It's nice that you have your own waterfall, Betsy, perfect!!

I love your new header and I love the way the colors of the crocus goes with the purple polka dot background, very cool. Diane

Mary said...

Wow...that's a lot of water! Seems only right that you two would have your own waterfall someday! LOL Glad that it didn't do any bad damage.

Wendy said...

Never mind the water, you've got grass!!! No snow!! And looks like some flowers peeking (or green leaves anyway). Spring is sprung!

Yes, a lot of water, but it will make its way down the hill or into the ground. Maybe you'll have ducks swimming in your back yard. LOL!
Hugs, thanks for the nice spring-like pics.

Joyful said...

You really did get a lot of rain, just like we are getting a lot of snow. but like you, I'll take it over tornadoes, cyclones and earthquakes. We are blessed.

The Retired One said...

Oh Gosh,Betsy! Hang in there...I hope it will all dry out for you soon!!!
We still have banks of snow here and although it was warmer here today (high 40's and sunny) it is supposed to be only single digits tonight and only teens tomorrow! I am longing for spring in the worst way!

carolina nana said...

That's a lot of water ,glad it didn't get close to your house.
We didn't get much rain, just wind and lightning.
Have a blessed tomorrow and a dry one !

Oh, my goodness, Betsy! That's a lot of water! But I do like the waterfall . . . very fitting for you and George! I'm glad the damaging winds stayed away.

Kirigalpoththa said...

That is torrential rain..more like the tropical rain we get here. Trees must be really happy :)

Karin said...

Just love your crocuses, but that torrent of rain is unbelievable! Great shots though for your memory album. I am totally impressed though that you were awarded your own personal waterfall! I'm sure getting all that rain is no fun and has done a lot of damage. Just stay hi and dry my friends!

Carletta said...

Hi Betsy,
Your own waterfall if only for a little while - that is such a sweet thought.
And yes, if it were warm enough I'd love walking around with my toes in all that water. I loved doing that when I was young.
The crocus in your header are beautiful!
Hope you're having some sunshine. We had some today and it was lovely!

mudderbear said...

Hi Betsy, It's a good thing you have a deck to stand on to watch your waterfall. It's all okay if you can just sit back and watch it go by. I kinda' like your waterfall but I certainly wouldn't want to walk out to it. Hope you stay reasonably dry and safe.

Well, you have been asking for rain! That's a lot of water in one day but it does make a really nice waterfall.

We've thought about a pool for our yard but not this kind. Glad to hear there were no severe storms near your place.

Lynda said...

How much topsoil do you lose when this happens? We were fortunate, too. A couple of tornadoes touched down - - - one was a block from my husband's work! It took part of the roof off the other business. Praise God we are all fine.

KathyA said...

Can just picture your doing the backstroke through that!

Valerie said...

I had to smile when i saw the water fall - it was my first thought -before I got to your words "your own waterfall!"

You know me and water - I dread the melting and the rain - with our town sewer issues. I called the engineers and they said they are looking into solving the problem (town sewage backing up into our basement because we are the lowest on the line)

Makes me shudder just thinking about it - Had a problem last week - but the cold snap we have now ended it pretty quick.

Oh well - they joys of living with indoor plumbing I guess. :)

Janie said...

Yes, better all the rain than a tornado!
And the backyard waterfall is kind of pretty. Hope no significant damage was done from all the water.

My last day at work was Feb 28th, and I had trouble getting out of Knoxville because of all the flooded streets. Then the next 4 days were gorgeous, with sunshine. Our driveway washed out (at home) but I had gone to Rockwood instead. Been by Ozone a couple of times, it just keeps building. Meant to go up there Monday afternoon with camera, but didn't make it.
