Our 2010 Irises---Part I

Remember how lucky we were this year to have so many tulips blooming?WELL--Our Irises really showed off also. We had EIGHTEEN different varieties in our yard this year. Most are gone now --so we are waiting now for the Lilies and Daylilies to bloom. I finally got my pictures together , so would like to show you one of each of our Iris varieties...Above is definitely one of my favorites since George ordered this one JUST for me. Its name is TENNESSEE VOL IRIS.... Now--isn't that special???? Below are more!!!

This beauty is named BLATANT. Don't you love the two colors?

This is FLOOR SHOW IRIS. I love the tan color on top.. That seems rare for an Iris.

This Iris is named CLARENCE. Isn't it pretty?

This Iris is named HELL'S FIRE. You should see the deep burgundy color on this one. The bottom petals are almost black depending upon the light.

Yellow Irises do well in our yard. They seem to bloom longer than some of the others. This one is named HONEY GLAZE.

This beauty is called AUTUMN BUGLER. It changes colors depending upon the sunlight. I love the color of this Iris.

This little Iris is named QUEEN DOROTHY.... I cannot understand why it isn't named QUEEN BETSY though. ha ha ha...

Finally, here's another beautiful Iris. I love its color also. Its name is CABLE CAR.

I will have nine more to share with you tomorrow. You'll have to choose your favorite ones. Most of our Irises are re-bloomers ---so hopefully, we'll see many of these again in the Fall!!!!

Hope you had a great weekend.
Hugs,

Awesome !
Oh, how I love to see the Iris in bloom, you have so many varieties it just takes my breath.
The first one is my favorite out of this review, those are my hometown rugby team colors, so of course I'm partial :)
Thank you for starting my day with a huge smile ....

...these are such beautiful, showy flowers. My fav so far is the first, the Tennessee variety! Do you have them scattered around your yard or in one place?

Love your garden pics!

I'm still around, it's just so much is going on with the girls, end of school stuff (both them and me) and a really serious bullying issue that I just don't have the energy or the want to blog a ton right now. But I'm here - don't give up on me!

WOW! Your yard is a showplace, Betsy!!! These are just gorgeous! I discovered irises just this year, but they don't do well down here, so they were taken off the list of plants for me. Your's are really nice, and BTW, the name "Queen Betsy" sounds much better!!!

These are so lovely. We don't have anything like this but we do have some wild iris which are delicate and pretty.

Wow! what beautiful colors. I really liked the colors in the one called Hell's Fire. You must have the perfect soil for raising flowers...or you and Goerge both have "green tumbs."

Blessing on your day!

They are beautiful. Wish they lasted longer. We have many iris here and I'm glad to know the names of them. As we have the same ones. I cannot claim gardening skills. The couple before us created these garden beds we have. She ordered many varieties from a catalog she had. Have a great week!

Is there nothing you two cannot do. These are some of the most beautiful irises I have ever seen. There is one or two, I am weird, that looks like an open mouth with their tongue poking out. It is hard to pick a favorite, but I love that Hell's Fire.

Favorites today, Queen Dorothy, Clarence, and Honey Glaze. Sorry, I am totally unable to pick (pun intended) just one!!! Can't wait for tomorrow's!

Oh I really like your Iris collection! You certainly are a good gardner - so's your hubby. I have a few lavender colored Iris in my yards but these were planted by a former owner. I may order some new ones and get them in next season. I used to tour the Roris Garden Iris Company in Sacramento, CA when I lived in that area of CA way back in the 1990's. I certainly enjoy Iris of all types.

Oh wow, Betsy your irises are all gorgeous. You have so many varieties I have never seen before. I love the first one and Hell's Fire but my favorite is the Honey Glaze.

My irises are in bloom right now and I have one white one blooming. It looks like an especially good year for flowers on both coasts.

This is a wonderful post, Betsy. I wish I knew all the names of our irises. Most of them were gifts from gardening friends who could no longer remember their names. Mine are loaded with buds and have just started to blossom. You're right--it's a good year for spring flowers!

Wow! What a show! I never knew there were so many varieties. Always learning here in blogland. The first one is a stunning flower and a super shot. I thought all Irises were blue/purple.

Oh my they are so very colorful! and an iris named after my town? Clarence? (that was also my paternal grandfather's name!) My favorite is the first one - my mom certainly would have loved that orange!!
