Some Alabama Waterfalls

Little River Falls- 45 feet
In March of 2013,  George and I spent a couple of days in Fort Payne, Alabama.  We were celebrating George's birthday by hiking and seeing waterfalls!!!!  I published some posts telling of our hiking adventures and of the birthday.  But--I wanted to show you all of the waterfalls we saw while in DeSoto State Park and the Little River Canyon National Preserve near Fort Payne.  Be sure to click on the photos for enlargements.

Little River Falls (from another angle on the other side of the river)

Lodge Falls (near the lodge at DeSoto State Park)

Indian Falls  (there's a bridge above the falls which you can walk across)

Azalea Cascades  (not too much water here --but pretty, seeing it flow down the mountain)

Lost Falls (a nice hike back in the woods to see this one)

Laurel Falls  (on the same hike where we saw Lost Falls-photo above)

And the 'biggie' at DeSoto State Park,  DeSoto Falls (too big for one photo)

The other part of DeSoto Falls - 104 feet

All of DeSoto Falls (from the other side of the canyon)

DeSoto Falls (close-up of the bottom---104 feet)
Well---that was a great little trip --and George had a nice birthday last March.  There are other waterfalls in the area (Noccalula Falls in Gadsden plus a couple more in the Little River Canyon area)---but we were happy to see what we saw this trip.

I'll close with one more photo of us taken the day we hiked to Lost and Laurel Falls.  This photo was taken at Lost Falls.
George and Betsy at Lost Falls
Well---this ole' woman has had to get bifocals now...  I've never worn anything but reading glasses --so this is really taking some getting used to.  Haven't tried to do any photos yet with the new glasses....  Should be interesting!!!  Have a great weekend and I'll see you on Monday! It has finally warmed up a little here!!!  But--winter is NOT over!!

Hugs,

Have visted DeSoto Falls and would love to see some of those others. March is such a good time to do a trip like that, I think. Temps are milder, but views still perfect. Have a great weekend!

I really like the image of 'em all of course, but the "LOST Falls" brings a feeling of solitude and quiet repose.

Beautiful pictures! My hope is that we will be able to travel through the mountains if we ever get to retire. Until then, I live vicariously through you and other bloggers. Thanks for sharing.

You did well not getting bifocals until now! I had mine in my forties. I remember when I first put them on and walked outside to the sidewalk. I almost fell off it - - thought I was going to be seasick. The doctor told me I would be used to them when I put them on the next morning cuz the body adjusts and he was right. The biggest inconvenience is having to move your head side-to-side a bit when reading. It's worth it though to have them so I can read your blogs easily and see all the gorgeous waterfalls you have visited.

That was a perfect way to celebrate George's birthday. Such a beautiful area. I really liked the shots of Little River Falls, Lost Falls, and the lower part of Desoto Falls. The water color there at Little Falls and Desoto Falls is so unusual.

great shots of the waterfalls. Your pictures are always so crisp and clear. Welcome to the glasses brigade. Are you getting progressives or actual lined bifocals? MB

Arkansas Patti said...

The white water pouring into that emerald pool was stunning. Almost Eden like.
Be careful with those bifocals. They can trip you up till you get used to them.

A beautiful collection of waterfalls.
So far I'm just with the reading glasses.

Ann said...

all of them are so pretty. You some some wonderful sites.
I got my first pair of glasses when I was 30 when I couldn't see to well at a distance. About 7 years ago I had to add readers. Haven't had my eyes checked in a long time and I think I need to again.

Oh, Betsy, these are really appealing...love the DeSoto falls. Glasses are a pain for me...I put them on top of my head while taking photos. But will have to put them on sometimes to see other things..that is why I don't just put them away.

I sure had fun (NOT)this evening trying to make it without my bifocals...you will get used to them and wonder what you did before them. Roger got them glued back together with epoxy...hope they last till Monday!

Thanks for the waterfalls. It's so dry and cold here. I needed that!
You'll get those glasses figured out!

Nellie said...

Beautiful waterfalls, Betsy!

I've worn bifocals for a number of years. Tried the progressive lens style, but adjusting was not happening, so I have the style with the line dividing the reading portion from the distance vision.

Hugs,
Nellie

Lovely waterfalls! Thanks for sharing.

You'll know you're used to your bifocals when you stop stepping into (otherwise invisible) holes in the floor. :)

David said...

Betsy, We love waterfalls too! Over the years we've taken hundreds of photos of them... Can't get enough! Love your photos! As for the bifocals...you'll get used to them fairly quickly. We both have them and we appreciate being able to see more clearly. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

Great waterfall photos, Betsy! I love the sound of waterfalls. I can almost hear them by looking at your pictures. :)

Absolutely fabulous photos, Betsy! Wow! I do love seeing waterfalls.

I'm struggling with my trifocals right now. I can't decide if the progressive or the one with lines is better. Sigh... One more thing to get used to as I age.

So many beautiful waterfalls in the one area. How nice for you. Yo'll get used to the glasses soon I prefer graduated lenses rather than bifocals though.

Those are some beautiful waterfalls Betsy! I have progressive lenses, have for years. I hate them. But what's a gal to do. *shrug*
