Lilies in our Yard--Part I

Many of our Lilies have started blooming since the weather has been so hot the past couple of weeks.  Usually they don't bloom here until the end of June--but this year is different.  Some of our Day Lilies are also starting to bloom --so I'll share more in a later post.

Today I will share some of the many varieties of LILIES we have in our yard.  Above is a favorite named LOLLYPOP.  Below are more.

Here's a bunch of LOLLIPOP LILIES.

JUANITA LILY

A group of JUANITA Lilies blooming in the Lamppost flowerbed;

REGALE LILY

TREFFER LILY

TINOS LILY

MONTENEGRO LILY

As you know,  we have lots of deer around.  Now that it's gotten so hot and dry here,  the deer come into the yards looking for their lunch.   We spray something entitled Liquid Fence in order to keep the deer away from our yard and flowers.  It works about 98% of the time ---although during times like this,  we have to spray more often.  The Liquid Fence doesn't harm the plants nor the deer --but they just don't like the taste.  SO--they stay away MOST of the time.

However,  this past week,  one lone deer enjoyed some of our flowers --including the gorgeous Montenegro Lilies (like the one pictured above).   I'm glad we at least got one picture before they were eaten!!!   Since that latest visit,  George has been spraying about every other night... So far--so good!!!

Hope you enjoyed seeing some of our Lilies.  Hope you also had a nice weekend.  We are still HOT HOT HOT.. BUT--we got a tiny bit of rain yesterday ---so thank God for what we got....We are so dry now--so that rain helped!

Hugs,

They are beautiful lilies and excellent photos of them. Those pesky deers are like our wallabies. Luckily they haven't been visiting lately because the rain has provided enough lush grass in the forrest for them. I hope you get some rain soon and a cool down.

Hi Betsy, Such pretty lilies. My favorite is Regale. I am hopeful we receive rain this week - it is terribly dry. Hope you have a great week.

Beautiful. It is interesting that your flowers are early.Over here everything is about two weeks later than usual.Of course we have had soooo much rain and a lot of cool weather.

Very nice Betsy. I think my favorite one (even though it's hard to pick a favorite) is the big red one in the last picture.

Beautiful pictures of the lilies! I'm glad that the liquid fence works (at least most of the time) to keep the deer away from the flowers. It would be a shame to spend all that time and money to have your beautiful flowers be eaten by the deer!

The Montenegro lily is the loveliest lily I've seen in a long time. I'm sorry the deer chose that one.
I don't have a concern with deer here---they'd get run over by a coal truck trying to get to my little patch of flowers! But I do at the lake and I've used the something similiar to liquid fence. It was designed for rabbits and other critters besides just deer. I presume liquid fence is also. Anyhow, it's a relief to have a protection barrier like that.
But George had best keep at it, because that deer will have spread the word!;>)

What a catch 22. Deer are so beautiful and I think are moveable flowers themselves but you have worked so hard on your yard. You may have to hire a guard when you take a trip.

I've never had much luck with lilies for some reason but your lilies are beautiful. I hear you about those deer, they're worst than my raccoon problem!

such a beautiful variety, but my favorite that took my breath was your photo of the white ones (regale). just so beautiful!

we are hot hot too and no rain in sight, a slight chance of sprinkles the next two days.
while looking at your beautiful photos, i was singing Lollipop, Lollipop, oooh lolli, lolli, lollipop. are you singing with me now? i got started on the flower and could not stop. had no idea there is a spray that keeps the deer away.

Those deer are nice but do have an appetite for what you don't want them to eat.I have a lot of lilies and of course a tiny one who runs all around my yard.

Beautiful photos of exquisite blooms, Betsy. Hope the deer stay away with George spraying the liquid. Interesting that you have a lily called the Treffer Lily. Now the word "treffer" in Afrikaans, means a "hit" as in music or film. Have a blessed day, dearest Betsy. (((Hugs))) Jo

Beautiful lilies. I got some photos of our neighbor's lilies at Center Hill Lake. We were up on a work vacation and still did not get it all done. Whew. Peace

It is hard to believe we are seeing your beautiful lillies already. Between your roses and lillies, your yard as ablaze with color. I enjoy seeing all the different varieties.

This definitely has been a different year, weatherwise. Up here along with all the spring rains, we have inherited lots of mesquitoes, which makes being outdoors not always so enjoyable. Thank goodness we have a screened in porch.

Hi Betsy, Beautiful lilies! I especially like the last one, but then I'm partial to anything red. The only lilies I have are day lilies and the Stella's.

It's really hot here too. And humid. Ugh. I don't wish for the rain, but I'd like to have some of that cooler temperature back. Looks like we are in for a hot, hot summer. Have a nice Monday!

Well, I always DID love lollipops!!! And this is no exception, that pretty pink is my absolute favorite!!! Hey, will that liquid stuff work for squirrels, skunks, and stray cats? I guess not? Only deer?

Your lilies are spectacular!! I hope the poor creatures get some water soon. Have you tried giving them water outside of your fence line?

Your lilies are magnificent! Regret your deer problem...I suppose 98% for you, 2% for the deer isn't bad!

Betsy and George, For some reason I am having difficulty responding to Betsy's email of this morning about the passing of George's beloved mom. My deepest sympathies on your loss George. Praise the Lord she and your father just celebrated 71 years of marriage. Awesome. Our hearts are holding you and George close during this time. Beautiful lilies. You must have such beautiful gardens, rose and now lilies. We do have to meet you both in our travels. Think you two found a little piece of paradise up there in TN. Good for you.
Big hugs,
Lynn and Terry

Boy oh boy!! Last week it was too much rain and cold. Now it's too hot and dry. It's warm here too..not hot yet, but I am complaining already. Isn't that awful!! Your flowers are so beautiful. You must work so hard. I feel bad for the deer...how can they resist such fare? But it sounds like there must be quite a lot of them. They'd better go someplace else for lunch.

I hate to say the word but I wish we had a tropical system come visit and bring nothing but rain for a days.

Beautiful lilies and I love the Lollipops.

your lilies are gorgeous. I only have day lilies in my yard but after seeing all of yours I really want to get a few different varieties

I like the Lollypop, too - - and the one the deer got. You and Farsideoffifty.blogspot.com could discuss the deer and flowers. She recognizes their appetite for them, too but doesn't appreciate them taking samples either.

Tracy said...

Hah, yeah, the deer certainly have gotten my lilies...little buggers, but hey, if I can help out in the least, right?
Your flowers are beautiful...I especially like the montenegro lilies; very vibrant colors.
I am thinking of you and George...take good care!
love and hugs,

I was wondering how you managed all those beautiful flowers with all those deer around!
Does it work on rabbits also ??? I'll have to get some if it does.
We are still bone dry here, the rain goes around us each day but I am thankful we've had no bad storms.
Have a blessed evening

Oh Betsy!! The Lillies are BEAUTIFUL!! I really love the lollipop lillies!

Do you just have the most beautiful flower arrangements in your home? I can only imagine how wonderful that would be to be able to place fresh flowers all over.... :)

Praying for all of you...

I love the big white lilies here which are all imported. They are big and sweet smelling always. The orchid flowers here are exported daily to Japan, Europe and many countries. The imported Lilies are much more expensive than our orchids which costs a bomb in overseas! How strange!

Your lilies are all beautiful. I'm always surprised by the amazing variety of plants in your yard.
