Welcome to JOYFUL REFLECTIONS. Also welcome to MARCH!!!! My header picture this month is a photo I took of the pretty Crocus blooms in our yard... The Crocuses and Daffodils are the first signs of spring here in Tennessee. I am definitely ready for SPRING...

My Sweet Little Birdies!!

I have put so much emphasis recently on my Woodpeckers and Bluebirds ---so today,  I'll show you some recent pictures of more of our little Backyard Birds.  Above is one of the little Dark-Eyed Juncos... We don't see these little guys during the hot summer --but they do come around during Winter. Below are more!

White-Breasted Nuthatch  (They love the peanuts I put out!!)

This beauty is one of our male American Cardinals.  (This one is for my Aussie friend, Colin, who really loves the Cardinals!)

This 'cutie' is a Carolina Chickadee.   I love these little guys --and they are just so sweet.

Our little Goldfinches are getting their beautiful spring yellow colors back,  just in time for mating season.

Another favorite year-round bird is the Tufted Titmouse...  Love these little guys also!!!

Finally,  here's a funny one for you!!!!  I laugh for some reason when I look at this picture... I think that male ROBIN is saying: "What are you laughing about, Lady?  Do you think I look FAT?"   ha ha ha

I have never had a couple of Robins (one male and one female) before, who come to the deck OFTEN (all during the day) and eat the suet --or whatever they can find on the deck.   Robins are usually ground-eaters ---so this is kinda strange to have them at the feeders so often... Hope they bring their babies --once they have some.

All of the birds pictured today are with us all year (except the Junco)...  I just don't know what I'd do without my Backyard Birds... Hope you enjoyed the pictures today.  AND I hope you enjoyed your weekend.  Did you see that huge Super Moon????? Wow!!!!

Hugs,

Good Morning Betsy, Beautiful photos of your backyard birds today. Mr. Robin is quite funny looking! Birds sure give us a lot of joy, don't they? Thanks for sharing such pretty photographs and have a great Monday.

Good morning, Betsy! I sat down with my chocolate creamer with coffee (ha!) to begin my daily early perusal of blogs wondering what awaited me.
To my delight, you posted your birds! I love the mountain and waterfull photos, but I miss having my birds, so I doubly enjoy yours. That cardinal is gorgeous! I loved when the cardinals came to our deck feeders.
The last photo is my favorite. He does look a bit indignant!
Hope you have a great day! I'm off to the wonderful world of teaching. :)

Very nice Betsy. It's been very active around our feeders. We've gone from almost none to many cardinals and I just love seeing a bush full of bright red.

Wonderful bird shots Betsy. Juncos are my favorite. Don't know about you but there is a lot of nesting going on here.
Bet it won't be long before you have some neat Blue Bird baby pics.

Beautiful shots of your backyard birds. What would we do without God's amazing nature around us? I simply love all the birds but the Robin is the best. Yes, even though they eat on the ground and scratch through leave mould, they also visit the bird feeders and baths in gardens. Blessings and hugs Jo

Our finches are getting so colorful too!

I did enjoy all your birds.I sometimes wonder what it would be like if we had no birds around.i know that I would feel like a very important part of my life was missing. The birds bring so much enjoyment and all for a little food, that we put out.

Love all those birdies too! We have the junco's all winter - it has been fun to watch - and now that the robins are here - the backyard is getting busier! I had a flock of (unwelcome) Grackles yesterday. Well they are God's creatures too - and they do have pretty colors! Guess I just don't like the pack mentality - in anything!
Have a great day Betsy!

Good morning! Cute little birds you have in your yard. Was noticing just this week that there aren't many little birds around here this year. I think it has to do with the pair of hawks that are swooping our neighborhood.

You have an amazing array of birds in your yard!

Betsy, I always love it when you put up bird pictures. I finally broke down and put up a bird feeder and a suet feeder. So far I have seen house finches, chickadees, wrens, and cardinals at the feeder. Did see 2 blue jays the other day - sure hope they come back.

When we pulled in the driveway yesterday, there was a sweet bird--orangish red--that was in a bush and flew away. It was shaped like a robin. I told my husband that if Betsy were here she'd know the name!! We've also seen a few robins. Welcome back spring!

Best,
Bonnie

Lovely little critters, I have been bringing my feeders closer towhere I sit to be able and see them better.

Okay...now you have to start giving them names!

You are lucky to have such a variety of pretty birds to keep you company all year. I am with Colin, the cardinals are the best.

the carolina chickadee was my favorite until I reached that chubby little robin. soooo cute and adorable. our Cardinals are gone, we don't know what happened, none last year, and we had several, none so far this year.

You have so many pretty birds Betsy! Thank you for sharing them!

I love seeing a Robin ~ they truly seem like 'spring' to me. Sadly... there isn't a one in site yet.... :(

Happy Monday Betsy!

You have such a variety of birds in your part of the country! I love visiting your blog and seeing your pretty birdie pictures. I've been having a few cardinals visit everyday and so glad to have them back. I think our area lost a lot of them after Hurricane Ike in 2008.

Robins are starting to show up in Ohio. I'm going hunting for a waterfall today LOL

Happy Monday, Betsy!! I love all your backyard birds.. but esp. that last one. Sorry.. I laughed too. Must be the Orange color making the poor guy look as wide as tall. Yep, it has to be the bright color. Ha.. Cute 'little' guy!!! :-)

Have a beautiful week, Betsy!!!

You've got some wonderful images here, Betsy. I'm in agreement with your Aussie friend about cardinals. They're not only pretty, but they have such a beautiful repertoire of songs. The goldfinch is another favorite of mine. Good job.

Betsy
Had a wonderful weekend with our grand weather we were blessed with. We have the same little feathered friends as you do and this weekend at the TSC I found some NO MELT suet peanut butter flavor and hung it out to try. When the holly berries get red on our trees, we have a contest between the robins and the cedar wax wings to see who eats the berries first. Peace

Great photos of the backyard birds. You are really helping me to learn to identify our local birds. Thanks! ☺

Love your backyard beauties - what a wonderful variety! I laughed at the male robin, "Lady, does this outfit make me look fat?"
Have a great day!

Your photos of our little feathered friends are great, Betsy. They sure are fun to watch and I am constantly at the window watching! I will have to look for your post on the bluebirds. They are my favorites and I must have missed that one. The goldfinches haven't gotten much color back here, but it won't be long. Have a great Monday! Hugs, Cheryl

Of course I LOVE the birds, and today my favorite is the nuthatch! I just got a double shepherds crook and am going to hang suet on one side and a bird feeder on the other. Any suggestions as to the feeder type? The choices are mind boggling. One nice man in Lowes who feeds lot of birds told us not to get the kind with a tray underneath, it scatters the seed all over the ground. Then there are the tall skinny cylinders, I kind of like those...I can't get most of the squirrel proof ones, as the birds go inside a little cage and I wouldn't be able to get good pictures. I'm going to the wild bird store as soon as I get the chance, but it it over a half hour away.

Had to laugh at your Robin. He reminded me of the show Different Strokes and the saying"What you talking about Willis" LOL Thanks for the Billy Bob name as that is what we named him. He is one stubborn, get into everything little goat. At 2 days old he was trying to hump his sister!! If ever a goat was a redneck its Billy Bob! Have a blessed day

I don't know Betsy, that last one made me want to laugh, too, before I read your comments on it. But all are great shots.

That robin picture is a funny one, Betsy! HA! I enjoyed seeing your bird pictures. They are fun to watch. I did see the supermoon too. It was so pretty! :-)

I smiled as soon as I looked at the Robin picture, he is indeed fat, and short little legs !
I'm sure your backyard is just a flurry of activity, back and forth to the feeders, and I've noticed the Bluebirds are nesting or at least preparing their nests, are yours ?
The Tufted Titmouse is one of the sweetest little birds, I love 'em all ;)
Great pictures Betsy, I miss your posts over the weekends ;(
Hugs,

I love bird watching! There is something so calming about seeing them so content in their busy little worlds. Love that they are singing up a storm, with spring in the air. Our trees are full of music.

Hi Betsy, Yes, I even took pictures of the moon three days in a row culminating with the Super Moon on Sat. I love the pictures of your bird visitors! Have a great evening tonight and an excellent day tomorrow! Enjoy the wonderful warm weather, too.

Hi Betsy!

I have just got internet back after it being out since last Thursday!! It's like being without my right arm!!

We have had another snowstorm today so I hope our robins don't come back yet because they will starve for sure. We have some red wing black birds that have appeared today and we still have all out winter birds too so it's getting really busy at our feeders!!

Betsy,
That male robin is actually asking you your opinion on his chosen attire...I just know he is!
They are all so beautiful and as you tell me the names I am thinking back wondering if I've had any of those lovelies at my feeder...not quite certain on a couple of them but a few, yes!!!
I read the news about B. Pearl; too bad. It's almost as if they were 'looking' for a reason to get him out!

Carolina women tonight!

I do love your bird photos and I hope that I can identify a few more...I have a lot to learn..

You were right about the Gov. ...he and his wife were so nice...our port would have not been funded if our Rep. Sanderson hadn't brought it to his attention...the Dems had somehow messed up the paperwork and it was just setting around somewhere...I'm sure they intended for it to fail so they could blame the imcumbents....
Isn't the weather just beautiful???
I'm loving the sunshine...
Have a beautiful week!!!

I love your bird photos. We are covered up with Red Cardinals and Robins. I love the Carolina Chickedee. I have seen a few of these in my bird feeders. Lovely post!

Hello Betsy, first i am always amazed at the number of visitors in your posts. Your friends are wonderful, and these birds as well for giving you year-round company. We have many birds too but they are far and up and my lenses cannot take them nicely. I should have a longer one. BTW, i've just been to a waterfalls and i always remember you while there. It was an hour domestic flight from Manila plus an hour of boat, then a few km by jeepney. We have to navigate 135 steps to reach it and back, now i still have sore leg muscles. The island of Siquijor, Philippines is small and we circled the island with lots of photos for 1.5 days. I hope to post some photos later.

We love the cardinals! I was watching a male cardinal chase off two other cardinals today, very funny! Last year I watched as a mommy and daddy cardinal watched as the baby cardinal took flying lessons!

LV said...

The cardinal and robin are my favorite of all these. You do an excellent job getting such good shots. I started out watching for the moon, but I understand it got even larger after I had hit the sack. I only sleep every other night. That was my night to sleep. I do not know why, but I could be a night person real easy. I get more energy late than the mornings.

Your bird pictures are the best! So how many total kinds of birds do you see year round in your yard? Have you ever counted them? I always thought we had just a few around here but might be surprised if I put out food and took pictures.

I just found your blog and now I'm browsing through it. What a delight! I love your yard birds. They remind me of the ones we had when I was a child in Oklahoma. The robin picture is my favorite (along with its funny caption). We didn't have a single American Robin this winter but I see them at my son's in Missouri. Here in south TX we have Clay-colored Robins which are not nearly so colorful but have a subtle kind of beauty.
