Welcome to JOYFUL REFLECTIONS. Also welcome to MARCH!!!! My header picture this month is a photo I took of the pretty Crocus blooms in our yard... The Crocuses and Daffodils are the first signs of spring here in Tennessee. I am definitely ready for SPRING...

Sunday Ride to Lilly Bluff Overlook

If you missed Part I of our little hike to the Lilly Bluff Overlook on July 25, please click
HERE. Even though it was hot, I enjoyed my first hike in a long time. Here are more pictures from that fun day. Above is a close-up of the swimming area in Clear Creek, taken from the overlook. You can see people swimming down there. Below are more pictures from that day!

Oh My!!!!! Look at the SNOW on the top of the mountain!!!! HA HA HA--in my dreams!!!!! (It was only about 90 degrees that day!) When we were leaving the overlook, I noticed this interesting lichen (or moss) on the nearby rocks. Interesting, isn't it???

As we hiked back to the car, I loved seeing the sun's rays coming through the trees.

When we left Lilly Bluff, we decided to take a country road home, one which we had never been on before... Can I tell you how much fun it is to just get in the car and RIDE--not knowing where you are going???? There's so much to see. Look what we saw!!!! We saw gorgeous farmlands ---with a view of the Cumberland Mountains (near Frozen Head State Park) in the distance.

There are so many things to see in the country. Don't you just love this old fence?

Guess what else I saw in the country???? This is Potter's Chapel!!! I love little country churches.

Finally, when we take a drive in the country, I also usually find a home which I would love to have.... See that home in the distance????? I'll add that to my 'wish' list!!!!! ha

Hope you enjoyed our Sunday afternoon drive!!!!

Have a great Tuesday.
Hugs,

Beautiful! This reminds me of a show my mom and I loved called "Christy" based on the book by the same name. Tennessee is a gorgeous state, and we love visiting it when we wander south and east!

There is lots of beautiful scenery to be enjoyed in Tennessee. Glad to here you're back to hiking some.

The rocks on our property are covered in the same lichen. Very pretty to look at but if you try to walk on it you can slip very easily!! Especially if it's been raining!!

Lovely scenery again. I hope your knee is still improving!!

You are certainly enjoying the nice hot weather. I have seen that plant in Canada a lot. It is a lovely sage color.

When I was young, that is what families did in lieu of sitting in front of the TV. Once a week, we all piled in the car and went somewhere new.
Mom was the one always looking for a dream house.

That house on the hill must have a nice view. I haven't traveled anywhere on an interstate highway for years. I love the backroads.

Looks like a great country ride! I love to do that.

Funny - last night we went to the AAA baseball game in downtown Buffalo - and I let my husband drive - I don't like downtown traffic - well -as we left (around 10pm) it was very dark and we could only leave the parking garage one way. My H kept going and going - and I was like - we aren't going to make it to the expressway going this way - so I told him to turn down a side street.

Soooooo scary - pitch dark - obviously a drug/hooker neighborhood - by the folks we saw huddled and strutting around the dilapidated homes.

I would take getting lost on a country road (but you weren't lost right?) any day over in the inner city!

I did get us back to the expressway. Thankfully I remembered all of those Sunday drives in the city with my dad - and I have a good sense of direction, but we were a bit nervous for a little bit!!

Love that old church building!

Just driving without knowing where you are going has always been one of my most favorite things to do. Vol Fan and I took a wonderful vacation doing just that. No destination - just turning where and when the mood struck! It was wonderful!!

How's the knee?

Such a lovely drive, we are just so lucky to be surrounded by all this Tennessee lushness..
What a wonderful old church, I can only imagine the generations who have passed through those doors, and the split-rail fence is one of my favorite type of fences.
I love your new blog colors and design, as of yet I've not jumped in, to the new design features, but that's typically me...stay with the old ;)

Love your snowy lichen :-) LOL! The little church and the fence are perfect. I love rail fences.

I did enjoy it, Betsy. Very interesting mosses or lichen, too. The little chapel is very lovely, I'm going to post a chapel I saw in Alaska, you'll like that one. Have a good afternoon, Diane

Betsy, Thank you for sharing your outings with us. I love your sense of adventure. I, too, like to find a road I've never traveled before and follow it just to see where it goes.

Betsy, your blog is like a beautiful travel guide. Over the mountains, through the woods with visits to every waterfall in Tennessee and beyond.
Its always a thrill to visit you;)

Deer moss? I think.
Florists like that stuff...I sold a bag of it once in Green Hills :)
YES I always choose myself a home...and do love to drive around with no agenda but I DO NOT want to be the passenger...that would drive me crazy! Bad news for my passengers is that I drive on fumes :)

There is so much road construction up our way. The road construction is causing roads to be closed and detours posted. I have loved riding the detours. Most times they are roads that we have not traveled. I've been seeing new things. I enjoyed your Sunday drive. When we are riding, I notice churches too. I wish I could photograph them all!

The best places to see are always off the beaten paths. Those old country back roads are my favorites.
That is some truly beautiful country in your photos.
Thanks for the info on the roses. I do have a cold frame green house I think I am going to try keeping all my potted plants in there this winter.
Blessings to you.

Loving that look down!
Hubs and I like going for drives and taking roads and just exploring wherever it takes us. With our GPS we don't worry too much about getting lost on country roads anymore. :)
I have never seen that much lichen in one place before - unique. It does look like snow and then I thought it was blossoms.

I can't think of many things that are better than a drive through the country, especially in your area. The old fence and church remind me of GA, I don't see a lot of either around here.

Love the house, the view must be awesome.

Janie said...

I like that house on a hill, too. What a view it must have.
Glad you were able to get out to take a hike and a drive in the country. Looks like a great time.
