Welcome to JOYFUL REFLECTIONS. Also welcome to MARCH!!!! My header picture this month is a photo I took of the pretty Crocus blooms in our yard... The Crocuses and Daffodils are the first signs of spring here in Tennessee. I am definitely ready for SPRING...

More from Charleston

Here is another set of pictures from our visit to Charleston. If you missed either of the other two posts, you can look at my sidebar on the right and scroll down to LABELS. Click on CHARLESTON. Above is a picture of the church which George and I attended while there, St. Michael's Episcopal Church. That church has a fabulous set of bells (men pull the ropes), and it was great standing outside and listening to the church bells chime --as the music bounced off of all of the surrounding buildings. AWESOME!!!!!

I showed a picture two days ago of the "Two Meeting Street Inn" (a hotel now) on the Battery. Here is one of the Tiffany windows in this inn... Gorgeous, isn't it?

Many of the beautiful homes in and around Charleston have beautifully manicured gardens like this.

We walked on brick streets and cobblestone streets. AND --we visited Catfish Row... Remember "Porgy and Bess"???? Catfish Row is where "Porgy and Bess" took place.

Since most of the homes in the historic area around Charleston are million dollar homes, you can only imagine all of the fancy and very expensive cars we saw in the driveways!!!!

Fancy iron gates were abundant around the Battery area of Charleston. I could do an entire post showing all of the beautiful gates and fences and balconies.

This is the "City Market"---where everything in the world (almost) is sold . These are some of the Sweet-grass baskets made in the area.

And I saved the best for last!!!!! Many of you have asked if we saw the famous Rainbow Row in Charleston... The answer is YES.... For those of you who haven't heard of Rainbow Row, it is a row of houses (mid-1700 homes) which are now all different colors. In my picture, you can only see about four of them--but there are quite a few more along this street, all in different pastel colors. THIS is a must see for anyone visiting Charleston.

Hope you have enjoyed my three posts from Charleston.

Have a blessed Palm Sunday!!!!! Hosanna!

Hugs,

I have enjoyed them very much as it is the only way I will experience the beauty of Charleston. It is like out of a picture book or calendar. I often wonder what people do that own such homes. Thanks for the tour.

Betsy, this is a beautiful photo journal of your trip to Charleston. You would make a great tour guide.

Have a blessed Palm Sunday.

Allison bought (actually we bought for Allison) one of the baskets. They are expensive. We bought at Boone Plantation for $25 but saw the same basket other places for $65-$70. We missed Rainbow Row...Patti must not have caught that or she thought we didn't have enough time.

I suppose there really is a "class system" in this country. Rich, Middle and Poor.

As a Middle Class family, we used to go visit the places where the rich class lived, like you did in this post. Our favorite was Savannah, Georgia. I have never heard of the rich class coming to see where I live. I wonder why?

The knot garden is lovely and somebody puts a lot of time into that. Catfish Row reminds me of so many places I have been and I bet the food is excellent.

Charleston is such a lovely, old town. I so want to see it one of these days.

Lovely pics!

The church is my favorite. So beautiful. Architects that designed buildings like that were totally gifted. Or inspired. Charleston and Savannah are two towns I'd really love to see. Been in both states but never got to those places.

Abe has an interesting point. Wonder if the rich ever take a tour of our neighborhoods just so they could know how good they have it. Personally wouldn't trade. Too much upkeep. Nice to visit though.
I wonder if the owners of the Rainbow Row houses get to pick their own color. I love the look.

I am sad to see these posts come to an end! Did you take many more pictures? I would love a post with just the gates, one with just the gardens, one with the churches, one with the cars, etc. Really! Because this is so enjoyable. I adore the stained glass window with it's blue and green. And the cute little yellow car, I also like the stonework it's sitting on! It really makes me smile! The garden is amazing, and what is that in the church tower? Is it the way the bell is hanging? Upon clicking, I still couldn't tell.

What beauty in Charleston. Loved the window, so very beautiful. As for the houses, seems to be many different sizes and shapes as well as the color. Another place I would love to visit.

Loooks like you had a wonderful trip - I want to go back and take the garden tour they have in spring and fall! You mentioned you had been to the Grove Park Inn from my sky photo - I work there in an art gallery in the hotel. It is a fun place to be.

Happy Sunday Betsy, Enjoyed your Charleston pics. I wish they would have somehow named the old market place something to do with the history it has of actually being an old slave market to retain its historical value.
Have a blessed evening

That church steeple is gorgeous!
So much to see in such an historic city.
I'd like living in one of those pastel houses and driving that car for just a day - a day. :)
The market I do remember. I bought a heart shaped basket and one for my neighbor. When we came out of the market a group of Hari Krishna's were chanting up and down the streets. Me and my kids who were little were speechless..
Lovely post Betsy! You and George share such wonderful things with us.

More beautiful photos Betsy, I have really enjoyed the tour. On my one visit to the city I missed a lot of places including Rainbow Row. I can see all of that now in your photos.

Before I forget again, I love your blog's new look. The header and background are fabulous.
