Welcome to JOYFUL REFLECTIONS. Also welcome to MARCH!!!! My header picture this month is a photo I took of the pretty Crocus blooms in our yard... The Crocuses and Daffodils are the first signs of spring here in Tennessee. I am definitely ready for SPRING...

Rain, Rain---Go Away

Yesterday, George and I drove to Hendersonville (north of Nashville) to check on George's elderly parents. We knew that 'storms' were coming ---but didn't realize at the time just how BAD they were going to be. We ran through a little rain heading to Hendersonville ---but when we got there, the wind was picking up and the temperature had risen to 81 degrees. We KNEW that something was brewing!!!!

We spent the morning working on Mom and Dad's financial work and going through the mail. They made their grocery list --so we headed out for lunch. At that time (around noon), it was still breezy but no rain. We had lunch and got all of their errands run --and got back to their house BEFORE the rains began.

We finished all of the other things in order to help the folks ---and headed home about 3 p.m. There were tornado warnings and even tornado touchdowns in several areas of Tennessee. The skies were black-black-black... Once we got on I-40 heading east--- the rains began to pick up. Once we got near Cookeville, the heavy rains came. We kept on plugging --and George drove us through some of the hardest rain we have been in in a VERY long time. The interstate traffic was heavy ---and we all just prayed and crept along. We saw at least THREE cars which had hydroplaned and lost control of their cars. BUT--there were no accidents (other than those three), praise God.

We finally made it to Crossville, picked up my cousin who was waiting for us, and went to dinner. The rains finally headed east ---and left our area. We made it home safe and sound, only to find no damage here, other than some rain. BUT--we are hoping that there hasn't been too much damage in Tennessee due to the storms yesterday. We heard on TV that Kentucky suffered damage.

AND---we hope that there is no rain today or Sunday ---so that we can show my cousins (and their families) all around our area. I had to laugh when I picked one of the cousins up last night in the pouring rain---and said, "Welcome to Tennessee"...

The good news is that Mom and Dad Adams are still doing GREAT. They are two amazing people!!!

Hope you have a great weekend and don't have storms and tornadoes in your area.

Hugs,

All of the pictures came from the internet in today's post.

wow Betsy! I'm happy that you and George are safe! Glad George's parents are doing fine also. It's so wonderful of you two to check in on them. Did you drive through that tornado (pic)??? I hope not. I know my elderly father went out in the bad weather yesterday in Clanton, and had to creep along in his little car. He heard the sirens going off in town. He also said it was some of the worst rain he had driven through. HEAVY downpours, and low visibility. Praying for all of us to be able to see the sun again soon! Love you!

That looks and sounds like very nasty weather. I'm just glad the two of you got home safely. It's also good to hear George's parents are doing well.

No rain here this weekend but a cold front is moving through and our night time temps are dropping into the low twenties, brr!

Hugs,
Judy

Betsy: That had to add to the mountain drive with all the driving. Glad the parents were fine.

Ouch, you all got the storms that hit here on thursday. Tons and tons of rain. We were lucky and no severe weather just heavy rain for several hours.

Glad you made it through all the downpours safely. We had a bit but nothing like you experienced. A lot of
wind caused the leaves to rain down. There is a lot of clean up to do now

Aren't you two nice to brave such awful weather to check on George's parents.
Two glads: one you made it safely, two that his parents are doing so well.
Have a good visit with your family and hope the weather calms down.
Be safe.

We got a taste of it too, but most of the really severe storms stayed to our north....whew. The lightning was impressive indeed. Glad you all made it home safe and sound Betsy. :c)

So glad that you made it home safe and sound. I've been through a few hurricanes but the thought of a tornado is really scary to me!
George's parents are really amazing.
Enjoy your weekend and thank you for all your kind comments.

Betsy, glad you and George made it safely home. I HATE driving in the rain on the interstate!!
We had a pretty scary time here too! It started raining and then came fierce lightning and 60 mile an hour winds! I'm not one to be afraid of bad weather but I got quite uneasy during that! Have a better rest of the weekend! xoxo

Betsy - I was stressed out reading about your drive through the rain! So glad you and George made it home okay! You two be careful! :-)
It rained steadily here all day yesterday and this morning it's finally stopped. Time to walk the dog!

Those storms sure were rolling yesterday. Our tornado siren sounded twice. But only a short power outage here. Glad you made it home safe!!

That was some journey, wasn't it. I heard about the tornadoes this morning and thought of you. My husband says that's ahead of this awful winter cold we're having now.

Stay dry for Heaven's sake...and stay out of those tornadoes! ;-) Hope the weather clears soon.

I found myself holding my breath all the way through your post, as if I was there too! Whew...we might have a very very rare occurance of a tornado touching down here but usually no damage. We are more likely to have hurricanes affect us here. So glad you made it to and fro safely and that George's parents are well. Enjoy your visit with your cousins and I hope you have nice sunny days!

Sounds like a pretty tense day of driving. I hope George got a good shoulder rub when he got home!!

I was wondering if you were that close to the tornado that you got a picture .... so was glad to hear the picture was from the internet.

Glad Mom and Pop were well.

Wow, when the wipers can't keep up with the rain it's horrible driving. Thanks God you're home safe and sound. We've got minus temp today and still had snow flurries last night. Love to be safe at home around the fireplace when the weather is horrid outside. Have a refreshing week-end and all the best.

I love a good rain storm, minus damaging tornados and ONLY when I am home. Driving in it is scary.
I am glad you were able to visit with the folks and help them out. They are blessed to have you both!!!
Enjoy your visit with your family.

Hello Betsy,

Our storms didn't begin until later last night and what a lightning show we watched! It's really something to watch the storms cross over the mountains know they are headed straight for us. I always check weather.com for updates and there were 33 counties under a Tornado watch over TN, NC,SC,VA...

I'm glad you got there and back safely but I do know how scary it is to be on an interstate with blinding rain..all you can do is pray..that nobody puts on their brakes to hard, no one switches lanes...

Thanks for stopping by for a visit. Did you eat some of my virtual cupcakes?! hehe

Hugs, Steph

Betsy,

It was fun meeting you and George last night. Hope I didn't frighten you too much. And if you are looking for the sun today, you may have to settle for "mostly cloudy". Enjoy the family.....

Betsy, I am so glad you & George got home fine. Happy to hear his parents are getting along fine also.
That is a fantastic pic you took of the tornado. I hope you all didn't have to drive anywhere near it.
I don't recall us having such bad weather when I was a child. We never heard of tornadoes.
