Log House in Cherokee, NC

On our trip to Cherokee, NC on Thursday, the four of us friends stopped to see an old log house/farm. Here is some information from the Davis House:

"The Mountain Farm Museum is a unique collection of farm buildings assembled from locations throughout the park. Visitors can explore a log farmhouse, barn, apple house, springhouse, and a working blacksmith shop to get a sense of how families may have lived 100 years ago. Most of the structures were built in the late 19th century and were moved here in the 1950s. The Davis House offers a rare chance to view a log house built from chestnut wood before the chestnut blight decimated the American Chestnut in our forests during the 1930s and early 1940s. The museum is adjacent to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center."

Here are some pictures taken when we visited that area. Above is the Davis House. Below are more!!!!

This is a picture of the sign---showing what the old Davis House looked like many years ago (in the lower left corner).

This is the creek beside our trail leading to the Davis House.

The men were making brooms on the porch of the Davis House.

This little guy is a Mexican Eagle... He was visiting the Davis House for a demonstration. The 'local' crows were screaming from above!!!!

I love this picture with the old fence --and the big meadow in the background. We were looking for elk ---but they didn't want to come out for a visit while we were there.

Here's the 'backyard' of the Davis House..

Here's another picture I love... See the old fence ---and that barn??? Wow!!!!

Here's a very interesting tree along the creek. Anyone know what it is????

Finally, here is a picture of the meadow next to the Davis House. IF we had have been there early in the morning or at dusk, we may have seen some elk.

Hope you are having a great week. I will catch up with your blogs next week.
Hugs,

Good evening Ma'am Betsy!

Is your Davis House listed in the Heritage?

Very interesting. I like antics that are preserved in the modern times. Gives us an insight how humans lived in every era they belong.

I can equate your log house as the counterpart of our Nipa House back home.

Lovely photos as ever. You have so much to educate us.

Thank you for taking us along on your trip. Very unique barn. I don't think I have seen one like that before.

Loved that creek and the views. Wouldn't mind sitting in that tree to meditate.
That Caracara is a handsome bird but is basically a well dressed buzzard. We have them all over in Florida and they are usually right in with the not so well dressed buzzards trying to pull road kill out of the pavement.
Keep the pictures coming and your good times rolling.

I love Mountain Farm Betsy. Love the Apple House there! We saw our first Elk outside of Cataloochee, there a couple of years ago! :)

It seems like nothing can stop you and George. It is hard to catch up, you two are always on the go.

I love the Carolinas, to me they are the prettiest of America the Beautiful.

And I love the picture with the old fence too and the tree is somethingelse. I wonder who have sat in its arm.

So many cool things you saw, love the men making brooms. Now, if we can just get them to use them!!! But what really made me smile is wondering what the crows were thinking about the exotic intruder!

Gorgeous views from North Carolina.
AND the sun is shining. Not here!! I love the old Davis place. What a life our forefathers and mothers had. I used to yearn for that but I think I am too spoiled now. MB

Fantastic pics of one of the places I dearly love in the mtns. I've been there many times. I've seen that creek out of it's banks. That is where I learned how to fry cabbage.
Many a child has sat in the cradle of that tree.
I'm so glad you got to see this wonderful place.

Awesome photos Betsy. I really like that fence also. I have never seen an eagle like that. He is pretty cool looking.

I remember Davis House, I have been there several times as a child and adult. The eagle is really cool, I'll bet the local crows were very upset by his presence.

Beautiful photos are always Betsy, I really enjoyed the tour.
