On the Calabash Waterfront

While on vacation in Ocean Isle, NC, we enjoyed eating the fresh seafood at some of the local restaurants. One of these is named Dockside Seafood House. Dockside is located on the Calabash Waterfront. Not only did we enjoy their seafood, but we also enjoyed walking around the area, including the docks where the shrimp boats and other fishing boats are located. Here are some pictures of this area.

Dockside Seafood House-- from a distance

Here's one of the shrimp boats along the dock. Can you just imagine how FRESH that seafood at Dockside Seafood House was??????? We had a platter which contained shrimp, oysters, scallops, crab-cake, and white fish. YUM!!!

While we were walking on the dock, a deep-sea fishing boat came ashore ... There were a group of young men (about college age) who had been fishing. And--look at their catch!!!! Wooooooo... They caught 22 of these large fish. (Tom, what kind of fish are these???)

This is one of those 22 fish. I captured the picture as one of the young men held his fish up... Big fish, aren't they?????? Want some dinner?????

Hope you all are having a great weekend. I have been very busy (Hendersonville on Friday and company yesterday)... We've also had some wicked storms. I didn't get a Bluebird picture yesterday since it rained and rained and rained late in the afternoon. I hope to get a picture tomorrow.

Hugs,

I love seafood. Probably every coastal town has Dockside restaurant,.. I've seen that name in other places, too. Your platter sounds absolutely yummy! Nice shot of the shrimper.

I have not been to Calabash in a number of years. Thanks for sharing the photos, I'm sure it has changed quite a bit since I was there! That area used to be one of the best places to get seafood in NC,

Love the Dockside as well. There are so many wonderful places for seafood all along there. One of the best parts of being at the beach.

That's a dolphin fish. Restaurants call them Mahi Mahi so people won't mistake their dinner for the playful, graceful dolphins of "Flipper" fame. Think we'll have seafood for dinner!

Hi, Betsy. I've enjoyed all your pictures of your beach trip--especially the full moon over the ocean. Lovely! I grew up just an hour's drive from the southern North Carolina coast, so we spent a lot of time at the beach when I was young. I developed a taste for fresh seafood then--there's nothing like it, especially enjoyed where you can see the waters it came from! Love your baby bluebird pictures, too. Be careful, though--I got divebombed by Mama and Papa Bluebird when the babies were fledging! It was actually quite intimidating.

Great pictures Betsy - there's nothing better than off the boat seafood!

Betsy, I'm sure the seafood was yummy. It really tastes good near the water. Ours is all shipped in and I can do without it.

And I'm allergic to shrimp!!! But I love a lot of other types of fish, scallops, lobster. Yum - you made my mouth water.

We could use some rain around here. They had a fire ban where our daughter lives.

The seafood platter sounds wonderful Betsy. Wish I had some.

Our baby bluebirds have left the nest now. We have already had a new couple checking out the place.

Super pictures. I love little fishing town and there sure are a bunch out this way. Most of the towns out here started out as fishing as the main work. And where I live it was fishing , logging and farming.

I couldn't even get on my computer today--It is 7:45 Pm and finally!!! MB

Hopefully the weather will be much more better in the upcoming days. I hope I can show you a photo of the fisherman candies, Betsy. I am currently out of them ;p. Have a wonderful week. Hugs from Indonesia :)

Betsy: Definently would have know the Dolphin had I checked. They are not Flipper and are a fish not a mammal. You should look at a photo of one when they are first caught. They are beautiful before they fade. They are good eating.

What an adventure.
You know, one of the best things about going to these docks, the seafood is a lot cheaper and fresher.
