Oh Those Gorgeous Daylilies

Orange Vols Daylily
This has been our very best year for DAYLILIES....  We have 30 different varieties in our yard --and many of them are re-bloomers...  (We won't buy any anymore which are not re-bloomers.)

For those of you who don't know,  Daylilies only bloom for ONE DAY (hence the name)---but if you are lucky,  you'll get lots and lots of blooms from each plant.  AND--if they re-bloom,  you'll get many more...

I will have at least 3 posts featuring our Daylilies ----and many more featuring our Lilies.  This may take me most of the summer---off and on... AND--I also haven't done too many Rose posts, so that will come also... We are just so blessed to have so many beautiful flowers in our yard.

As of now,  most of the Lilies are gone --and more than half of the Daylilies (until they rebloom)...   BUT--our beautiful Roses will keep blooming until late Fall...

Today I'll share just some of our Daylilies.... Hope you enjoy them.  Be sure to enlarge them for better photos.  Above is a new one in the yard this year ---and you'll know by its name why I love it so much.  Its name is ORANGE VOLS.   Below are more!!!!

Carolyn Criswell Daylily

South Sea Daylily

Bama Bound Daylily

Custard Candy Daylily

Prairie Blue Eyes Daylily (even though it is definitely not BLUE)

Daring Deception Daylily

Wild Horses Daylily
Hope you enjoyed seeing just a few of our Daylilies...  IF you don't have them in your yard,  you should.  They will bloom --whether it is hot, wet, dry or whatever...  Very hearty---and OH--so beautiful!!!!

The only problem we have had this year are the DEER.... They seem to love the Daylilies ---even though we use both Deer Scram and Liquid Fence.  I'm sure the deer are desperate --since we have been SO hot and SO dry here... They are nibbling --but so far,  haven't done too much damage.

BUT--the good news today is that we did receive some rain yesterday --and it was cooler... Praise Be to God...  We need more rain --but I'm happy for what we do get.

Hope you have a good day.
Hugs,
Betsy

I don't have deer in my yard, just ants, squirrels and the occasional possum, maybe I should give these a try. They sure are pretty!

Do you get many sightseers at your place, Betsy? It seems to me your yard should be on the list of must-see places in your area. :)

So glad to hear you got some much-needed rain, Betsy. We are still extremely dry here. Your day lilies are all so pretty. What a blessing to have so much beauty right there in your yard.

Gorgeous. There are so many daylilies around town and they are such a warm burst of color. In fact, the Stella Dora is the city "flower". I love their buttery color.
Glad to hear you had some rain.

Best,
Bonnie

Between the roses in George's post and these lilies, I can imagine how pretty your yard must look.

I'm checking out my birding followers today while I have time and wanted to stop by and say howdy....

Betsy, I must admit, I think I'd have to just sit down on your lawn and drink up all the beautiful surroundings!!! Always, such a luscious variety of beauties you share.

I must say that "Prairie Blue Eyes" is the one I think I like the best...but then I favor pink. They are all beautiful. You must be very proud of every bloom! We need rain here in NY, too. It is very dry. We have deer in our back field but so far....they have stayed away from our gardens. Enjoy your photos so much, Betsey.

you Daring Deception is my favorite and also that photo gets Award of the Day for photography. love it

Gorgeous! You just have to end up smiling every morning as you look out at all these gloriously colorful flowers! What a gift!

My top three favorites are 1)Wild horse (I'm a sucker for purple), 2) Prairie Blue Eyes DL (bright pinks are a close second for me in flower color), and 3)Bama Bound --love that vibrant reddish hue!
Terrific post, Betsy! Thanks for making me smile over my coffee!:>)

I started out thinking I would pick a favourite, but the further I scrolled down the more I realized that is impossible. each one is gorgeous and special in its own way.I am glad you got some rain and a little less heat. I am waiting for the same here.

Your Daylilies are so beautiful! Mine haven't been doing so well this year. Don't know what the problem is as I don't have a deer problem so I am assuming it's just the heat and the drought. Your Wild Horse Daylily is my favorite.

Chatty Crone said...

Your day lilies are gorgeous and that is not surprise. I liked the South Sea Day lily I think the best. Sorry about the deer we don't have any right around here.

Betsy,
Wild Horses is one of the daylilies I've always wanted and never bought. I have no idea why, I've seen it in stores tons of times. Everyones daylily foliage looks so much better than mine! I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Beth said...

Beautiful, Betsy! I like them all, but really love the Prairie Blue Eyes.

Oh dear (or should I say Oh deer)...I can relate to the deer problem. Since we've always lived in the country, deer have been worrisome for us. We have a fence here, but they easily leap right over it. *Sigh*

Yay for the rain! We got some, too.

Just beautiful! I'll definitely have to include the Orange Vols Daylily when I ever get around to making the Go Vols! flowerbed I have planned. Nothing but orange and white! :)

I love the color of your Bama Bound Daylily! Mine haven't done well this year despite my watering them. Glad you finally got rain, we had rain last night, but doubt it will help much. What we really need is about three days of gentle downpour, but doubt that is anywhere in our forecast!

It has been raining here all morning long - a nice steady soaking rain. No wind, no lightening, no thunder. Lovely!

About those daylilies....I bought several a long time ago and carefully arranged them so something would be blooming through all of May and June. They are beautiful. Unfortunately, once we started traveling every May/June, the only person who gets to enjoy them is our niece who takes care of our yard when we travel.

Guess the joke is on us!!!! She did take pictures and send them to us this year!! LOL!

It is amazing they are still so beautiful with so little rain.

Those are all so pretty, so many colors. My daylily has no ID but looks like the South Sea variety. That's one reason I enjoy looking at the varieties in other garden blogs. -- Bom

Hello Betsy,

I was happy and flattered by his presence and his intelligent comment on my post about jealousy. I enjoyed your opinion, and I agree with you that we all jealous at one time or another, but those who are "really" jealous and take it to extremes are not people that need to be close, I think when the jealousy and ill have be a treatment that does not happen to tragedies later.
Thank you for your presence, I'll always be here by visiting your blog and reading your postagens.Fiquei happy to meet your space.
Big hug for you here in Brazil.

Oakes Farm in Corryton has developed many daylily varieties. Have you ever bought any from them?

Yes, the cooler temperatures and the rainfall are much appreciated!

We've had no problem with deer, but I think the raccoons know where the corn is located.:)

Yippee for the rain!
I love daylillies....and honestly, I didn't know they only bloomed for one day. Makes sense though.
I never thought to plant them here, I just assumed it was too hot. I'm thinking I will try them on your recommendation though.

My daylilies are loaded this year but I think they are all the same color. I only have 3 plants and your custard candy looks like mine, I'll try to get photos when they start blooming. The first one just opened this week.

You have the most incredible collection of daylilies anywhere Betsy. I really like the Prairie Blue Eyes, both the flower and the perspective of your photo. I'm glad to hear you got some rain. We could use some too.

So nice to see healthy day lilies. Mine look like they were hit with a flame thrower from the blisterng heat and no rain. The recent rains are bringing them back to life.
I hear a lot of animals will be visiting our yards due to the lack of food. Deer are so pretty and are forgiven, not so sure about bears.

So glad it's cooled off a bit!

Glad to hear you got a bit of rain, Betsy. We need the rain here so bad. They are saying we'll be back in the triple digits next week!!
Your lilies are beautiful. I only have the Stella D'Oros which I love and Daylilies. I really should see about planting more, but the pesky deer would probably eat them! They have been nibbling on my roses!

My goodness....those daylilies are some hot numbers. I really really like the south sea color. It's just a tad different from the rest and not a color I see often in flowers. Gorgeous. I wish they could grow here better but we have better luck with them in winter. However they only grow once and won't come back unless we dig them out and store them in cool places. What I like about your area and my parents is that these are kinda like an investment. You just keep adding little by little each year and within 10 years you've got a huge colorful garden! Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a great start to your weekend. Chris:)

My daylilies are already finished for this summer, too, Betsym but I enjoyed them while they lasted! Your varieties are wonderful -- "wild Hoses" varirty is especially gorgrous!

Thanks for the info you just sent me by e-mail --I did the same thing you did so hopefully all will be well soon! I just sent a reply back by e-mail. Thanks!

HI Betsy, your daylilies are all gorgeous. So many beautiful colors. My daylilies disappeared, my son turned into our driveway one evening and saw a deer. I believe they were all eaten. :(

Lovely post, have a great weekend.

I love lillies very much especially those which emit sweet fragrance. I cannot believe that there are so many species of lovely vibrant Daylillies growing there. Here we have to import the big ones and I guess I had only seen white, yellow and pink.

I did not know Daylilies only bloomed a day until I read George's blog. Your flowers are beautiful as always. We have gotten quite a bit of wonderful rain without wind this week.
One of my friends bought crystallized coyote urine to spread around their garden to discourage the raccoons.
