From the Archives: Antigua 2001

George and I  got married in June of 2001.  Our honeymoon was a seven day cruise to the South Caribbean in September of that year.  We had a fabulous time that entire week, even though 9/11 happened during our stay there.  It was strange being away from home that week--but we made the best of it,  and had a wonderful time.

Today I'll show you some of the coastline around ANTIGUA.  The picture above was taken from an old blockhouse which we visited while there.  The coastline in Antigua was the prettiest coastline of all of the areas we visited that week.

Here's another picture from there --looking at more of the coastline.  As you can tell,  this area was almost like a desert ---complete with cactus.   That seemed strange to me --since we were in a 'tropical' place.

Here's a picture looking down at the waves hitting shore.. The breakers were so pretty --and very STRONG.

We are now at an area called Shirley's Height.  You can see Nelson's Dockyard in the distance.  Nelson's Dockyard was named after Lord Nelson of the British Navy.

Here's a picture taken from Shirley's Height --looking out to sea.

These next two pictures are my favorites --since the sun was glistening on the water.  This is another picture of the beautiful coastline of Antigua.

Finally,  here's another beautiful picture of the coastline of Antigua.  If you ever have a chance to visit there,  do it!!!!

Hugs,

George and I drove to Tullahoma, TN yesterday to visit his parents in their new situation at G's sister's home.   They both seem well and fairly happy --knowing that they are where they NEED to be.  Bless their little hearts!!!!!

What a wonderful honeymoon destination! The shoreline is really beautiful. Bob and I have never been on a cruise. Perhaps one day we will experience "life on the open sea". I'm happy that George's parents are doing well at his sister's house.

Wonderful that George's parents are happy in their new situation. I know you both must feel better knowing they are being cared for with love.
It is tough giving up your independance.
Antigua is so beautiful, if I ever get the chance, I will definitely go. Wonderful pictures.

I'm so happy to hear about Georges parents. That's wonderful news. Do they know they're going to stay there, have they made up their minds? I'm guessing you'll all have to start packing up their house and getting rid of stuff. That won't be pleasant, but necessary.

Antigua is lovely, another place I'll never get to but I can always look at your pictures!! :)

I wonder if people who live on the coast appreciate its beauty as much as those of us who visit only occasionally. There's just something about the sun sparkling on the water and the waves crashing against the cliffs that speaks of a mighty God, isn't there? Beautiful pictures, Betsy.

Oh Betsy!! Beach pictures are the theme today! And I am sooo wishing I could be on one ;) What a beautiful place to spend your honeymoon!!!

My daughters birthday is 9/11 and it has taken a while to convince her that although it was a VERY sad day, it was also a day in which many turned their hearts back to God.

SO glad to hear Georges parents are settling in and happy :)

Hi Betsy, From the pictures it looks like that island has a wet side as well as the dry desert side. Typical of these islands. I think it is a beautiful place though I have never been there. Your pictures are great! Have a fantastically nice day today. By the way, plants did OK here last night. Glad I covered 'em.

What lovely vistas.
I too was on my honeymoon in 2001, in fact 9/11 happened the morning we were leaving to come home. We were at a B & B on the chilly north shore of Massachusetts.
By the way, it's nice to see you back :)
I am not on the computer very much, it will be some time before my eyes get better :(

All of these, so beautiful!!!!! But that third one, I don't even want to think about where you were standing to take that picture!! George posted a similarly scary picture today and I told him the same thing. The color of the water is unbelievable, with and without the sun on it.

Betsy, beautiful photos as usual. Looks like a place I would love to explore!

what a beautiful place that is.
That does seem strange that you would find cactus in such a tropical spot. It must have been an amazing week spent there

What a great place for a honeymoon, that coastline is gorgeous. You and George were honeymooning at the same time we were moving across the state to Walla Walla.

Glad to hear George's parents are at his sister's home now. I'm sure you will all rest a little easier now.

I'm catching up today Betsy.
I love the deep blue color of the ocean in your pictures. I've been invited on several cruises but have never gone. I have clostraphobia and don't know how I would react to loosing sight of land. Maybe I'll get brave one day and try it !!
Have a blessed day.

What a nice place for a honeymoon! I have dreams about going on another vacation to see an ocean, after our 2007 visit to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

I love your photos!
