George and I got married in June of 2001. Our honeymoon was a seven day cruise to the South Caribbean in September of that year. We had a fabulous time that entire week, even though 9/11 happened during our stay there. It was strange being away from home that week--but we made the best of it, and had a wonderful time.
Today I'll show you some of the coastline around ANTIGUA. The picture above was taken from an old blockhouse which we visited while there. The coastline in Antigua was the prettiest coastline of all of the areas we visited that week.
Here's another picture from there --looking at more of the coastline. As you can tell, this area was almost like a desert ---complete with cactus. That seemed strange to me --since we were in a 'tropical' place.
Here's a picture looking down at the waves hitting shore.. The breakers were so pretty --and very STRONG.
We are now at an area called Shirley's Height. You can see Nelson's Dockyard in the distance. Nelson's Dockyard was named after Lord Nelson of the British Navy.
Here's a picture taken from Shirley's Height --looking out to sea.
These next two pictures are my favorites --since the sun was glistening on the water. This is another picture of the beautiful coastline of Antigua.
Finally, here's another beautiful picture of the coastline of Antigua. If you ever have a chance to visit there, do it!!!!
Hugs,
George and I drove to Tullahoma, TN yesterday to visit his parents in their new situation at G's sister's home. They both seem well and fairly happy --knowing that they are where they NEED to be. Bless their little hearts!!!!!
What beautiful vistas...something you and George will never forget!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Betsy. I love the atmosphere of it. Wonderful honeymoon too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing for George's parents.
Betsy,
ReplyDeleteI opened your post today and it took my breath away with that very first photo...you know the ocean is in my heart and soul and that blue water is just stunning!
When in your anniversary date? We were married June 10 :)
hugs to you lady! always thinking of you!
Beautiful scenes. The sparkling water is so lovely. To me this looks like someone took a handful of diamonds and tossed them on the water.Glad to hear that Georges' parents are doing well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful honeymoon destination! The shoreline is really beautiful. Bob and I have never been on a cruise. Perhaps one day we will experience "life on the open sea". I'm happy that George's parents are doing well at his sister's house.
ReplyDeleteWonderful that George's parents are happy in their new situation. I know you both must feel better knowing they are being cared for with love.
ReplyDeleteIt is tough giving up your independance.
Antigua is so beautiful, if I ever get the chance, I will definitely go. Wonderful pictures.
I'm so happy to hear about Georges parents. That's wonderful news. Do they know they're going to stay there, have they made up their minds? I'm guessing you'll all have to start packing up their house and getting rid of stuff. That won't be pleasant, but necessary.
ReplyDeleteAntigua is lovely, another place I'll never get to but I can always look at your pictures!! :)
glad to hear the move in with their daughter is working out ok, it is always hard. these photos are breathtaking, the color of the water in some of them is fantastic. a beautiful place for a honey moon. we went to Captiva here in FL and it is really pretty there, or it was 26 years ago.
ReplyDeleteOH how beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy parents lived in St. Lucia for five years, and these photos brought back some happy memories for me!

What a beautiful place! The water is such a gorgeous color; even the foam on the breakers is blue.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Betsy. Always nice to look back on an extra special time.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that the folks are happy in their new digs. MB
You have been to some lovely places, this is real nice here. Thanks for some great pictures to share.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if people who live on the coast appreciate its beauty as much as those of us who visit only occasionally. There's just something about the sun sparkling on the water and the waves crashing against the cliffs that speaks of a mighty God, isn't there? Beautiful pictures, Betsy.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful place. Love the photo's with the glistening sun. Hope you and George are having a good day.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful in your archives! Thanks for sharing, beautiful again

ReplyDeleteLOVE these photos...makes me want to escape to an island TODAY!!!
Oh Betsy!! Beach pictures are the theme today! And I am sooo wishing I could be on one ;) What a beautiful place to spend your honeymoon!!!
ReplyDeleteMy daughters birthday is 9/11 and it has taken a while to convince her that although it was a VERY sad day, it was also a day in which many turned their hearts back to God.
SO glad to hear Georges parents are settling in and happy :)
Beautiful post, Betsy. That is one gorgeous place to honeymoon for sure. Glad George's parents are doing well in their new home. I know that is a huge relief for you and George, too, to know that they are being well taken care of. Hugs, Cheryl
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy, From the pictures it looks like that island has a wet side as well as the dry desert side. Typical of these islands. I think it is a beautiful place though I have never been there. Your pictures are great! Have a fantastically nice day today. By the way, plants did OK here last night. Glad I covered 'em.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pictures and the Best Honeymoon I could ever dream of!! (Except for 9/11 of course... I have a story of that week also, for a later time).
ReplyDeleteThank you for always sharing your Love and beautiful experenaces with Us!! XOXOXO
What lovely vistas.
ReplyDeleteI too was on my honeymoon in 2001, in fact 9/11 happened the morning we were leaving to come home. We were at a B & B on the chilly north shore of Massachusetts.
By the way, it's nice to see you back :)
I am not on the computer very much, it will be some time before my eyes get better :(

All of these, so beautiful!!!!! But that third one, I don't even want to think about where you were standing to take that picture!! George posted a similarly scary picture today and I told him the same thing. The color of the water is unbelievable, with and without the sun on it.
ReplyDeleteThe Antigua beach is truly beautiful. What a great place for a honeymoon!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful spot! Such scenery.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear George's folks have help close at hand. I'm sure you are all breathing a sigh of relief.
Gorgeous blue water in the first photo.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have been there too on a cruise last year.
All the islands are just beautiful.
What a beautiful place to spend your honeymoon! I am so partial to tropical places.....can't get enough of them!!!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, beautiful photos as usual. Looks like a place I would love to explore!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful place that is.
ReplyDeleteThat does seem strange that you would find cactus in such a tropical spot. It must have been an amazing week spent there
Love pictures of the Caribbean because I want to go back to one of the islands next winter!
ReplyDeleteBetsy those are so beautiful, although all the Islands pretty much look alike, there is always something different in each, thank you for sharing, I enjoyed these very much, and know they bring many happy memories to you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! It has a much drier look to it than I would have imagined though.
ReplyDeleteI have been on a lot of cruises and to many of the islands, but never here. Enjoyed seeing it through your lens.
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous place! Glad to hear George's folks are settling in to their new surroundings.

Oh Betsy, I'm so glad to hear that George's parents are now where they NEED to be. The adjustments will come and I venture to say that it's a huge relief for the two of you to know that they taken care of! What a blessing!
ReplyDeleteLovely virtual trip down your memory lane. Such a gorgeous spot on the globe! Love the sparkling and such pretty blue water!
I love Antigua. It is one of the prettiest islands, next to Aruba of course. Would love to go back there someday.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots! Gorgeous place, I wish to go. My wishes and prayers Betsy!

What a great place for a honeymoon, that coastline is gorgeous. You and George were honeymooning at the same time we were moving across the state to Walla Walla.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear George's parents are at his sister's home now. I'm sure you will all rest a little easier now.
I've never been to Antigua but your photos make me want to go there.
ReplyDeleteI'm catching up today Betsy.
ReplyDeleteI love the deep blue color of the ocean in your pictures. I've been invited on several cruises but have never gone. I have clostraphobia and don't know how I would react to loosing sight of land. Maybe I'll get brave one day and try it !!
Have a blessed day.

Looking at the pictures - - - does it make you want to take a return trip? Sometimes return trips are never as special as the first - - - and there are so many, many places yet in the world we have not seen - - right?!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice place for a honeymoon! I have dreams about going on another vacation to see an ocean, after our 2007 visit to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
ReplyDeleteI love your photos!
