Falls of Hills Creek, West Virginia

Us at Middle Falls of Hills Creek -6/25/14  (45 feet high)
You know that we can NEVER go on a trip without checking out some waterfalls...  This time we visited the  Falls of Hills Creek in the Monongahela National Forest area of West Virginia (on 6/25/14).   Hope you enjoy the photos today.  Be sure to click on them for enlargements.

Beautiful Trail to visit the waterfalls

The photographer at work--as we cross a little bridge,  while on the trail

Me on one of the series of steps down to the waterfalls
Like the steps I showed you in my blog post from Grandview,  someone VERY SMART and CREATIVE has done a fantastic job of  building these steps and platforms... I read that there were about 400 steps down,  which means that there were 400 steps BACK UP (Pant Pant).... ha

But the area was so beautiful all around us... I would recommend these waterfalls to ALL of you---and even though there were alot of steps,  there were places to stop and rest if needed along the way... It was a VERY nice area/trail....

Are you hearing her saying to him:  "Wait for me"...... OR is he saying to her:  "Wait for me... You are moving too fast!!"   Hmmmmmm---I wonder!!!!! ha ha

Who is that peaking over the edge???
Once we got down to Middle Falls,  we had to go down a series of METAL steps in order to get to the bottom platform..

Middle Falls (45 feet);  This is my 'attempt' to take a  fancy photo like my hubby does.  His are MUCH better --but this one is okay I guess.

George heading down to the bottom platform at Lower Falls
When we got down to the area where we could see Lower Falls,  guess what we found????  YES---it was another set of steps DOWN......

See her --way up there?  She is asking George:  "Can we take the elevator back up?"  ha ha
See what a fantastic job they did of building all of these steps and platforms.  Wow---we were impressed.

Lower Falls of Hills Creek,  63 feet

My Hero doing his 'thing'--taking lots of fantastic photos

US at Lower Falls of Hills Creek,  West VA   6/25/14
Well---how did you like THAT hike?????  We loved it --even all of those steps! Such a gorgeous, woodsy area ---and very well-maintained!!!!!  Check it out--if you get to West VA.  If you want more information about this area,  click HERE.

Have a tremendous weekend..

I never realized there were so many falls in that part of the world. So how about a post on why you two have taken the visit to falls as your love and hobby? Is there a story behing that?

The Falls of Hill Creek are very beautiful, and you got some wonderful pictures (except for the Old Man!). Your 'fancy' photo of Middle Falls is excellent.

Pocahontas County is a really pretty part of WV. Did you make it to Cranberry Glades while there?

I love waterfalls. But it would take me three days to get back up all those stairs.

I love that you take us along on your trips, Betsy! You find the most wonderful places! I'm so impressed with your ability to negotiate those stairs! You're a true inspiration!

WOW That was a LOT of steps! You are in great shape to be able to go up those things. It looks like hundreds of stairs to me. :-) But the beauty that awaited you at the end looks like it was worth it. It puts joy into my heart to see you and your Hubby so happy together.
Blessings,
Betsy

I think George was saying "come on Betsy, just another 275 steps to go. You can do it!" A tip of the hat to whoever (state? federal?) built those steps so many could enjoy the natural wonders of that beautiful state.

Best,
Bonnie

Hi Betsy, So glad you had such fun on your anniversary vacation trip. I would not go to the bottom because of all the stairs but would love to see the falls some day. Have a fantastic weekend!

Lovely series of waterfalls. Lovely stairs. (If you don't have to climb back up.)

Betsy, Beautiful country that's for sure! My knees and hip would never make 400 stair steps though...even though I love waterfalls, rivers and creeks. We do need to get out there and visit West Virginia. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

Oh, gosh, I think I am becoming dizzy! I want to lay down and not move! Your fancy George picture turned out really swell! I love the look of it. And the big fall is awesome! But I think my favorite MAY be you and George in the matching purple shirts, they are a different color for you and so pretty!

I have a park nearby that has even more steps to get into the main area. Very nice selection today.

WHY are there so many stairs. Lovely views but really. They would do me in.

I always wonder what a job it must have been to build steps like that...just cannot imagine all the work involved. But so glad they did till people can enjoy the are....and it is BEAUTIFUL!

what a beautiful area. I would love to follow that trail in your second shot and I might be able to do those 400 steps but certainly not without a break or two...lol

You and George sure know how to find them!

Holy crackers that is a lot of stairs but you two are in such amazing shape that I'm sure it didn't even give you pause. Will have some waterfalls coming up soon in my blog for you - took a 7 mile hike to get them but there are still more up there I want to see.
