Amicalola Falls in March of 2014! (Compare this one to the next one) |
George and I visited Amicalola Falls State Park near Dawsonville, Georgia from March 24-26, 2014. Today I'll share more photos from that fabulous park. As I said in this past Friday's blog post, Amicalola Falls is 729 feet high and is Georgia's highest waterfall, and is the third highest falls in the Eastern United States. There are 600 steps leading up to that glorious waterfall. Hope you enjoy my photos...

Amicalola Falls in March of 2011 |
And we just 'thought' there was alot of water coming over the falls this year... Look at the photo I took when we were there in March of 2011 (after tons and tons of rain).
|
Amicalola Falls --from a distance, with the long lens! |
|
Amicalola Falls ----from a LONG distance; (You can also see the lodge where we stayed --on the top of the mountain!) |
|
|
|
|
|
The 'small' creek at the bottom of the mountain; We walked in this area --and the Rhododendrons were beautiful. |
|
This is the Reflecting Pool --at the bottom of the waterfall. See that swing? That's where George and I sat and enjoyed some lunch. It was COLD ---but the sun made it bearable. |
|
George took this photo from the very TOP of the waterfall --showing the Reflecting Pool (pictured above) WAY down there (about 1000 feet down). See it???? |
|
Looking down toward the bottom; See the steps on the left? |
|
Another photo showing some of the 600 steps! |
|
Photo from below the bridge; There's one more bridge (at the VERY top)--which you cannot see. |
|
Us at the bridge I showed you in the photo above...It was neat being so close to the top of that huge waterfall. |
|
I took this photo of the very TOP of this gorgeous waterfall, with my long lens. |
Hope you enjoyed seeing more photos from this fantastic waterfall. Have a great weekend and week ahead.
I found out in March that blogging less often is good for me --and gives me time for all of my interests in so many other things. I just can't find enough hours in my day!
Please forgive me for not commenting very much on your blogs lately.. Life has gotten in the way BIGTIME... We are busy weeding and putting down mulch. There's SO much to do in the yard. Please don't give up on me. I do keep records of who comments on my blog and when, and I so appreciate getting comments from those whom I have NOT had time to visit. It means so much to me. You are special!
Because of life's busyness, I'm taking another blog break on Monday and Wednesday, but will be back on Friday, April 11. Have a great week. Love you all.
Hugs,

You must have enjoyed the day well. Nice to see lot of water in the waterfalls. Beautiful photos!
The difference in the amount of water is dramatic. All those steps and the fact you two are able to climb them is even more so danged impressive. I would love to sit on the swing and look out over the reflecting pool... because that would be sooooooo much easier than the stairs! I don't think my knees could take it, at least not both ways.
More beautiful waterfall pictures! What a difference; reminds me of some around here. It must have been a huge job to build those steps! Enjoy the yard work; I'm looking forward to the day we can start ours....
What a beautiful place. Can't wait for my son to take us there on one of our visits to GA. Have a great weekend.
You got some beautiful pictures of a beautiful (and special) place.
Its great to see the waterfalls when they are full and when they are less full great comparison shots. The reflecting pool is pretty.
Betsy, Beautiful photos! My knees and hip would seriously rebel against all those stairs... I'm always looking for waterfalls that are easy to get to. I don't mind walking but when it comes to climbing, I'll leave that to younger folks and the two of you! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
what a nice area to visit. You find the best to see.
i am cutting way back on comments and will continue to
There is just something about a waterfall - I absolutely love them. And this one is incredible. If you gave me a couple of days I might be able to make the climb up all those steps. Such gorgeous views.
You find the best places to go. Wouldn't it be marvelous to walk in that valley when the rhododendrons are in bloom?
Such a beautiful place! I do love waterfalls! Terrific captures as always -- the next best thing to being there myself!! Hope you and George have a lovely weekend, Betsy!! Enjoy!
Oh my, such wondrous beauty! The water is simply beautiful! Happy weekend to you :)
At first I was going to say that I hoped you didn't get any of this last storm. However, I will change that to say I hope you got none of the WIND from this storm but got lots of water to make your waterfalls full and lovely like the one above.
Enjoy your break.
I think I like those falls better with less water coming over them, but that's just my thoughts. Have a great week and don't work too hard.
These are some gorgeous pictures! I love the one showing the reflecting pool from the top of the falls and then the one with the swing at the pool itself. You must be in fantastic shape to do all of that stair climbing. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful countryside with us.
Have fun with your "life in the way" work. Isn't it great to be able to do all of those things?
Blessings,
Betsy
Hey Betsy,
That is a beautiful waterfall. How long did it take you all to climb those 600 steps, haha !!
I know what you mean about getting behind on reading and commenting on blog post as it seems with this late spring everything needs to be done at once and in the last week I have struggled to keep up with just posting on my blog.
Have a blessed weekend and next week, don't work too hard.
Marilyn
Yes, I can now call both of you a waterfall couple. Just joking. I wish me and hubby can do such a thing,
Anyway, blogging really takes time and sometimes we need to take a break so that we can do other things:)
Really beautiful photos, Betsy. What a difference between the March photos of 2014 and 2011! Pretty amazing falls, though, either way. Love the shot of you and George.
I love the photos of the water cascading over the rocks - just beautiful.
The second picture is SO much water that it is white and looks like a snowfall!!!! That is my favorite here. My other is the last one, your angle of the shot is wonderful and the fall looks almost lacy! Also, you must be the most fit woman on EARTH!!
Beautiful!!! I think my favorite photos are the very last- how gorgeous that water is- and that reflecting pool! I can just imagine how pleasant it must have been to sit there by it. What a wonderful place to sit and relax.
Hope you have a great weekend!!
Hugs,
Jazzmin
I am always so jealous of you guys with all of the great places you visit.
You can always find great photos here. : )
Betsy your waterfalls shots are beautiful. What a wonderful place to visit. Have a happy weekend!
Wow, 600 steps. That is a lot. Beautiful falls. Sure wish I could see some of them but I do enjoy thru your eyes. Errrr camera. lol
Beautiful photos, Betsy! I really like the reflecting pool. Have a nice week!
Okay did I tell you I loved your header? And I would love to sit at the bottom of that reflecting pool!
Don't worry Betsy we all get busy and visit our fav blogs when time permits. A balance I suppose.
Anyhow dear girl, the photos are magnificent to say the least. What an amazing country in which you live.
Enjoy your weekend!
Honestly Betsy, as busy as you are with your travels I don't know how you find the time for blogging at all.
This is such a gorgeous area, I would love to visit there.
I sure do like all the photos of the waterfalls today. My favorite is the bridge in front of the waterfall. Have a great blog break.
The stairs looks adventures to climb that too alongside the falls… awesome waterfalls Betsy! Superb captures... I liked the long shot on the falls and view from the bridge cross. The reflecting pools seems so peaceful to spent leisure.
I am also going though the same situation as urs... without enough time to do many works I took while I wasn’t connected with internet. Hope u both doing great... will check u r other post later. Take care
You and George always capture your photos gloriously. Perfect beautiful waterfalls. Thanks for sharing. Hugs Judy
The falls in 2011 were almost scary with so much water coming down! We ate dinner at the lodge when we visited. The views from there were lovely. Glad you're seeing lots of sights in between all the yardwork!
Oh My those steps :) Lovely pictures as usual.
So many lovely shots. Enjoy your break!
I like pretty little creeks. and I would love to sit on that swing, what a perfect spot. :)
hugs,
Marie
What a beautiful place. I am glad you went, you hiked and brought back some amazing shots. Now get busy in the yard. We are doing the same here. Lots to do. MB

i so enjoyed your post/photos.
wish you a great week ahead!

I don't think we've been to Amicalola Falls. I think I should put it on a list of places in GA to go. The kids would definitely love the waterfall.
I love this falls and visited it often when I lived in GA. It's good to see it again. That is a big difference in the water flow over the falls.
I hope you have been enjoying your blog break Betsy.
A very pretty waterfall and that pool is beautiful!
But, the photo with ALL the water is impressive.
These falls are so amazing! Just beautiful! I get behind in responding to comments a lot. I will go a few days without blogging and then get only five or if I'm doing good, six to eight, responded to on the blog of the person who left the comment. So, I stay behind up to two weeks sometimes in getting back to people. But, it's the best I can do. I like to look at all the blog posts I've missed on every person's blog who has left me a comment and that sometimes takes time. But, I always keep at it, and sometimes I even almost get caught up! :-) One has to live their life, and can't be on the computer every day for hours.
Beautiful pictures. Looks like you all had an amazing trip!
Dear Betsy, I found this posting so interesting. I've always known about Niagara Falls, but I never really realized that there were other long falls in the eastern part of the USA. So thanks for introducing me to Amicacola Falls. Truly awe-inspiring. Peace.
Enjoyed the photos of this lovely area. Enjoy your break(s), however many or long they might be. We'll be here when you get back! Hugs.

I'm late! apologies! Your Amicalola Trip must have been then and now..hope you'll enjoy many more in future.
Have a good weekend and enjoy your other activities too.
Happy weeding! :-)
The water in the Reflecting Pool is so clean. Looks deep. If shallow it would be nice to paddle there
