BROWN THRASHER |
There have been a few more birds visiting my feeders recently... So today, I will share some photos for you. Above is a bird who visits us regularly from spring through fall each year. It is a Brown Thrasher. Be sure to click on the photos in order to see enlargements.
|
BLUE JAY |
I love putting peanuts out for the birds. The Blue Jays LOVE them!!!
|
female EASTERN BLUEBIRD |
Mama Bluebird loves the mealworms I put out for them... Another bird that likes the mealworms is the Carolina Wren.
|
GOLDFINCH |
Our male Goldfinches are getting their gorgeous yellow and black colors now.
|
PINE SISKINS |
How many Pine Siskins will fit on a plate?? ha ha.. The Pine Siskins weren't around much at all until recently --but there are LOTS of them these days!!!
|
MOURNING DOVE |
I love this photo of one of our resident Mourning Doves. Two of them are around --most of the times in the evenings. They do like to 'hog' the plate feeder!!!
|
CROSSBILLS |
This is not a good picture (I was shooting through the screen door) --but I wanted you to see the Crossbills one more time. They (and the Purple Finches) were around here for a few days--but I haven't seen them lately. There were at least two of them --and I love their 'rust' colors!!!
|
CROSSBILL |
Here's one more picture of a CROSSBILL up close and personal. Again, I apologize for the photo quality due to the screen door being between me and the bird.
|
CHIPPING SPARROW |
Here is a cute little Chipping Sparrow. We have a few of them around these days --but not too many. They are cute little birds.
|
PILEATED WOODPECKER |
Mr. Pileated is gazing up at the suet feeder... He acted like he had never done that before --so he was figuring out what to do!!!!
|
PILEATED WOODPECKER |
WELL---he made it!!! He climbed the pole --and enjoyed some suet for lunch!!! Oh--such a pretty bird!!!!
I was THRILLED to get so much great response to my blog post this past Monday on Introverts and Extroverts... Click
HERE to see that post and the comments. There are some great comments --and it appears as if MOST of us are adaptable to the situations around us, and most of us have a little introvert AND a little extrovert in us. I'll do another similar post sometime since most of you seemed to enjoy it.
Hope you also enjoyed seeing some of my backyard birds today... Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday. (By the way, I hope you didn't miss my Photo Blog picture on Wednesday. Click
HERE if you missed it. Hope you enjoy it!)
Hugs,

Betsy, these are especially beautiful photos! So crisp and clear. Beautiful subjects, too.
I love the variety of birds you have Betsy. Super photographs!
Betsy, you do get a great variety of birds there. I love them all! Great photos. Have a wonderful weekend!
I like the chipping sparrow's soft blue color topped by the stripes above the eyes and the colorful top of the head. I agree with you on the rust color of the crossbill--a refreshing difference.
If I can't wake up to live birds outside my windows, yours are the next best thing!:>)
(I posted more Ireland pictures this week on corner view.)
Do you think the birds are Extrovert or Introvert???LOL..Always enjoy your posts/photos
These are great. I cannot get the pileated in close at all. I do not feed in the summer due to fear of diseases for the birds, so no more feeder watching until fall.
I like how you put out a varied menu to suit you birds favorites. I tend to put just one choice out which explains my lack of variety.
Wonderful shots.
enjoy the woodpecker. ( :
looks like lots of folks are going the bird route. the birds around here fly to fast. i don't have a quick enough camera. maybe one day. have a great weekend.
Who would guess that there are so many introverts out there? The great thing about blogging, is that one can be an introvert, but yet feel confident through blogging to express themselves well. I enjoy such topics because there really is no wrong or right answer.
These photos of the birds are so sweet. I like the little fat blue bird (forgot it's name) He is so cute.
It's gonna be a great day....Enjoy
Hello Betsy, I always enjoy seeing your backyard birds... They are truly all very lovely... Have a great weekend too.. IS it warm down there in the south yet... Hugs Judy
You have such an interesting variety of birds. I have many of the same ones you have except for a few. Saw my first ever Brown Thrasher on Tuesday - haven't seen him since. Have a great weekend.
Wonderful photos.
Mourning doves do hog the plate. Blue jays flip seeds all over until they find what they want.
Enjoy your flying friends.

You have lots of birds, Betsy!!! I'd like to send you our Pine Siskins! We have 30 or mooore at the time!!!
all the birds are beautiful, but the first 3 photos are just plain awesome shots of them. i love that first one, truly a beautiful photo.
The Brown Thrasher looks like he's about to ask where his breakfast is! LOL!
Lovely birds at your house - our bluejays and magpies are back!
Bluejays can be such bullies, but they are very entertaining to watch, especially when there are peanuts around. Love Mr. Pileated. You always manage to capture such good photos of your birds.
Lots of pretty birds coming to your home for dinner. We travel so much that I don't want them getting used to eating here. Our winters can get so cold and I don't want them relying on me for food.
Betsy---enjoying looking at your collection of bird photography! Some of those are not easy to get--like the Pileated. Have not seen him here this year----yet! Missing him. Thanks for sharing!
I think your "birdie kitchen" is working out really well. You got some great pictures.
What a wonderful variety of birds you have, Betsy! I love your captures for the day!! Have a beautiful weekend! Enjoy!
Always love you bird shots, Betsy. Those Pine Siskins are so comical aren't they. Right now they are outnumbering the Goldfinches for the Niger feeders. But they have chased away the Chickadees for some reason. there are plenty of feeders to go around. MB
Love all your birds! I was going to say the goldfinches were my favorite, until I got to the pileated woodpecker! How exciting to have this bird at your feeder!
I hope i will remember all them names of the birds:)
Wonderful photos. I like the fact that the birds stand out and the background
doesn't so they are very clear. Each bird is so characterful. Have a good weekend, Betsy!
I guess in California we don't have a large selection of bird species. I guess there are more out in the wild, but here in the suburbs, I only see crows, hummers, and finches. I do see woodpeckers when I'm out hiking in the hills. I'm sure in northern California there are more different kinds of birds.
I love that first pic - what a cute little bird!
I LOVE seeing your backyard birds. With the kind of weather we are enjoying today,I'm sure many more birds will be passing through my yard soon.
wow! so cute!!
love your bird shots, especially the blue jay. what a beautiful bird!
have a lovely weekend and thank you for sharing this delightful post full of gorgeous bird photos!
i really enjoyed it!
big hugs
Interesting, my bluebirds won't touch the mealworms so I've given up putting them out. Love your photos!
These are great photos of your backyard birds, Betsy. I think I like the one of the Mourning Dove the best. I hope you and George have a nice weekend!
You are blessed with the most beautiful birds in your yard! Fantastic pictures Betsy! You sure have a very nice assortment of things for them to nibble on!
I am serious you need to send these into National Geographic - they are fantastic shots. I loved each one! sandie
Great bird pics. I have been doing alot of bird watching lately also. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Blessings

Beautiful shots of the birds Betsy, I especially like the blue jay one, perhaps because my fav colour is blue. Gorgeous! Enjoy your weekend!
Very nice, I was blessed with seeing a phoebe and two warblers as spring arrivals.
The tiny chipper is beyond cute! Love the jay with the big nut in his beak! and gads, a Thrasher!!!! They are so shy, but you charmed him!!
Betsy, it looks like you have the entire chorus present in your back yard and your captures of them individually are awesome....
Love the post and now I must check out what I missed. Thanks for supplying a link. Peace
That little Chipping sparrow is just the cutest thing ever. You always have the most interesting birds around your feeders Betsy.
Happy Weekend!
beautiful shots of all the birds. I love that little chipping sparrow. so cute.
Awesome photos. I have just started putting out food for our birds. I should follow your example and put out a good selection of food for the birds.
Love your thrasher! Haven't seen one for a while here....maybe soon. All the lovely birds. I love this time of year.
Those bird shots are wonderful! I love that woodpecker.
There are so many different colours, shapes and sizes. It must be like living in an avery.
Hello Betsy, I love them all. Especially the woodpecker.. You take the most wonderful photos, so perfect. And, they reflect your beautiful heart. xx
All great photos, Betsy. Our feeders are quite full at this time of year with all the beauties we have here. We could watch them for hours.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
I love the variety of birds you have!!

You seem to have a greater variety of birds every year, and your photos get continually more impressive, too!
I enjoyed the introvert/extrovert comments. That was a thought-provoking post.
Wonderful closeups of our feathered friends. Thanks Betsey!
Such stunning shots, Betsy! You always get such a great variety of birds. We are having a hot dry late spring now, and I hope it rains soon but it doesn't look like it will. Glad you guys got a snow finally, and now a gorgeous spring as well!
All of your backyard birds are so cute....and I can tell they are very happy that you put out such a plethora of goodies. The Chipping Sparrow has such a cute expression on his/her face; love it!
XO
Pretty birdies!! We have woodpeckers and mourning doves and the brown thrasher is our state bird.
Our birds are finally starting to come home. No finches yet! I always anticipate their return with much joy!
Hope you had a fantastic weekend Betsy!
xo Catherine
Your birds! Your glorious birds!!! Nice and awesome birds! Love the Brown Thrasher. What an incredible shot! I have yet to see one but I'm hoping soon when I go home to visit. Thanks for sharing. You are so lucky to have Crossbills. I've only seen them once and the views weren't so great. I'd love to get closer observations:)
Nah...i think Mr. Pileated is posing for you
