More from Rocky Mountain National Park

On September 17, 2012,   after traveling on the Old Falls River Road ---next we went south to Grand Lake.  (If you have missed any of my blog posts from our West Trip this past fall,  you can click HERE to see any or all of those 10 posts.)  The weather was 'iff-y' --but even though there was rain around us,  we didn't have any much that day.  The picture above shows some beautiful sunbeams peeking through the clouds as we traveled along the Trail Ridge Road.

We stopped at Poudre Lake at Milner Pass to check out the lake and Continental Divide.  Here is a collage with some of our pictures.  We took a short hike in that area ---and I took that picture of George standing in front of that HUGE evergreen tree.

Next,  we got to the Grand Lake area ---and took a hike to see Adams Falls.    The photo above is of GRAND LAKE,  near the parking area where we hiked to the falls.

Here is a collage of pictures taken at Adams Falls.   I think George was happy that someone named that waterfall after HIM... How 'bout that?   The picture on the right shows a little bit of the trail to the falls.  It was a pretty area.

George took this picture of me on the trail at Adams Falls.

On the road back up the mountain,  we experienced quite a bit of interesting weather.  That made for some great sky pictures....

Here's one more great picture of the sky showing the Sunbeams which George took.  Isn't it beautiful?

And here is one I took of George at one of the overlooks that day.  We could see all of the rain around us!!!!  Amazing pictures!!

Finally,  before leaving the park,  we had to stop and see the ELK one more time.  They are gorgeous animals.

That is the end of our visit to the Rocky Mountain National Park.  The next day (Sept. 18)--we headed to Yellowstone.  Many more photos and posts to come!!!!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++
George and I spent a couple of wonderful days in the SMOKIES this week..  BUT--we came home early since our area is expecting an ICE STORM today....  If you don't hear from me for awhile, then just know that we have lost our electricity due to heavy ice.  I hope and pray that it won't happen --but we are home, safe and sound, and we have a fireplace and plenty of food,  if it does.  Please say a Prayer for everyone in the path of this storm.  Snow is one thing --but ICE is something that nobody ever wants.  It can be so dangerous and cause so many, many problems.

Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday. (I hope).

Hugs,

Great shots of RMNP I like the one of george sitting on the wall with the dramatic sky behind.

I hope your ice storm isn't too severe and that you stay safe. I have never experienced an ice storm but we are in for a wild and woolly weekend too. The tail end of a cyclone is going to dump inches of rain and threaten to cause flooding.

Hi Betsy, wonderful photos from the RMNP. I love the shot of you with the pretty colorful tree in the background. And I like how you are posting the photos, they look like postcards. Great idea! The ice storm sounds scary, safe warm and safe. Have a happy day!

Considering what all you and George have done to promote waterfalls, it is only right that there be an Adams Falls.
Love those mountains.

gorgeous shots. i love the view behind George there at the overlook. amazing!! ( :

We are thinking of taking a trip to RMNP in August this year and that idea is mostly inspired by your September trip. Our previous trips have all been in May. Many areas have still been closed due to snow and your pictures have inspired us to want to see those places. I guess the trade-off will be not seeing the spring run-off in all the waterfalls. Adams Falls looks quite anemic compared to the two times we've seen it in May!!! Stay safe today. Have already talked to Bill and his school is closed so no traveling for him. Thankfully!

That banner makes your house looks so cozy...here is hoping you stay warm through the ice storm.

The Rockies are sure beautiful. I haven't been to Grand Lake in many years. I really like the picture where you can see streams of sun rays through the clouds.

George’s sunbeam shot was stunning! Your latest addition of collage is fascinating Betsy, you lovely created these postures. The entire area is breathtaking with wonderful lakes and views.

Yes, too much of anything isn't good. Snow could be fun, but ice is something sounds scary... I wish and hope you all are safe. Take care u both

I love it when things are named after me! Vol Fan and I like to pretend we 'own' all those things. I'm sure you've seen our trucking company trucks on the interstate - R & L Trucking :)

Sad to say it was in this beautiful park and specifically on the Trail Ridge Road that Mrs. T. discovered she was subject to "panic attack". We have never gone back...:(

Saying a prayer for ya'll and everyone else in the storm's path.
I love your RNP photos. We had such a wonderful time there, except for coming out on the interstate with a gajillion cars honking...didn't like that part at all!

Lovely shots as always and stay home and stay warm through these storms okay?!

I saw the beautiful rays of sun - and I love the reddish orange bush. I hear the pollution there is bad right now in the valleys - the dark clouds won't let it out. People are actually wearing masks - so you went at a great time.

Amazing journeys. Your pictures are some of the best. With all your experience they cannot be anything but great. In one of the cloud shots, it looks like what my mother used to say. the clouds are drawing water for rain. Trust that ice misses you.

the sun beams are very cool.

You captured some lovely sky images on this trip. One of your collage photos seems to show a cloud almost within reach. The bright orange tree on the Adams Falls trail was neat to see, too, as well as the sunbeams. Love sunbeams.

Hope you don't lose power in the ice storm; although, for you and George, with your preparedness, it could almost be fun.

Ginny Hartzler said...

Wow, so much here to love today, Betsy. And I like that you are doing some collages with each post. My faves today are you on that rocky path with the stunning orange tree beside you, George's collage, and George sitting on the high overlook. You do have gotten to be real PROS at your trip pictures.

Hunker down and stay warm. I'll keep my fingers crossed you don't lose power!

Great shots Betsy - You saw a lot more of the RMNP than we did and we'll have to correct that next time. We were ice covered this AM but just getting rain now at 33* so I'm hopeful we won't loose power.

Oh, Betsy, love, love, LOVE that picture with the beams of light.

I think our brothers in the Cumberland Gap area are still getting the ice. The college over in Harrogate was shut down today...

Dear Betsy, the text and photographs that illustrate your hiking and your visiting to parks and other places always draw me right in and I'm eager to learn more.

Your blog really takes me out of this house in Independence, Missouri, and introduces me to wonderful places around our beautiful country. Thank you for that.

Betsy, I've been away from reading and commenting on blogs for about six weeks due to several things that have happened. If there are any of your postings that you'd especially like me to read, please send me the URLs in an e-mail or insert them in the comment box on my blog. Peace.

I hope you don't lose your electricity! I am taken with the orange tree in the photo of you on the trail at Adams Falls. The boulders are so large there - you look so tiny! I also love the sunbeams. Great photos!

Hi betsy. Thanks for always visiting ny blog and leaving nice comments that warms my heart.
Anyway, those places are really worth visiting and I love your collages. I wonder how you do it. By machine or you make a scrapbooking album?
You are in my prayers.

Hi Betsy, that looks like a beautiful place to hike. And yes, it sure was nice that they named a waterfall after George! I love your collages and also the picture of you on the steps. Stay safe and warm this weekend. :)

I sure enjoyed your pictures today. They make me wish for warm weather so we can go hiking.

With all our trips to RMNP, we have not been to Adams Falls. Looks good. May need to check that out next time.
Hope you don't get the ice!

Hello Betsy, Glad you two are home safe and I pray you will be safe from the ice.
These are gorgeous photos. The sunbeams are so pretty and it's about time you two had a waterfall named after you! ha
Stay warm by the fire and enjoy your birds tomorrow.

Betsy, these are beautiful photos from your Rocky Mountain trip. So much to see there! I'm glad to hear you are safe and staying warm from the storm. I hope the ice melts quickly.

Sunbeams from Heaven is what I always think - lovely shots!
I'll take my snow over your ice any day. Ice certainly can do lots of damage.
Hope you and George have a wonderful weekend!

Your photos of the park are gorgeous Betsy. I know you and George had a wonderful trip. We live so close and have been over that way but did not get to RMNP. Maybe next trip.

I hope the ice storm isn't too bad. We have had freeing rain for a couple of days now but fortunately it has been light.

Happy Weekend!

Long long....LONG ago, in the mid 50s. I stood at the Continental Divide sign on Trail Ridge, signed my name on the sign, and Dad too my picture!!! Wow...to think it was more than half a century almost. Whoa.

Beautiful images of my 'home state' Betsy.

What magnificent sights of the beautiful Rockies you shared with us, Betsy.
I see George was in shorts so you two were a lot warmer then.
I hope you stay warm and the ice storm doesn't cause any harm to you nor others.
Hugs

Hope you all lucked out as we did from the ice storm that passed. We only got about 2/10ths inch of ice covering everything, not enough to break trees or bring power lines down thankfully.
I'm glad you found a waterfall named after you, that's neat !
Blessings

I just read your comment on Dee Ready's post and was deeply touched by it, so I thought I would let you know. I have had a lot of crazy experiences in my life, but never anything like the two of you experienced. So sad, particularly your mom's reaction. But I am so happy to see that all's well that ends well. George and you seem to have had a wonderful trip to the Rockies. And I also love the name of your blog. How great is that?! I am now going to sign up to become your latest follower.

Brilliant photos Betsy, and I love those collages, so neat! We have had a little snow but no real ice yet. That I do not like because I had some of my worst falls after an ice storm. You and George take good care of yourselves and stay warm :)

Your mountain photos are lovely! Hope you came through the ice storm OK. We had no problems - so glad!
