Pinnacle Overlook--Part II

If you did not see yesterday's post talking about the Pinnacle Overlook in Cumberland Gap, TN, click HERE. Today I am sharing another set of pictures from the Pinnacle. This sign above is not very good due to the shadows and angle, but I wanted you to see where the three states (TN, KY, VA) meet--on the mountain.

From where I stood to take this picture near the Pinnacle, we were in the state of Virginia... Amazing how we can put one foot in one state and another foot in another state!!!!! ha

Here is a picture of Fern Lake... Above the lake, to the left, somewhere on that mountain is where the three states meet. I'll bet they really struggled finding the boundaries, don't you????

This Ole' Virginia Gal was happy to be here. Since I was raised about 50 miles to the east of here in Big Stone Gap, VA, this almost felt like home. I had visited Cumberland Gap when I was a child, but really don't remember much about the area. I do know that I had a childhood friend who moved to Middlesboro, KY --and I lost track of her. Maybe if I mention her name (NITA CARNES), she will see this blog post and contact me... ha ha

George took this photo from the Pinnacle, of one of the buildings on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. This was quite a distance from where we were.

We didn't see much color while we were here, but I did notice some Fall color while we were at the Pinnacle. Pretty, isn't it? I can't wait until we have more color in our area.

I am fascinated by rocks/boulders ---and there were some beauties while we were at the Pinnacle. Do you want to stand under this 'leaning' rock????? ha ha

I love to look at big rocks and find shapes... What do you see in this one???? One thing which jumps out at me is the open mouth of an alligator... Can you see the top part of his open mouth sticking up????? ha ha

Tomorrow I will have one more set of photos from the Pinnacle, and they are my favorite ones since we went back up there at sunset.... SO--tune back in tomorrow for more!!!!!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Look what we had at our home last night. This is our first fire of the Fall season.. Yesterday was chilly and wet (although we got very very little rain)---so it was a perfect time to take the chill out of the house. YEAH---Fall is HERE.

Hope you have a great Tuesday.
Hugs,

I'm looking forward to kicking off the fireplace season, although I have a lot of wood splitting to do before then.

I was begging Larry for a fire this past weekend - it was chilly enough - but alas - I will have to wait. yours sure looks cozy.

Love the mountain photos! Makes me long for a visit, I live in such a flat area!

Have a wonderful day Betsy!

So happy you had such a wonderful trip. Am jealous of your fire though. LOL We had almost 6 inches of rain and I loved every drop. Not cool enough for a fire yet but soon, very soon. Have a blessed day!

Hi, Betsy. Thank you for sharing even more of the grandeur of our Lord's creation. Those boulders are most impressive.

Wonderful views from the Pinnacle and it must be magic when the trees are colourful. Glad to hear you are cooling off. The fire looks cosy. We are warming up too. It is just right at the moment, not too hot.

I've had one fire already too though now we are into a really warm week of weather. Enjoying your adventure to the Pinnacle.

Betsy I have enjoyed seeing all these beautiful pics from your trip. Love that header pic too.

Can't believe you had a fire going last night.

Love your pictures. Did you get to visit your home town while you were so close?

I would love to have my backside huddled up at the fire. We are having more seasonable temps now. So glad.

Love the new header.

Pinnacle is a lovely place to view God's handwork. It is neat how the boundries were drawn. I bet there was bloodshed caused by the boundries. Thanks for sharing. Hope you and George have a nice day.

Hi Betsy, What a great outing you had! The pictures give us readers a good idea of what the place really looks like - almost like being there ourselves. Outstanding history, geography, and nature all in one.

Have a wonderful day!

Oh what fun to travel around and see such wondorous sights. And then to share them with all of us.
Beautiful views. the colors are gradually coming out in the trees here too.
I too love huge boulders and our mountains out here are sometimes almost all rock. It amazes me how a trees can start in a tiny crevice and grow so huge. MB

P.S. The fall decorations on my blog are not mine but some we saw on our recent trip. Wish they were mine!

I love that area where the states meet! Sharyn McCrumb wrote "The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter" about that very area. I love that book. Check out your library. The title is the name of a mountain (maybe fictional but we do like to name our mountains).

I'll be back tomorrow!!

Best,
Bonnie

Isn't it nice to have the coolness of Fall? Texas has finally cooled down too, at least the northern part.

Your pictures are so beautiful, as usual. You are an excellent photographer, Betsy.

Love the fire! Haven't started a fire in my fireplace yet this season.

Blessings!

Love seeing the three states in the first picture. My favorite picture is the one of Fern Lake, but they are all beautiful. Even your fire picture, I love the colors!! How cool, we had to turn the heat on yesterday for the first time!! Of course, ours was air and yours was fire. Now we need to find someone with water!

Beautiful, Betsy. I'm amazed at your country with its many states. One day I'll get my head around them (Lol!) I LOVE rocks and yes, that one does look like an alligator ready to snap. Wow, your fireplace is drawing beautifully after the clean it had. Thanks for visiting my blog and your kind comments. I have a few more Prayer posts coming up. Yes, children in dire circumstances break my heart. I have a link to a new blog on my post tomorrow - back to son and dil in South Africa who have such a heart for orphans. We finally got some fall weather here in Houston and its is beautiful. That rock is so interesting and yes I see the alligator. Your imagination can create all kinds of creatures out of that.

If you look at that picture of LMU you can almost see a farm (upper right) that I used to work on a lot when I was a kid. Fern Lake supplies the water for Middlesboro. The park service is trying to buy it. They have most of the land around the lake now but someone still lives on the lake since it is privately owned. My mom and dad are buried probably 500-600 yards from that LMU building.

Last night was the first evening we cut the heat on, too. This is perfect weather - - days in the low seventies and cool nights - - my favorite time of year!

You say that rocks and boulders fascinate you, Betsy. Well, you and George have to come visit Bob and I. We'll show you some boulders. The best time to visit, though, is not in the winter. None of the places are open where the boulders are!

That fire looks so cozy.
I enjoyed reading about your adventure. The history of how the king declared the boundaries of the colonies is interesting. I guess he should have been a bit more specific so there would have been fewer disputes over the years.
From the pictures, it still looks wild and free. What a beautiful area. It must be gorgeous when the foliage turns red.

I like all those rocks and I do see the alligator. It looks like he just caught his dinner and it is really big.

I love views like that where several states can be seen. I just watched a special on how the states got their shapes, it was very interesting.

The fire place looks so pretty. Your weather cooled off and we are back in the eighties with near ninety expected for the weekend!
