The Historic Strasburg, VA Victorian Hotel |
I don't get paid by Groupon ---but I certainly do recommend them IF you travel and want a GOOD deal... Of the many, many deals we have had with Groupon, we have only had ONE bad experience which we do NOT recommend. (For your information, that was The Springmaid Mountain Resort, near Spruce Pine, North Caroina last August)... The neatest thing is that we get to stay in places that we have never heard of and would never have visited without this Groupon info/pricing.
The Strasburg Hotel (in the quaint little town of Strasburg, VA) is a great example. We had never heard of Strasburg ---but while reading the info about this little Victorian Inn, we decided to try it... Afterall, we love the Shenandoahs and wanted to go back to that area. It turned out to be a very good experience for us (from April 6-10, 2014).
Today, I'll share some of the photos (be sure to click on them for enlargements) from inside that Victorian hotel.... Of course the hotel was renovated (since the old building used to be a hospital) several years ago---and they have done a fabulous job of making it look like an old Victorian Hotel.

George sitting in our room at the hotel (Please excuse all of our 'stuff' around.) |
I will begin by showing you some photos from our room. We had a good sized room with a king bed. Some things which are different from most modern hotels/motels for us were:
-Our alarm clock was one of the old-fashioned ones that are not digital---so we couldn't see it at nights!!!! ha
-There were quite a few lamps in the room ---but the lighting was quite poor (like it used to be many years ago I'm sure).
- There was a phone in the room and a modern TV, but no microwaves, coffee pots, available ice machines, refrigerators---like most of us enjoy in newer hotels.
-NOTE: In this hotel, you ask the person at the front desk for some ice (or whatever you needed) and they gladly accomodated us! They also had coffee available most of the time.

The beautiful Wardrobe (Armoire) in our room |
|
Beautiful old dresser and mirror in our room |
|
How many new flatscreen TV's have you seen on top of an OLD sewing machine???? Talk about both the new and the old!!! ha |
|
Our King Bed --see the pretty quilt??? I LOVE quilts. |
|
A close-up of the quilt on our bed |
|
They kept all of the rooms (which were not being used) OPEN... SO I took a sneak peak at some of the other rooms... Love the head and foot board on this bed --and what a gorgeous quilt. |
|

|
A close-up of the quilt on that bed; This was my favorite of all of the quilts I saw in that hotel. |
|
Isn't this a pretty little wash basin? I love the colors. This was in our hall. |
|
Another one of the quilts in one of the rooms |
|
Isn't this blouse just gorgeous??? And to think --they were made by hand back then! |
|
Our Breakfast Room --on the first floor; The FREE brealfasts were excellent --and included bagels and croissants with various preserves and jams; coffee; orange juice; choice of cereals; fresh fruit and the best Apple Crumb Cake I've had in a long time!! |
|
I could not get a good angle of this portrait on the wall (due to the glare) --but I just had to show it to you. I LOVED this portrait of that old lady (who had probably worked very very hard her entire life). Isn't this just a marvelous portrayal of her? |
|
Beautiful old clock |
I left my very favorite thing 'til last... I wanted that clock SO BADLY. But--it was too big to fit into the Prius!!! ha.... I have ALWAYS wanted an old tall clock... Oh My Heart.
I have another post showing more from this hotel--but that will be at another time. Hope you enjoyed these antiques.... I'm old enough to remember seeing some of them in homes of my Great Aunts many years ago... So--this brought back memories.
Have a wonderful weekend --and I'll see you on Monday!
Hugs,

I sure wish I knew what happened to my grandmother's old sewing machine like that! What a lovely place, Betsy!
Happy Easter!
What a lovely old hotel.
It definitely looks Victorian, Betsy.
So pretty!
I had to laugh because we had our big screen TV on my old treadle machine cabinet for many years!
It is a pleasant surprise when your accommodation turns out good.
Betsy, what a lovely old hotel.. I love the quilt, just beautiful. Have a happy weekend!
I would LOVE to have that treadle machine for myself. That's the kind I learned with many moons ago.
It most definitely looks Victorian. Great antiques and the quilts are lovely.
Have a nice Easter ~ FlowerLady
HI Betsy Well that was a wonderful find of a hotel that you and George stayed in. I loved seeing all the antiques and somehow they have so much more character than the things that they have in hotels nowadays. I love the quirkiness of it all. Have a wonderful Easter.
What an interesting place. I know you and George enjoyed staying there.
Very nice. We're not used Groupon for any trips but have used them quit a bit for restaurants. I also use LivingSocial (https://www.livingsocial.com/), Amazon local and Goggle offers. :)
beautiful old building and i like the furniture
What a beautiful old Victorian house. I love all the old antiques and I too am old enough to remember
a lot of them. Thank you so much for sharing the photos with us. HAve a blessed Easter weekend.
We've stayed in so many inn, B & B's and hotels in Virginia. Most are beautiful, but you are right, one does have to understand the difference because of what is and is not offered in the rooms. I am a very light sleeper and learned a long time ago to carry a fan with me as most of these older places have VERY thin walls. The fan was the only way to block noise from other rooms. Works like a charm.
That was a marvelous hotel. I would be happy to go back even if it didn't have some of the modern conveniences.
Groupon is perfect for trying out new places without spending a fortune. Since we have two dogs and an RV we can't take advantage of most of the travel deals but I sure use them for restaurants and local entertainment. The Inn is beautiful. We live with all those modern conveniences - I think it's much more fun to take a vacation without them.
What a delightful old hotel! Love your pics as always -- the next best thing to being there myself!! Thanks for sharing the fun and the beauty!! Happy Easter, have a great weekend!
This looks like a wonderful place! I hope someday soon it is in our budget to take a trip - I will check out groupon for sure!
Betsy, Nice old hotel...B&B. This is exactly the kind of place that Laurie loves to stay in, while I prefer a nice Hampton Inn or Comfort Inn. I must admit that I have stayed at a couple of great little B&B's though...in New Zealand and Scotland. The last one we stayed at here in the USA was in Monterey VA and it was pretty good. In most cases, breakfast is far better than what's included at the hotel chains. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
I would love to see that place. And stay in there for forever.
Hi Betsy,
That was a beautiful old hotel. We stayed in a more modern "log cabin" hotel with all of the fancy doo-dad's last weekend and didn't use any of them.
I love the clock and the sewing machine. I used to have a machine like it from my Grandmother. Oh how I miss it. Such a beautifully historic place to lay your head. Thank you for sharing with us.
Blessings,
Betsy
I love the breakfast room, the white wrought iron bed, the wonderful old sewing machine table with the modern t.V. on it, the two green doors on either side of the clock. By the way, if you happened upon Lizzie Borden wandering around, I hope you said hi from me...
Looks like fun. We have some pieces like those, some of which we have tried to sell. No one seems to want the old, heavy pieces anymore.
I will keep Groupon in mind....I love all the antiques, funny to see flat screen on old sewing machine
Lovely :)
I liked the TV on the old fashioned sewing machine, lol !
Cool post !
Blessed Easter:)
Never used Groupon, I'll have to check them out
Such an adorable place to stay! I love antiques and this place would certainly make my heart sing. So nice to have places like this to go to and enjoy time away from home...
Happy "Good Friday"
Praying God's Blessings fill your home..

What really beautiful furnishings. Who needs a microwave if you have a clerk on tap.
You about have me convinced with Groupon. You should be paid.
Happy Easter Betsy and George.
What a beautiful old building, inside and out. A lovely place to stay.
Very cool. I love Victorians. That's why Ben and I used to visit the area around Eureka, CA all of the time. Beautiful buildings.
Looks like a really neat place, Betsy. You've found some good Groupons. Wishing you and George a blessed Easter!
Oh wow! All those antiques must have made it feel like you stepped back in time.
This is just the kind of place my hubby and I love staying at. Thank you for sharing. Such beautiful pieces of furniture and the quilts!
Very pretty place and I love the quilts, too. Wishing you two a blessed Easter weekend.
Very lovely old hotel, greeting from Belgium
Oh my goodness I love the Victorian hotel.I want to stay there. I have got to beg my hubby to make a trip there.
I have got that same singer sewing machine! That is so neat.
What a place. I enjoyed seeing it. I got a chuckle out of reading about the clock. That is why I depend on my iPhone for my clock at night. I can read it.
I wondered which one of you had to be the one to sleep next to the wall. I would have a hard time getting to my side of the bed if I were next to the wall. LOL
Happy Easter and thank you for your photo.
The quilt are very beautiful!

As soon as school is out in May, we hope to try some of these groupon deals.
Very Victorian (except maybe the flatscreen TV)and beautiful. We come to appreciate the quality of furniture from back then. Quilts are beautiful.
Thanks for the tour.
Happy Easter

So enjoyed seeing the hotel and the charming details, especially the quilts. I've got a much loved quilt of great vintage in my living room and I so enjoy seeing it every day.

I love this kind of travel experience! B&Bs with charming ambiance are wonderful! Glad you had a great trip! Hope your Easter was wonderful!
What an amazing place! Gorgeous photos, Betsy. I'll have to check Groupon next time we do a trip.
YOu and George take the best trips. We love going places with you! That really is a phenomenal find you discovered. I may have asked before - - - do you write reviews on TripAdvisor? Others would appreciate knowing about this place.
What a wonderful hotel Betsy, loved your photos. I coveted those quilts, and have always wanted a grandfather clock. I remember the old sewing machine table. My grandmother had one, along with an old clock and to this day I love the Westminster chimes and the loud ticking of an old-fashioned clock. Marvelous post!
We've been there for dinner. It's a nice place to take out-of-town visitors because the hotel lets you walk upstairs and look at the open rooms. Each room is a little different.
As I told George, we have a Strasburg mailing address but we live 5 miles north of there.
