Saturday Birds at My Feeders

Yesterday, the birds in my yard really entertained me... I sat on my throne (sofa) doing what I usually do (answering blog comments--ha) on my new laptop (named Polly).. The birds must have known that I was watching them because they were in and out of the feeder area all afternoon. I finally got the camera and took some pictures to share.

However, some of the busiest ones were moving so fast that I couldn't get a picture of them. SO--I'll at least tell you the different birds that did come to my feeders yesterday: Tufted Titmice, Carolina Chickadees, White-breasted Nuthatch, House Finches, Carolina Wrens, Goldfinches, Brown Thrashers, Northern Cardinals, Eastern Bluebirds, Mourning Doves, Bluejays, Hummingbirds, and Woodpeckers (Red-bellied, Red-headed, and Downy). Here are some pictures that I did manage to get, starting with a beautiful male Goldfinch above. More are below!!!!

This little female Cardinal sorta looks sad, doesn't she????? Such a gorgeous bird. This may be a juvenile---because I'm not sure when they develop their red beaks. Anyone know????

This is a juvenile Red-bellied Woodpecker (above). Now you can see the red belly!!!!!

Above is one of my fav's, one of our Brown Thrashers. This one obviously is a young one since he's smaller than some.

This Red-bellied above is really enjoying the suet. So many of my backyard birds LOVE the suet feeders. That's why I have two of them!!!

This beautiful Goldfinch loved to pose for the camera. He sat there for along time --and almost smiled at me.

The cute little Carolina Wren above was moving---but I finally got his picture (even if it is a tad blurry). Carolina Wrens sing loudly and their songs are beautiful. He loves to serenade me!!!!

This little guy is a Juvenile Red-bellied Woodpecker. He doesn't have much color on his head yet.

This cutie is a Downy Woodpecker. He was a small one --but I'm not sure he was an adult or a juvenile. Whatever, he is a beautiful little bird.

Here is a great picture of an adult male Red-bellied Woodpecker. These birds let everyone know when they come to the feeders. They chatter and chatter ---just like the Bluejays do. I only saw one Red-headed Woodpecker today--and couldn't get his picture.

I love this picture above of a Downy Woodpecker. Their black and white colors are so pretty I think.

Hope you had as nice a Saturday as I had. Our weather is like AUTUMN---and I love every minute of it. Hope it won't get hot again--but I need to remember that it's still AUGUST... ha

Have a great day.

Hugs,

The birds are really entertaining to watch. The wren is really comical to me. It seems so happy as it darts about chirping all the way! The goldfinches are just so colorful, aren't they? You have a good variety to enjoy on a pretty afternoon.

Wow, the variety of birds that come to your feeders is amazing, Betsy. They are lucky to have you and George as neighbors, I see you feed them very well...
Your photos are lovely, I would love to have them visit my yard :)))

You really have a variety Betsy. I don't think I would get much done with that group to watch. My Hummers keep me far too busy as it is.
We are having fall like weather also. 53 this AM. Love it.

Betsy! Girlie...I have a question to ask you. You love birds, and I love dogs. We post on those, respectively. My question, Does this mean that your blog has "flown south" and mine has "gone to the dogs"? lmao....just wanted to know. I love your birdie pics, by the way. I saw a red-headed woodpecker the other day, and caught a pic with my digital, but that didn't work. ha ha. I also caught a pic of 2 deer grazing in our garden, grrrrrrrr. However, they were not clear. I had to keep wiping the lenses of the camera, because of the heat. What I did catch of the deer, was fuzzy, another grrrrrowl. LOL..have a great day honey.

Beautiful pics of the birds. I love those darling Goldfinches!

And this cool weather is wonderful, isn't it?

What a great day to take birds pics. You sure do get a huge variety of our feathered friends. I love to watch the Violet-Green Swallows dive bomb into the pond or skim over the pond catching insects. Too fast for pictures. MB

Your bird feeders were very busy. I am having trouble keeping the birds out of the raspberries and off the chokecherry trees. My wife says when I feed the birds they come to eat everything. Great post.

What a wonderful collection of birds! They sure like the buffet you prepare for them! :D

Diane said...

You sure do have a lot of different kinds of birds in your area. Great pictures. It's so hard to get them when they're not on the fly.

thewriterslife said...

Oh Betsey! You have these birds right out your door?

A Brit in Tennessee said...

What a spectacular array of birds, I think word has gotten around to stop by Betsy and George's place...they offer an "All you can eat buffet "...
Loving this cooler weather !!

Your birds are wonderful. You have so many differant kinds.I put out a suet feeder after seeing yours, and the squrels had it empty in two days. The feed that I put in it was peanut butter. I think I will try something else. Our Steller Jays are back a sign of fall.

I love the cooler weather too. It could stay fallish for many months in my perfect world. Love your amazing bird photos... helps to see the beautiful detail of creation, up close...

The beak question stumped me Betsy. Remember now, I've only been birding 2 years. I must say you got a bigger variety of birds in one day than I get in my back yard all summer!

Nice to see your goldfinches! They don't come around very often here, and invariably it's when the feeders need filling, and they take right off! Errrgh!!

What a great way to spend some time on a Saturday, with Polly and the birds!

Delightful little wings to warm our hearts and soul! I love seeing that others spend as much money and time filling feeders as much as Mr. Natureboy and I do! I rest in my garden watching them but forget to bring the camera!!!!!
Next week I'll show some of my winged friends! hugs

I wonder what it costs to provide goodies for so many birds. Have you a budget?

You get such an amazing array of birds at your feeder! Great photos.

Tammie Lee said...

Gosh, you have had an amazing amount of visitors, such grand fun! Seems I have fewer and fewer birds daily. I am thinking the hummers are mostly gone too. Whispers of winter, but first fall.

Cheryl said...

Gosh the birds certainly love visiting with you, they certainly are spoiled by all the attention!
I have a goldfinch that seems to like posing for me on the birdbath. However whenever I get the camera out it isn't around!
Still humid here...but hard to imagine in a month we can start having chilly weather. Have a great week!

You have quite a crowd there Betsy!
A lot of activity here too, I think they were all enjoying the cooler weather. :)

You are an encyclopedia of Aviary Betsy. I enjoy their long names which I cannot guarantee of a good memory.

Polly surely loves sitting on the lap of someone who sat on her throne watching those adorables. :)

Hi Betsy...I think you have a female cardinal there. I believe a red beak indicates adulthood. You sure had a lot of activity at your feeders!! Love those thrashers too! It's so exciting to see all the juveniles, especially the juvenile Red-bellied Woodpecker!

Wendy said...

What a nice way to spend the day! You got some good bird pics too! I love the yellow ones. Reminds me of that song "yellow bird up high in banana tree!" Ha!
That dear little cardinal does look sad, poor thing.
But the others look happy - or at least busy!
Happy Sunday!

I love the red bellied! Especially when they make that "barking" dog sound to let all the birds know they've arrived!
