Mormon Tabernacle Choir

About this time in 2007, George's sister gave us tickets (8 of us in the Adams' family) to attend the Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert in Nashville. WOW---what an incredible concert!!! I could have sat there and listened to them sing for hours and hours and hours. It was truly awesome, and brought back so many memories of my younger days singing in choirs like this one.

They sang one of my favorite songs, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." They even sang the exact same arrangement that I used to sing and that I love so much!!!! I was in heaven!!!! SO---on this day BEFORE the Fourth of July, I can't think of a better way to wish you a wonderful 4th --than to close this post with the words to "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

"The Battle Hymn of The Republic"
Words by Julia Ward Howe and Music by Phillip Simonds

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored.
He has loosed the fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword.
His truth is marching on.

CHORUS: Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps.
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps.
l can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps.
His day is marching on. (Repeat CHORUS)

ln the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea.
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me.
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free.
While God is marching on. (Repeat CHORUS)

UPDATE: Mom and Dad Brown Thrasher are still feeding the babies constantly---back and forth ALL day long!!!! They won't let us anywhere near that Jasmine bush right now. See that delicious lunch in the Thrasher's mouth... Those babies are crying for THAT... Think I'd rather have a burger!!!!! We're going to be out-of-town today ALL day---so I'll bet the birds fledge while we're gone. Darn!!!!!

Have a safe and wonderful 4th of July!!!! May God Bless You--and God Bless America!
Hugs,

When I was in high school I sang in our mixed chorus. So I went out and bought an album (33 1/3 rpm..remember those?) of the Mormon choir. I used to sing along and search for the 2nd alto or tenor parts. Loved them. Still have the album but have nothing to play it on now. How wonderful to see them in person! The members have changed but I'll bet the sound is the same.

We saw the Mormon Tabernacle Choir do a practice in Temple Square, in downtown Salt Lake. Even in practice they were impressive.
Hope the fledglings hold off until you're home to see, but mom and dad probably won't let you have much of a view anyway.
My swallows are still flying in and out of the nest, but I haven't seen any chicklings or heard any peeps. The eggs should have hatched weeks ago... maybe they didn't make it.

I do hope that your baby birds wait for your return before they try to fly away.

Oh, when we raised Cheep-cheep the robin, if I ran out of night crawlers, I actually did give him a bit of hamburger now and then!

I would give my right arm to hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I can quite understand you must have been in heaven. I would be too!

That wonderful song will resonate in my heart all day!! I love singing it for it is totally amazing that HIS truth IS marching on. The enemy of our soul is a liar, but God's Truth will prevail! Glory, glory, hallelujah!

I do hope the little family in the Jasmin Bush will wait for you and parade their offspring with pride - just for you!

May you totally enjoy this day to the fullest! May your strong Independence as a country come from a total dependence on God is my prayer and wish for you and for us all. Special thanks to those who daily put their lives in God's hands so that we can all live in freedom!

Betsy, can you still sing? I used to sing when I was growing up, and I quit. Now I cannot carry a tune. I wish I had never stopped singing! My heart and soul still sings, but nothing comes out of my mouth! LOL

It was early Dec. 1998 when I flew to Salt Lake to drive back here with Dean to start our life together, His mom ask us to attend service with her at the Tabernacle on Sunday morning before we left hat afernoon. We had the honor of hearing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir do several Christmas songs. I have always been so happy that we attened services that day, as it was the last time we saw his mom....She died a couple of years later, and I know how much it meant to her to have her son and I at church that day.
Although I am not of that faith and my husband has not participated in it for many many years, the experience was one I enjoyed and I am glad we were able to share this time with his mom.
