Last week, I posted our inside Autumn Decorations here at our home. If you missed that post, you can see it by clicking HERE. Today I will share some of what Autumn looks like outside in our yard. Above is a picture of our home --taken from the street. You can see one of our pumpkins --and a little decoration on the front porch. Below are more.
Here is a close-up of our little Miss Autumn sitting on our front porch . She has been with us for several years ---and truly needs a complete make-over.. BUT--when I think about replacing her, she cries and begs to stay with us for at least one more year.....
This is Miss Autumn's brother, Billy Bob... He also has been with us for many years ---and even though he is faded and held together with some safety pins, he also begs to stay in our yard another year... He loves to relax on the flagpole. Think he'll make it one more year?????? I hope so!!!!
We don't have too much Fall color yet --although it seems to get a little prettier everyday. Here is a picture of the Sumac near our home. I love the REDS of Autumn.. This one is pretty!
Another pretty tree in our yard is our Pink Dogwood. It just seems to get more gorgeous every day. I love the red berries.
Here is a picture of our front yard taken on Oct. 5. Now you need to note the picture below. We are beginning to get some color now!!!! On Oct. 5, you can see very little color in the big trees behind the house --but thankfully, we will continue to get more colorful, as we go through this next week or two. The roses are still blooming --and other than some cool nights, it still feels alot like Summer here. AND--might I add that it has been extremely DRY.
I will finish with a picture taken by George on Saturday, Oct. 9, of the big trees behind our house... You can tell when comparing this picture to the picture above that the trees are beginning to change colors here. Yeah!!!!!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hope you had a good weekend. We spent most of the weekend working in the yard. I must have raked up and picked up a million (or more) Chestnut Oak nuts in our front yard... AND--they are still pouring down!!!! (Feels really 'good' when one of those nuts hits me on the head!!!!! Yipes!)
IF the old statement that a large mast crop means a harsh winter is TRUE, we will have a doozy of a winter here... I cannot tell you how many nuts there are --but the ground is COVERED. As I said, the 'nuts' are winning---and I don't mean this ole' female Nut..... Tee Hee!!
Hugs,
Your home looks beautiful Betsy. I love your decorations and the colorful roses are so pretty too! The red berries and the blue sky are just so pretty. Hope you'll get some rain soon. Watch out for those nuts falling. Maybe you'll get your big snow this Winter!
ReplyDeleteScarecrows are supposed to look worn and a bit tattered---that's their persona. Yours are adorable and I'm glad you gave in to their begging.
ReplyDeleteYour house looks lovely and makes me yearn for this next house of ours--we're currently looking.
Love the reds of those two trees---simply beautiful.
Wonderful post, friend.
I love your scarecrows and think they deserve to stay!!! Staying ahead of the leaves and nuts is a tough job..good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have black walnut trees and it is dangerous to walk under them, if they miss your head you'll probably turn an ankle when you step on them...soon I'll have to pick them all up...but try to wait till most of them have fallen!!! Brain concussions tend to slow me down:-)
Have a wonderful week Betsy!!!
Love the colors and your decorations. I am with you on the nuts - we seem to have an overabundance of very large acorns this year!
ReplyDeleteJane
Your fall decorations are just precious, especially the little scarecrows, which I'm partial to....
ReplyDeleteDo you think we'll ever get some rain before winter ?
Everything is dry and crunchy, we have fire bans on right now, and I'm afraid all those lovely fall colors we are so accustomed to, are going to just fall right off the trees before they have a chance to turn.
On the up side, we've havd some gorgeous weather.
You have such a lovely home !
Beautiful home!! I feel bad for not decorating mine!!
ReplyDeleteI remember last year we didn't get much color at all in the trees and bushes around here. Everything kind of turned yellow and brown and then it was over. Even my fire bushes were a no show. This year "God's Fireworks" as my husband calls autumn colors - are just beautiful here in Western New York. I have to wonder if it is because of the rain that we got thru out the summer (last year was dry).
It is funny though - in some places everything is still green, one street over all the leaves are gone and another street over we have gorgeous color!
I am curious to see if you get LOTS of color - after having such a dry summer.
Enjoy the day!! I love 3 day weekends!!
Thanks for the visit to your yard.I love how the house is nestled in the trees.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,Ruth
Bev likes to do a little fall decorating but it's hard to compete with the decorations Mother Nature puts out. A writer in the local paper did an article on the heavy amount of mast available this year, so hopefully the bears can go to den fat and happy and stay away from bird feeders and garbage cans.
ReplyDeleteI do so love the colors of Fall, I too love your scarecrows. Have a beautiful week...m..
ReplyDeleteMiss Autumn and Billy Bob look like perfectly respectable scare crows to me. Such personality.
ReplyDeleteYou and I are pretty much in the same stage of Fall. Next week should be time for the leisurely drive to gawk.
You house always looks so neat and pretty.
I think your decorations are just perfect the way they are!!! very pretty.
ReplyDeleteWe have a small amount of color in some areas....drought is making for a drab fall....
Love your pictures! Great post.
ReplyDeleteI like your decorations, Betsy. Soon you'll have color everywhere! I love your header picture--it's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI think those cute little scarecrows have many more autumns in them. I say keep them!
ReplyDeleteWe are still waiting for more color and it's beginning to come. Yesterday, our ac came on! When I looked at the outside temperature, it was 90!!! Unheard of here.
Best,
Bonnie
Looks Like Fall has fallen around your beautiful home. I'm Back from my 3 days off and i missed blogging a lot.
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy, Your home is beautiful inside and out. I have acorns all over my yard and the squirrels are really busy hiding them in all my flower pots. I worked in the yard this weekend, too. I just wish we would get some rain. My yard is like a dust bowl. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteOh I love fall and all the colors it brings. At work we have some beautiful flowers and decorations.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately our leaves are just dying and falling off the trees. At least we have been having some beautiful skies too.
Miss Autumn and Billy Bob are so cute, believe I would just keep patching them up! Your yard looks lovely, just the right amount of decoration - without getting carried away.
ReplyDeleteWe actually have pecans this year - yep, going to be a long, harsh winter!
I love the colors of Fall. Your picture of the Dogwood berries is very nice. I am glad you gave into the dollies begging. YES keep them another year and more!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have a very nice home. MB
Your place is beautifully decorated - inside and out - and I'm glad Miss Autumn and Billy Bob love hanging around. God's fall decorations are simply gorgeous; love the berries on that dogwood. Sure hope with you for rain to soak everything in before winter comes! Have yourselves a lovely week you two!!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! I love the reds of fall too!.. Sit back and enjoy nature do what she does best!
ReplyDeleteI love autumn! I always have. I used to look forward to it as a child and who cared about what followed autumn when you were a mere child. As an adult I still looked forward to it. And I loved wintertime and snow.
ReplyDeleteUntil January.
Hi Betsy, I like your yard a lot! I hope we don't have a harsh Winter like we say last year. I am rooting for mild in spite of the "Acorn signs". Have a wonderful day today!
ReplyDeleteIt really is beginning to look Fallish around your area. Beautiful. I'm a little concerned about another harsh winter myself.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you have given Miss Autumn and Billy Bob such a nice home. I hope they can stay for many more years. Your yard is so very pretty. I have heard that if there are lots of fallen acorns that it will be a harsh winter, last year we had tons of them but had a light winter! So far the acorns haven't fallen as much so we can only hope we have a really light winter here in New England! The red leaves are just stunning!
ReplyDeletethanks for the photos of your house outside with decorations. i'm gad you are keeping the boy and girl decoration. faded, maybe but looks like it's their home. thanks for your comment on my blog re imagination. there is no doubt that your photography is one of your many talents. have a good day rose
ReplyDeleteNice decorations. I have not even started! I was going to do it with my grandson and got too busy baking pies. Our dogwoods are barely surviving because of the drought we had this summer, but they may look nicer later.
ReplyDeleteCute fall decorations, Betsy and I love the fall colors and foilage. I once knew an older lady who everytime she would pass around the nuts she'd say - "Here have a nut, nuts to the nuts!" Diane
ReplyDeleteNice place you have. Is there any use for the chestnut oak nuts?
ReplyDeleteYou are so good about decorating. I'm not.
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing that the signs are there for a harsh winter -- so I'll be keeping note to see! We could use a good snow pack here but I do hope it doesn't get too cold!!
You're making me laugh now! You have just the right amount of decorations at your house! Can you leave Miss and Mr. autumn out in the rain? They are cute!
ReplyDeleteI like your decorations for Fall and would keep them until they fall apart!!
ReplyDeleteYou have beautiful fall colors showing up already, my parents are heading east today, probally driving thru your area now as I typr this post. Looking for fall colors and enjoying the weather.
ReplyDeleteLarge mast crop here as well. Great for the bears and other animals and I do hope it does not signal a harsh winter. I'll wait for the woolly worm prediction.
ReplyDeleteWe're still sunny and 70. Just like it has been since June:) It is really weird how the weather never changes around here!
ReplyDeleteAhh yes! The beauty of Autumn. Now if someone would figure out a way to make the fronds on all the palm trees around here to change color...
ReplyDeleteThe only difference between autumn and summer here, is that the days are shorter...
nice photos Betsy!
Pretty pretty pretty pics, Betsy & I love LiL Miss Autumn & Billy Bob! They'll make it, so keep em - they love it there w/ you & George!!! =)
ReplyDeleteYour scarecrow people are really cute, and I think they have a few years in them still.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the squirrels when you need them??? Hello? Free nUtS!!
You have a fantastic home Betsy and I love the way you have decorated. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYour house ius so pretty and looks so festive with Miss Autumn and Billy Bob holding the pumpkins so well! I think their cousins live at my house and want to hang on here too! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope the extra windfall of nuts does not mean a bad winter, Betsy! Maybe Mother nature was just being extra generous to the squirrels this year?
♥ Pat
Well fall has come to your place, hasn't it?
ReplyDeleteSome of the maples here are beautiful reds and oranges. I notice, though, that the many of the pin oak and sycamore leaves have just turned brown and fallen off. Not a big surprise about the sycamores as we find them to be real trash trees. Not my favorite...
Autumn is so lovely at your place, Becky.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my book giveaways.
Betsy, Your scarecrow looks happy to be surrounded by his pumpkin patch. I hope he keeps the little critter from eating holes in the pumpkin faces.
ReplyDeleteLove This post Betsy, scarecrows and trees decorations.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos + your wonderful Autumn Header.
It's looking more like Autumn all the time. Tell George I like the flag pole :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the scarecrows. My friend and I are going to our local pumpkin patch on Wednesday so I'll have to photos to share.
ReplyDeleteKay
Great fall pictures of a picturesque home! Of course the color in the leaves and a nip in the night air makes everything prettier! Thanks for sharing your home and the beautiful flowers with us.
ReplyDeleteI love your treasured scarecrows just as they are!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for the beautiful time I had!!
I like your scarecrows too! They really are adorable. Looks like you are all ready for autumn. Pretty colours, blue skies. Love that dogwood.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like your yard is starting to get a little color, I can barely see traces in ours so far.
ReplyDeleteI think Miss Autumn and Billy Bob have several more autumns to give plus they are so cute. Your house looks great, just the right amount of decorations.
Oh those fall decorations are oh so cute Betsy!!! But I must admit ~ I am a little more partial to Christmas decorations ~ and they will be coming soon won't they!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have the loveliest of weeks Betsy!
xo Catherine
oooh..i love Miss Autumn and her brother... so nicely made, i can tell..
ReplyDeletehave a nice wonderful autumn!!
When the nuts hit our roof, they sound a lot like a baseball hitting the house - - - - and then they roll and roll off the roof. This goes on all day - - - but we are at work and only hear them on the weekends! My husband is painting our house and it will look similar to yours - - - but did not know that when we picked the paint. He has just started it this month.
ReplyDeleteBetsy: We are definetly moving into the Fall season and you have great decoration.
ReplyDeletehaha! You made me laugh with the Chestnut Oak nut landing on your head....ouch! You'll have to wear a helmet.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed all the acorns and walnuts ,guess we'll see who knows best, the old timers who said that means a harsh winter or the new fangled weather predictors that say we'll have a mild winter this year. Only time will tell !!!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed tomorrow
Marilyn
Your home and decorations are beautiful Betsy. The colours of fall are stunning in your world. Can you do anything with the nuts? This is my last visit from North Africa (sad!) I'll be online in South Africa in about two days't time. Thanks for your encouraging and kind comments on my posts and for our travels. Blessings and hugs Jo
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud and had to show Bob "Billy Bob". Bob's nickname among his motorcycle buddies is "Billy Bob"!
ReplyDeleteThere you are so dry and colourful while we are wet and dull. Keep your cute Autumn characters being a bit ol and tatty suits the season.
ReplyDeleteoh those fall decorations... i prefer them than the usual spooky Halloween decor. I love orange and pumpkin.
