Looking Glass Falls
On our December trip to the Brevard, NC area, one waterfall which we visited again was LOOKING GLASS FALLS (pictured above). Anyone who has ever been to the Brevard area has probably seen this waterfall since it is right beside the road. NO hiking is required!!!!! AND---it's a gorgeous waterfall to see during any season.
This time was the first time we have seen it so icy. We walked down the steps to get closer--and we felt the mist and ICE as we got closer to the bottom. George made it to the bottom--but I stopped and held onto the side railings.... Hope you enjoy our pictures of and around Looking Glass Falls.
This was taken across the road from the waterfall.
Here's one more picture of the falls --taken from the top/road.
Yes, it was a cold December day in North Carolina with temperatures in the 20's. I have to laugh now as I write this because the temperatures here at home have been much lower than they were when we were on that trip in December. Our lows have been in the single digits and the highs in the low 20's for several days now... Brrrrrrr!!!
Today---as you read this, we may or may not have SNOW here in our part of TN. I'll keep you posted---but usually, when 'they' predict it, we don't get it... I hope we do---but I'm not holding my breath!!!!
Have a great Thursday!!!
Hugs,
Such lovely photos! I really do like seeing pictures of snow, but don't want to be in it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely waterfall! Very nice!!
ReplyDeleteYou got some very nice photographs of a beautiful spot in paradise. Patty and I were there once on our only trip to the area. It was a long time ago when we thought about moving to Tryon.
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures of the ice. I'm fascinated by ice and really enjoy photography it.
ReplyDeleteNicely done!
Very nice photos of the falls and icicles Betsy. I love the photo of you all bundled up with the scarf, so cute!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that photo of you, you look like a little elf!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, Betsy, but it does look cold. Brrr!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could send you some of our snow, I'm kind of tired of it!
Stay warm.
Sunny :)
Very, very nice photos of the falls and all the ice....brrrrrrr.
ReplyDeleteYou can have all of snow. :) We're suppose to get 3-5 inches. There's probably close to an inch on the ground now.
Lovely pictures but I don't think I would have ventured even as far as you did because it looks very slippery!!
ReplyDeleteThe older I get the more I worry about breaking bones!!
Beautiful photos of Looking Glass Falls, Betsy! Looking at them does make me feel a little cold, though, which isn't hard to do since it's 16 degrees this morning. I hope you get your snow---looks like there's a good chance for it this time. We're supposed to get several inches. At least, our electricity should stay on this time. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a spectacular falls.
ReplyDeleteLove the shots of the icicles, and the ice covered tree.
You and George do seem to have a knack for seeking out the BEST falls, and lucky for us, that you choose to share your pictures.
Are we ever going to get snow ?
None this way yeat ;(
Lovely pics of the COLD...brrrrrrrrr...you and George at least were dressed for the occasion lol...heavy coats..and a smile. Beautiful waterfall, Betsy, and even beautiful ICYCLES!!
ReplyDeletelovely photos, as always. really like that one of you all wrapped up :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your pictures. Hope we do get the snow! "They" have changed the forcast several times, it will be here by 9, then by 12, then 3, then 5, well we may get a dusting this evening. I'm so disappointed.
ReplyDeleteour cold wave continues, 28 this am and our airport had 3 flights yesterday that were delayed due to ice on the wings. No de-icer since we don't get ice. ha ha on that one. I actually felt even colder sitting here in my fluffy socks as i looked at your beautiful icy photos. they are all great and i would have a hard time picking a favorite. hope you are not frozen today.
ReplyDeleteSpectacular photos of the falls and the ice, Betsy. Hope you get the snow you want. I'd be happy to send you any we get if only I could! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's snowing here this morning Betsy! We are supposed to get 4 inches. We are in the teens here, too, and zero for the weekend. I love your NC pictures and I enjoyed the birds in your last post. The ice really is pretty but I'm ready for warmer weather.
ReplyDeleteIce can be both beautiful and deadly,... in the case of your photos it's totally beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBRRRRRR....THAT LOOKS COLD. And beautiful. I have seen this one, but thankfully, it was summer time.
ReplyDeleteHey, I've stood right there a couple of years ago!!! It was cool and windy when we were there. Great pictures of this beautiful waterfall!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Looking Glass Falls is REALLY iced over now. We've had two weeks of very low temperatures. Hope I can make it out there before the thaw. It is truly spectacular. Nice photographs of the freezing areas.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is really spectacular with all the icicles! Beautiful shots.
ReplyDeleteThe ice is beautiful! Brrr! George needs some gloves...his hands look cold!
ReplyDeleteHey Betsy, I love these icy pics. Looks cold but beautiful. Just wondering if you did get snow. Right now it is very grey and rainy here. Hope we don't get ice.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I'd want to hike in really cold weather, but I see I'm missing some really beautiful sites. Beautiful photos Betsy.
ReplyDeleteWow...I just love the photos and wish I could blink myself there. Such a beautiful state. I was there once several summers ago and loved it. Yes! I could live there.
ReplyDeleteIt looks icy cold!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, I really think you could publish a coffee table book of US waterfalls and US birds too!
Such beauty Betsy, I love waterfalls also.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see these icy photos from the comfort and warmth of home. Thanks for sharing ;-)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
Those trees are beautiful coated with ice. I would not have gone down those treacherous, icy stairs either.
ReplyDeleteMarnie
Hi Betsy,
ReplyDeleteI love the new photo of the male bird at your feeder on your header.
Also love this waterfall. How many falls are in the area where you live?
More gorgeous photos!
ReplyDeleteAs I'm typing this here in Knoxville (at work - sssshhhh!), I am seeing flurries, so girlfriend, I imagine you're seeing a bit more than me right now!
Stay warm!
I'll bet the stairs to the falls were very slippery. Hope George was careful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. Waterfalls are impressive, no matter the season.
I like the icy look at the falls.I'm sure it is lovely anytime, but this gives it a special charm. You are brave souls to be at the falls in cold temperatures.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,Ruth
Those branches covered in ice are spectacular. But I'd be too afrid to climb down in all that ice too!
ReplyDeleteThe ice looks so beautiful hanging off the trees and everything. I guess it shouldn't surprise me that you and George are out waterfalling in the winter. I hope you get some snow. :)
ReplyDeleteEvery waterfall has its own unique beauty! I loved those snow covered branches too! Right now it is snowing at our downstate home - we're suppose to get 3-6 inches - looks very pretty! I wish I could box some up to send to you!
ReplyDelete:-)
Your pictures are so pretty, especially with the ice crystals and icicles on everything. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLove the ice on the branches! that always amazes me.
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
Oh my that is gorgeous. You also got some very goos pictures of the frost and icicles. Great job. I get so excited seeing through your eyes,. MB
ReplyDeleteA great post Betsy with some incredible photos and always lovely to see ones of you and George :)
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy, I love your wintery pictures. The icicles are fantastic and the waterfall looks great. You are lucky to have so many lovely places to hike.
ReplyDeleteOh the header photo is so nice Betsy!! So cheerful!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos you've taken. The ice is so beautiful and I am amazed by all the branches covered from tip to end! I bet it was absolutely stunning to see in person.
I know what you mean about single digits - It's 4 degrees here right now in Se Mo & a tad bit of snow on the ground, although the temp had to rise yesterday for the snow to fall.
ReplyDeleteThe 1st thing that comes to mind when I see your photos here is, "I'm so glad you two were careful in the trek to this waterfall, even though it was by the road."
Beautiful photo captures!
Brrrrrrr. That looks cold! We got a little snow today but now it's all ice!!! Be careful out there!! xo
ReplyDeleteBetsy, our predicted snow for today turned out to be just a light dusting...but it is 15 degrees now...gonna be a cooolllldddd night tonight...
ReplyDeleteLove those waterfall photos...the icicles are magic...admire the two of you for braving the cold to see that beautiful waterfall!!!
Interesting shots in the cold. Falls with ice. Makes me cold just thinking about it, however.
ReplyDeleteNow that's 'slippery when wet'!
ReplyDeleteHope you got some flakes today that mean something.
3+ inches at home in KY--I hope it's gone by the time I get there. :)
Hello Betsy,
ReplyDeleteI love these photos..love all the ice formations.
It's snowing over here..started around 3pm today and the wind is blowing!! brrrrrrr Extremely cold temps for highs and lows for well over a week now..it's a good thing we put that pellet stove downstairs. With this extreme cold the electric heat is battling to keep all three levels at the set temp..so having the pellet stove allows that thermostat down there to be set so it doesn't run.
Oh, and we decided to put our DutchWest woodstove in the great room to help us get off the electric heat a bit....We are gonna be in hock to TVA for an amount the we don't want to see!! So maybe by the end of this month the stove will be installed.
Thomas is in Memphis and they are having the coldest temps in 25 years...the heater in his apartment is NOT keeping him warm..I'm glad I remembered to send the electric blanket back with hime...tonight he had on two pair of sweatpants, sweatshirt, two pair of socks...good grief, it's got to warm up soon! Looks like Monday the heat wave of the 40's will greet us. YAY!!
Thanks for coming by for a visit...and no, that sweet curly headed girl isn't me. :0) She's just one of many of my vintage images I play with. I seem to finally be getting in the groove to work on collages this year...I love the process.
Y'all stay warm and I'll send some of my snow in your direction!
Steph

ReplyDeletehappy january.
Now those are wonderful shots! What with smiling faces to make the chills go away!
ReplyDeleteBeauty of photography especially the outdoor and nature combine.

Ma'am Betsy, could you please visit mine here?
Thank you for your sweetness. :)
