How Can This Be??????

See that picture above?????? I took this picture of one of our clocks at about 3:12 p.m. yesterday ---on JULY 18. Now look at the picture below.

This is the big thermometer we have on our deck. Can you see the temperature????? It says 68 degrees!!!! NOW---put that together with the time. In the middle of Summer here on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee, on July 18th at 3:11 p.m. in the afternoon, the temperature here was only SIXTY-EIGHT degrees. WOW---isn't that totally amazing??????

I've heard from several bloggers who are THRILLED to have a cold front in the middle of summer. Now I can add to that------ ME TOO!!!! I LOVE it. I'm not one who enjoys hot weather---so this is like a piece of heaven to me. I wish I could bottle it --and keep it for the rest of the summer!!!!!

When I woke up this morning, I immediately put on some long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Later on, I was still cool----so I put on some heavy socks. AND---tonight, they say we may have a record low temperature here. Brrrrrrr!!!! Isn't it wonderful?????? (Okay---remind me of this when I'm complaining the middle of August that it is too darn HOT!!!! ha)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

My son took this picture of Grammy with two of her grandchildren---when they visited us on Wednesday. I've already posted about this fun day---but didn't have this picture at the time. SO---I thought I'd show it today to let you know what a proud Grammy I am!!!!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Finally, please pray for a very very very good friend of mine, Thomas A. Dunbar, from Louisiana. Tommy had a serious stroke yesterday and is in the hospital in Baton Rouge. Good thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated. He and his wife are so special to me.

Have a great Sunday.
Hugs,

  1. I'm loving this unusual summer (as is my electric bill!). The only downside is that my veggies aren't really ripening.....but I'll survive.

What lovely grandchildren, know you are so proud!

  2. Betsy: We have the same cold front up here yesterday but I wore shorts and a t-shirt. It was nice to get the cool weather.
The picture of the proud grammy was neat.
Let us hope Thomas does well.

  4. We get so much cold weather Sept - June here in the far north of NY that I'd really like a little warmer ... and dryer weather than we are getting. Oh well, maybe in August? We can't seem to see the end to all the rain!

  5. prayers going up. loving the temps here too!

  6. Betsy, we are going through the same thing. I currently have all the windows open in the house, and the AC is off, and it's 68 in the house!! We are having record lows here right now, I love it!! July, in the South? Yay!!!!

I was just checking in with you, to see that you are okay, I noticed I lost you as a follower, so I wanted to make certain you're still here. Glad you guys are also enjoying the unexpected cool weather, doesn't it just lift your mood? I love it!!!!!!!

    Have a nice weekend.

  8. We, too, are LOVING these temps and lo humidity..but it makes me a little iffy about what is coming this winter?? Change is in the air..but will we continue to love it...

  9. Sixty eight degrees sounds delightful! Our low today is 80. Thinking of Thomas and his family.

  10. This is just wonderful weather. I will take all of it I can get. It does kind of make you wonder what winter will be like.
I heard that the warming melts the artic ice, cooling the Gulf Stream which is what moderates our temperatures. Last time this happened, there was a mini ice age in the mid 17th century.
We are not there yet so I plan to just enjoy these Fall like mornings.
Thomas and his wife are in my prayers.

  11. That is perfect short sleeve weather here. Our summer consists of low to mid 70s and a day or two, here and there warmer. At least on the west side of the mountains. East side 90s. The cool marine air does it for us.

    Sweet family. MB

  14. Hi, Betsy. We had the same cold front pass through here in the North Carolina mountains, and it is delightful. My hot coffee tasted so good this morning.

I love that picture of you with your grandchildren. I can see the love.

I have said a prayer this very moment for your friend Tommy and will continue to remember him. May God bless him and his wife.

  15. I too, like cooler rather than hotter!

It got down to 6C here last night ... the coolest it has been for a while.

Mingus and I are going camping with my friend up in Quesnel tomorrow so no computer for me for a while. This will be yet a new experience for the little guy.

  18. I will pray for Tommy. I love the photo with the grandchildren and I can certainly tell how proud you are of them. It was 53 degrees here this morning! I love it, too, but don't want it to get any cooler than it is now. I love the few days of cool weather though.

  20. Special prayers for Tommy. I'll sned his name to my prayer partners asap. The weather is nicer than any time I can remember. Windows wide open and the two nests on the front porch are filling the inside with loud and continuous callings from the four babies. The carolina wren baby is so loud its quite amazing.

  29. Your friend is in my prayers, Betsy.

Yes! Loving the cooler weather. When I went out this morning before heading to church to check the feeders and refresh the bird bath, it was just 65. Almost wanted to just stay in the yard and enjoy sniffing cool air.

Don't worry... it will soon pass... unfortunately!

  35. LOL Betsy, you are so funny!! I too like temps that are not too warm. My favorites are those in the 70's. Anything over that and I usually complain!

I will pray for your dear friend. I hope he recovers well.

  36. PS - forgot to mention that it's been in the mid to high 90's here, everyday for about 2 months now. Even had a few days when it reached 100 and 101. Enjoy the cool!!!

  48. We have been in the low 70's here and then the 50's at night. The Weather Channel says that many of the Northeastern states will be pretty mild all summer.

For us, we had a really early summer in the spring, now we are finishing spring in summer. El Nino has returned.

Love the picture of you with the grandchildren.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It has been a fairly mild summer here all along so far this year, Betsy. Of course, we live farther north than you do, but it really has been quite pleasant.
