US at UNDINE FALLS, 9/10/18 (See picture below for a better picture of the falls.) |
Dear Friends, Gee Whiz ---where has September gone???? I know we were out west for 12 days --but that's less than half of a month... I'm here to tell you that GOING on a trip is fabulous (and we go-go-go almost the entire time)... Then when we COME HOME---we are hoping for some rest!!!!! HA HA---that just doesn't seem to happen... There's so much to do here once we do get home --and never enough time!!!!! Then we added another short trip to Biltmore after getting home. And 'they' said that retirement was to be SIMPLE and EASY...... Well---we make these choices to go-go-go --and one thing is for sure: we are never bored!!!!! ha
I haven't had much time to work on our pictures from our latest West Trip ---but have taken time to add one picture each day on Facebook. SO--I hope you are seeing those!!!!! It is fun picking out only one picture from each of the days we are there---but it's also fun putting together a blog post with more pictures and more explanations...
Our trip did not start out to be a "Waterfall Trip" ---but we did manage to see 16 different waterfalls/cascades along the way... IF you love waterfalls and have not been to Yellowstone, then you MUST visit there to see these beauties... Yellowstone is a waterfall-lover's dream place!!!! BUT--as you will see, we saw other waterfalls along the way...
Hope you enjoy all of these pictures today. It was fun searching through all of my many, many photos looking for the best pictures I had to share....The names of the waterfalls and the dates we were there are listed... ENJOY!!!
By the way, you will note my wind-blown hair in the top picture.... Notice anything else???? At age 76, I have finally quit coloring my hair. I hope it turns snow white --like my Mama's hair and my oldest son's hair. BUT I have a feeling it is going to be ugly gray!!!! Oh Well!!!! My hair as a young person was light brown. When George married me, I was a blonde... Wonder if he'll keep me now that I'm GRAY and an OLD woman!!!!!!!!??????? Yipes.

|
TOWER FALLS in Yellowstone, 9/10/18 (We had hoped to hike down to the bottom --but even after 6 years, the trail is still NOT open!!!!) |
|
LEWIS FALLS in Yellowstone, 9/12/18 (George has a better picture of this one I'm sure since he walked across the bridge and down on the other side to get a better view.) |

BRIDAL VEIL FALLS, Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota, 9/9/18 |
|
VIRGINIA CASCADES in Yellowstone, 9/12/18 |
|
Another surprise--just off of Highway 212 near Cooke City, Montana; This is LAKE CREEK FALLS, taken on 9/10/18. |
|
LOWER FALLS of the Yellowstone, 9/11/18; This is the most popular waterfall in Yellowstone --and one everyone needs to see in person!!! NOTE: We tried to visit the Upper Falls also --but construction had closed the area where we wanted to go!!!! SO--we missed the Upper Falls this year. |
|
SPEARFISH FALLS, Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota 9/9/18 (Love the Fall Colors in this one) |
|
GIBBON FALLS, Yellowstone, 9/12/18 |
|
KEPLER CASCADES, Yellowstone, 9/12/18 |
|
MOOSE FALLS, Yellowstone, 9/12/18; (A favorite of ours since this one is secluded in a pretty area full of Autumn colors;) |
|
ROUGHLOCK FALLS, Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota, 9/9/18 (Note picture below) |
|
ROUGHLOCK CASCADES, South Dakota, 9/9/18; NOTE: This is listed as one waterfall --but I divided it into the falls --in the background, and the cascades below at our overlook. Such a beautiful area! |
|
SIOUX FALLS at Falls Park, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 9/7/18 (This park and the falls and many cascades not pictured are beautiful... IF you are ever in Sioux Falls, be sure to visit this park... It is AMAZING!) |
|
FIREHOLE FALLS, Yellowstone. 9/12/18 (One of my favorite waterfalls plus cascades in Yellowstone.. We drove on the Firehole Canyon Drive and got some awesome pictures throughout this canyon.) |
|
Here's one of my favorite pictures of the two of us on this trip, taken on the Firehole Canyon Drive as we checked out all of the gorgeous cascades, 9/12/18 |
Well----are you water-falled OUT? I never ever get tired of seeing waterfalls... Hope you enjoyed this post... I will do an entire post about Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota, soon --since we were SO impressed with that area... It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip.... AND---can you guess how ROUGHLOCK Falls (in Spearfish Canyon) got its name? You won't believe it....
Have an awesome week.....
Hugs,
These are all fabulous. Easy to see how a person could "fall" in love with waterfalls.
ReplyDeleteI don't bother coloring my hair. I did it a few times but it's just not worth the effort and the gray doesn't bother me.
Gorgeous photos and your hair is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI love the Chihuly glass sculpture photo in your header! Beautiful photos of all the falls you visited, Betsy. I especially like the one from Sioux Falls--wow!
ReplyDeleteHello Betsy. I enjoyed all of your photos today. I never get tired of waterfalls. And since I’ve been to everyone of these falls in person, it brought back lots of memories to see them again. We were in Spearfish in July of this year and at the end of this week, we will make the drive back through Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and go right through Sioux Falls again.
ReplyDeleteI think your hair is lovely and I’m sure George does too. Besides, it’s the woman underneath that hair that counts anyway. Ha ha! And we all know how much he loves that woman.
Blessings, Betsy
You did a wonderful job with your pictures of the waterfalls we saw on this trip. I really didn't expect to see so many. For your information, I like the way your hair looks and I'll keep you as long as I can. As it says in the song "I ain't in love with your hair".
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful waterfalls. I have been away for 3 weeks so have had a break, hoping to catch up with all the news on the blogs soon. I love your headed and would have really enjoyed seeing Chihuli's sculptures lit up.
ReplyDeleteHello Betsy, beautiful collection of waterfalls. I have to add South Dakota to my list of places to visit. I have seen the Upper and Lower Falls at Yellowstone. Wonderful photos. Happy Monday, enjoy your day and new week!
ReplyDeleteFabulous pictures. Don't worry about the gray hair. I have had mine since my early 60's. Sometimes I get more respect because of it. Hahaha
ReplyDeleteimpressive I loved that glass in the top photo - I want it. And 16 waterfalls - you didn't know there were than many - I am like you - I love waterfalls. Take it easy. Sandie
ReplyDeleteI started out with a favorite, but that quickly changed. They are ALL so gorgeous!! SO, my VERY favorites are the first one, Virginia Cascades, and Gibbon Falls. All the rest are just plain favorites! I had no idea Yellowstone had lots of waterfalls. Our kids went there, but didn't say a word about any! Coloring your hair is so much trouble. And I find as I get older that comfort rather than looks is more important. Up to a point, that is!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Love your Chihuly header!!!
ReplyDeleteI have an idea beautiful Betsy that your young man didn't marry you for your hair color! LOL!!! I stopped coloring a few years ago and I am embracing the mousy icky gray.. not the white I wish it was! Your photos are so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI can remember when your posts were waterfall centered. Kind of missed them but I think you have made up for it in this post. Somehow sitting quietly by a waterfall and letting it cleanse your mind has to be refreshing.
ReplyDeleteBetsy, Chihuly glass sculptures are indeed beautiful! I just wonder if they've been 'over exposed'? They seem to be everywhere when we travel. As for waterfalls, who doesn't love them! You and George have a beautiful collection of waterfall photos, that's for sure! Looks like a great trip! As for hair color, first of all I don't have enough hair left to color...and secondly, once one passes a certain age, at least in my case, who cares what others think about things like hair color!! Laurie has considered going gray already... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteEach picture is amazing. I couldn’t pick a favorite. I do like your hair ,it looks good on you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for solving my comment problem. I got it fixed as I said on my post tonight.
ReplyDeleteLove all the waterfalls. I think you must have a "waterfall sense" to scope out so many everywhere you travel.
Go go years are good. We are headed to southern WV next week, may travel south in January, but the big trip is to Barcelona Spain next October for two weeks.
Absolutely amazing!
ReplyDeleteFabulous waterfall shots. And I really love your new header photo!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots as usual Betsy, but hard to believe you would do a post about waterfalls :-)
ReplyDeleteONE THING YOU DO NOT HAVE TO EVER WORRY ABOUT IS GEORGE GETTING RID OF YOU. NEVER SAW ANY TWO MORE MATCHED THAN YOU ARE. ALWAYS A GREAT SHOW WHEN YOU SHARE YOUR ADVENTURES.
ReplyDeleteHello Betsy, what a wonderful post and a great looking blog! I love the Chihuly glass sculpture photo in your header!
ReplyDeleteWhat a trip you had, WOW, so many beautiful photographs showing all the falls. I think my favourite is Sioux Falls … amazing.
September did go by so quickly didn't it - enjoy your October.
All the best Jan
Dear Betsy, like you, I find waterfalls enthralling. I haven't seen many, just a few in Minnesota in the northern state parks there. When we were in Yellowstone, we had only a few hours before nightfall and we didn't see any waterfalls. So that's a good reason to go back!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that South Dakota has them. Really, my knowledge of US geography is so spare. You and George have gone so many places and found the beauty that resides in mountain, water, range, flora, fauna. I am so grateful you share your trips with us. Peace.
Wow, beautiful images!
ReplyDeleteI love waterfalls, I enjoy seeing them from a distance.
ReplyDeleteWow! That really is fabulous country and looks like you had great weather. I've been posting some pics of the NC mts while we are here. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteSo many waterfalls, you must have been so happy to see them all. You do look happy and well in your photos and good on you for Going Go Go Go in retirement.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty are those waterfalls. I have never been to Yellowstone. I see I must go.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of you two and so much fun I see you are having.
betsy
Oh how beautiful, Betsy! LIke you, I will never tire of waterfalls, looking at them. Even better in person, where you can HEAR THEM! LOl You got some great pictures, love them all, but my favorite is the one called Lower Falls. Very pretty. Yes, y'all are on the go alot, and that's GOOD!! So much wondeful stuff in life to enjoy and soak up! My favorite falls in the world are the Tennesse ones, I've swam and splashed through quite a few of those in my time, ha ha LOL
ReplyDeleteI love George's comment to this post. I could tell from the photo of the two of you that he doesn't care a bit what color your hair is. You really did see a lot of waterfalls on this trip. I'm pretty sure we've been to Moose Falls; but, for the life of me, I can't remember where it is. You sure had different weather than we did when we went a few weeks later. We had snow every day. All it did was make the beautiful scenery even more beautiful, though. No problems on the roads.
