The End of our Beautiful Lilies

Black Beauty Tiger Lily
Here's my final group of pictures of our 19 varieties of LILIES in our yard this year.  If you missed any of these 5 blog posts,  click  HERE.   Hope you enjoy this final group!

The picture above is one of our little tiger lilies...  I LOVE these little lilies... This one is named is Black Beauty...  Pretty, isn't it? Be sure to click on all of the pictures in order to see them larger.

Several of you have asked to see 'group' pictures of the lilies.  That is never easy to do since the lilies (and daylilies) all bloom at different times... That is a good thing though since we enjoy lily blooms for a couple of months.. When one variety quits blooming, another takes its place.  SO---that is why it is hard to get a 'group' picture of all of them!!!!

The picture above is of our 'road flowerbed' ---and you can see lilies,  daylilies and roses all blooming.

Golden Splendor Lily
This beauty is named Golden Splendor...  It is such a beautiful lily.

Gold Band Lily
The last lily to bloom in our yard  (there are only a couple of blooms left in this one),  named Gold Band...  We enjoyed it for about 3 weeks...  Someone asked how long lilies bloom...  I think most of the buds will stay pretty for about 2-3 weeks....(Daylilies are different in that each blossom only blooms for ONE day.. BUT--there are usually lots and lots of blossoms --which keep the plant blooming for several weeks.)

This  is another view of several of the lilies in bloom in our side flowerbed... As I have previously said,  most of our lilies are planted in this long bed ---and in the road and the lamppost beds.

Trebbiano Lily
This little beauty is named Trebbiano.  As you can tell,  this lily is very pale yellow  (almost white) in color... This lily is located in the side flowerbed (not far from our swing)...

Sarina Lily
And this lily is named Sarina.   George took this photo --and this lily was one of several varieties in our lamppost flowerbed.   Yellow is one of my favorite colors this time of year,  and this one with its spots is quite unique.

Garden Pleasure Lily AND Touching Lily
Here is a picture showing you how many lilies were blooming at the same time in our road flowerbed...  Aren't they just gorgeous?  That is Touching on the right and Garden Pleasure on the left....

Garden Pleasure Lily
Finally,  besides Pink Perfection and Touching and Gold Band,  here is the 4th group of lilies in the road flowerbed that bloomed and bloomed and bloomed this year...  This one is Garden Pleasure---and a pleasure it was!!!!    As I said above,  a couple of Gold Band lilies are all that are left in our yard now... We'll have to wait 'til next year to see all of these again....

Hope you enjoyed seeing our lilies this year.  It's hard for me to pick a favorite... I loved Lollypop and Montenegro --since they were some of the early bloomers.   But there are others I love --such as this one (Garden Pleasure) and also Touching...  Overall though,  I guess,  if I had to pick a 2012 favorite lily,  I would choose Pink Perfection...  After looking at all of the lily posts,  you need to pick a favorite also....

Have a wonderful Monday. We are going to see the sunflowers at Biltmore....  Hope they are gorgeous  like they were last year when we were there.

Hope you are watching the OLYMPICS...  They are great... so many wonderful,  hard-working athletes.   SO proud of them!!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

  8. Gorgeous lilies, Betsy! Your roadside flowerbed is so pretty. I know folks that pass your house must enjoy all your flowers.

I have been getting a message every time I try to leave your blog that someone has something special for me. I thought it could be some sort of virus, but I ran a virus scan and nothing showed up. Hope you can figure out what the problem is.

Have a wonderful time at Biltmore! Hope it's not too hot...

  11. I love all your flowers! I don't think I could pick a favorite.

I haven't had that happen w/ the thing popping up, but I use IE more than Firefox, and haven't used Google Chrome at all.

  12. There are 3 that stole the show for me:black beauty, gold band, and garden pleasure. But if I had to choose only one, it would be gold band. I have never had a white lily and I just love the crisp, pristeen look of it.

I'm looking forward to your pics of Biltmore. In one of gardening magazines (Country Gardens Spring 2012) it was rated 20 out of 'their' top 20 all-time favorite public gardens in the US. The United States Botanic Garden on the National Mall in DC snagged the #1 spot. I kept looking for Biltmore because of my exposure to it through you and I was a bit disappointed to see it at 20. I've never been there, but feel like I have through you!:>)

I will be heading out to TX on Wed. for a few days with daughter and family in Dallas. Yes, I know it will be scorching,b but a school teacher's vacation is the 3 months of summer, so it is what it is! I'm grateful for the time off and that I'm able to travel out there. Hubby is staying here--work on the new RV park he is partner in is keeping him quite busy.
I haven't experienced what you were asking about, YET.
Savor those walks through those beautiful gardens at Biltmore and remember you're our conduit to them!Ha!;>)

  13. I didn't mean to have a b between scorching and but, I had two 'but's and erased only part of one!

  20. So very gorgeous. And I learned something new. I did not know that each flower only bloomed for one day. That explains why my flowers were dying after a one day bloom. I thought I was doing soothing wrong. Thanks for the info.

  41. The Gold Band really caught my eye. I am always amazed at the variety you have.
So happy the blistering heat has not affected them.
I don't watch the Olympics too much. They don't seem to show the events that interest me. Still I do admire the athletes.

  42. Yes please, lots of photos from Biltmore. I tried and tried but could not choose a favourite from your lillies. All totally gorgeous. I too would like to be your neighbour (straight across the road) what a visual delight you provide for them! Watching the Olympics on and off and (sigh) Oz is not doing too well. :(
Have a wonderful day over there Betsy and George.

  43. Gorgeous Betsy....
Did y'all buy most of your lilies, or have you transplanted them from other gardens? I have some, but they really are not multiplying like I thought they would. Do you have a special fertilize or food for them...
    They are so delightful!
Have fun at Biltmore and bring us pictures.

  48. I know you hate to see these come to an end, but if we had them all the time, we wouldn't appreciate them as much when we do have them. That's what I always tell myself about the dogwoods and the wildflowers in the mountains!! Can't wait for the Biltmore report. I think we are going one day next week.

  49. Enjoy Biltmore, Betsy.

  50. Hi Betsy, Yes, I am watching the Olympics. Great so far. I sure like your lilies. We had a Tiger Lilly at our lake house and it bloomed this Summer. Planted on the boundary with a neighbor and likely planted by a former owner there. Have a wonderful Tuesday tomorrow.

  51. So many beautiful lilies! I couldn't pick a favorite either. Hope you guys have lots of fun at Biltmore.

  52. Oh wow! Just about the time I think your lilies couldn't get any more beautiful you post more photos. I love all of these and it's really hard to decide on a favorite but there is something about the Black Beauty Tiger Lily that makes me keep scrolling back to it.

Hope you had a great time at the Biltmore gardens.

  55. Your lilies are beautiful, I notice a couple my lilies are starting to bloom again with the rains we've had lately. We are supposed to get more rain tomorrow and then dry out and get really hot again.
Have fun at Biltmore House, hope you don't get under any rain showers.
