Those of you who have been visiting my blog regularly for several years know what our favorite winter flower is here in Fairfield Glade, TN.... It's our little PANSIES. We can plant them in late Fall---and unless we have a horribly cold winter (which we usually do not), they will last until it gets really hot here (usually July). They start small (as in today's pictures) ---but will grow and spread ---especially in the spring... They do provide a little color in our yard through the long winter season.
I went outside with my camera on 11/11/11 ---and took some pictures of some of our Pansies to share with you today.. The picture above shows one of THREE round flowerbeds in our front yard where our Pansies are planted. We cannot use the entire bed because spring bulbs (Daffodils, Hyacinths, and Lilies) are all planted there. SO---the Pansies get the outside rim and the inside rim.... Be sure to enlarge the photos to 16x10 for larger pictures.
This little Pansy is just so pretty. I love the colors.
I love this little yellow one... I said this last year ---but can't you see the ANGELS in the Pansies????? I am an angel collector ---so maybe, that's another reason I love Pansies.
Even though this little guy has a 'hole' in him, you can still see the angel.... I also love the color of this one.
This little pink Pansy is diferent ---but you can still see the angel!!!!
Here is another pretty one --which is different from some of the rest of them.
Finally, here's one of my favorite colored Pansies.... That rich 'wine-ish' color is just so pretty ---and really shows up in the flowerbed.
IF you live in Tennessee and are looking for some great winter plants, be sure and plant some precious little Pansies!!!!! They bring joy to us!!!
Hope you had a wonderful weekend... I am feeling better and better. We even went out for another little ride on Saturday ---which felt GREAT....
Hugs,
Betsy
Glad to hear you are feeling better. I haven't been here for years, so this is the first of your winter pansies I've seen. They are lovely!
ReplyDeleteLove the pansies ---wonder if they would make it here at least for a short time? It went from the 40s to a high of 68 expected today. My closet is confused as am I!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy seeing your flowers as always.
Thanks for the uplifting comments on my blog--needed them. :>)
Blessings---♥b♥
Pretty!! Glad to hear you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteI share your love of Pansies. My hanging baskets are all planted in them now. I bring them under the porch covering each night to protect from frost and they bloom like crazy all winter.
ReplyDeleteThose I put in ground never do well.
So glad you are mending so well. Keep up the good work.
I love Winter Pansies, and yours are looking so pretty as always.
ReplyDeleteI noticed they had them planted at the Cracker Barrel this weekend, and everyone was commenting on how they looked like they were angels on their petals ~
Glad to see you are feeling better.

I am learning something new today that we could grow pansies in falls! I always thought we could grow nothing in falls. How amazing nature is. I love their vibrant colors as they look like an artist's pallet. Maybe I should paint your flowers on my canvas as I have not painted for years.
ReplyDeleteBetsy! So glad to read that you are feeling so much better and you were able to get out for another ride. I know how much you love the outdoors. You are one incredible lady with the flowers. So pretty.
ReplyDeletePansies are such happy flowers!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are feeling better Betsy ~ keep up the good work!

Oh how I loved planting pansies in Virginia. Sadly - nothing survives the cold here except that which is deep in the ground. I am already struggling with it being dark at 5pm! Ugh 6 months of early darkness and no color. I will be depending on my friends in the south to keep the color alive and well!!
ReplyDeleteI love Pansies too Betsy! I'm thrilled you are on the mend!! XO
ReplyDeleteI never realized they would last through the winter.
ReplyDeleteLove the pansy! So glad you are feeling better and able to get out and about. My friend with the produce stand gave me 40 huge mums. I have been planting them here and there and giving the neighbors and friends some. They are pretty now and next fall will have the homestead glowing in fall colors.
ReplyDeleteI love pansies too--in the garden and in a little vase tucked around the house. I particularly love your pink one.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that you are feeling better and getting out!!
Best,
Bonnie
So glad you are feeling better and were able to go for a drive!
ReplyDeleteI love pansies and having color in the drab winter.
I usually plant violas in Jan/Feb in pots and they are beautiful until extremely hot gets here.
until I started following your blog, i thought pansies only came in purple, yours come in all colors and are so beautiful. i can't pick a favorite color but I do really love that last shot.
ReplyDeleteI too love Pansies. Have ya'll ever planted violas? I bet you would fall for them too. I read the other day that giving a gift of a pansy to someone means you are thinking of them...
ReplyDeleteso glad you are getting stronger!!! glad to hear you're getting out again!
ReplyDeleteyou have the most beautiful blooms in your yard. your roses, your pansies, your other flowers. all so pretty.
I love little pansies too. I'm so glad to see you up and about after your illness. What an ordeal you had!
ReplyDeleteI love pansies, too, and wish I had a green thumb like yours.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better and better.
Your Pansies are all beautiful, Betsy! I always like to plant pansies each Fall for a little color in the winter. Blessings for your complete recovery!!!!
ReplyDeleteI planted some Pansies this year. First time ever! I love the pink one - I have never seen that color!
ReplyDeleteLove the pansies! I am so glad you are feeling better, Betsy. It must have been nice to go out for a drive.
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy,
ReplyDeleteso glad to hear you are feeling better! Take good care of yourself!
Love the little pansies, I like all of the colors but the cheerful yellow ones are probably my favorite.
Have a wonderful day!
Hi Betsy, Pansies are a favorite of mine. I may plant some here next Spring. My new place has no flowers or landscaping other than the wild plants on the edges of the property. Have a great day today and stay dry in coming days!
ReplyDeleteI love pansies, too; but I'd never noticed the "angel" in them. Thanks for pointing that out. Glad your gaining ground. I'm sure George is pampering you.
ReplyDeleteMy fav is that burgundy pansy! Such a rich color! Still can't figure out why the pansies are called 'stepmommies' in German. Glad you're feeling better Betsy! Have a great week! Off to run some errands and back to work another week tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to know that you are getting out and feeling better Betsy!!!!
ReplyDeleteI adore pansies....I wish I could grow them here. Our cool season is so short though.
xo
Your pansies are so gorgeous. I love them!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I especially like the pink one. I don't think I have ever seen them in that colour before.
ReplyDeleteThe only flowers blooming in southern Manitoba in winter are the ones I collected in summer and now live in my computer. LOL
Oh I love pansies, too, Betsy. Yours are beautiful. Rascal gave me pansies for Mother's day and they bloomed all summer, even in the extreme heat and they're STILL blooming!. I had Leonard pour mulched leaves over them for the winter. Most of them will be blooming when I move the mulch off next spring. Angels - I love that. Diane
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better. I love your little pansies. I just might get some for the flower pots out on my deck!
ReplyDeleteLovely Betsy!
ReplyDeleteWish my flowerbeds looked this good. :) Winds have been gusty for a few days so any cleaning outside is useless at the moment. I used to grow pansies in Virginia but haven't tried here. I should get one pot and see what happens.
Never really noticed the 'angels' till you pointed it out - very sweet.
Wonderful news that you are feeling better and getting out!
Whos a pansy? lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat colour and captures Betsy.
Oh my goodness, I love Pansies.. These are gorgeous. I put some out last week.. hope you're feeling better.. Blessings, Susie
ReplyDeleteI should get outside and plant some pansies. They really don't grow here much past May, but I sure would enjoy them in February. Besides, I could really use some angels surrounding this house.
ReplyDeleteHope you are getting stronger with each passing day.
I've never tried to overwinter pansy plants. I didn't know that they would survive the winters! I'm glad to hear that you went on a little ride this weekend. Hope you are on the mend ok. We got out for a ride too. It was so nice to shake the cobwebs out my wee noggin...
ReplyDeleteAll are very beautiful. Of course, any flower in the winter is my favorite. :)
ReplyDeleteBetsy, I love pansies as well, but unfortunately so do our deer. IT happens every year and you'd think I'd learn...I put them out, the deer eats them. I feel like they are saying, 'how can you be so stupid? but if you keep putting them out, we will keep eating them! Hah!" ...rascals...
ReplyDeleteHello Betsy, it is nice to know you are feeling better and can already ride outside again, but make it slowly, not too far yet, haha! I love pansies when i saw them in prints, and the first time I saw them in person in Europe and in the mountains of India, I cannot leave my eyes from them. They are really very beautiful for me. Unfortunately, they grow in very cold temps, which we don't have. The total times i saw them: 3x! haha.
ReplyDeleteUau, so many different and collored flowers!!!
ReplyDeleteCheers
Bia

All of the pansies are so pretty but I think that bright yellow one is my favorite. I wish they would grow here in the winter but we sometimes get down to the minus digits so probably not.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are feeling better.
Betsy, Lorelei likes angels, too. and I love pansies...always have. I love all the color variations...had never noticed the angel, though...I see it plain as day now that you have pointed it out.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pansies. I'd never noticed the angels in them before.
ReplyDeleteThey are so pretty. It's nice to have something provide some color over the colder months. :-)
ReplyDeleteI can see the angel in the pansies! Beautiful...love the way you describe them
ReplyDeletePansy's are one of my favorite flowers also. I'm glad you are feeling stronger.
ReplyDeleteHope you'll be hiking again soon.
What crazy weather we are having ,huh !!
Blessings
marilyn
I'm so glad that you are feeling a bit better. I hope you keep on improving. The dear little angel pansies must bring joy to you. I can't wait to see them in spring. I have never been able to keep them alive. hope George's back is okay after planting them.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better! I love the different colors of the pansies. I think the purple ones are my favorites because they always look like VELVET!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely shots of these merry little flowers. Over here, they are our spring flowers!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty pansies! So happy you are feeling better, Betsy.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved pansies. As a child I had a pansy garden under the birch trees in our back yard. Angels? I can see that now but never heard that before. I have always heard them referred to as their "little faces". So glad you are feeling better and can really notice it. How was Dad when you saw him? Keeping him in my prayers, he must miss his wife so much after all those years together. Blessings, Lynn
ReplyDeleteYour pansies are lovely Betsy. Yes, definitely see those little angels. So glad you're feeling better now.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved pansies. Of course here there is no chance of seeing any flowers here in the winter unless you have them growing inside. I love the little angels in them :)
ReplyDeleteI love the Pansies and Violas too. Such a happy flower. They make us all smile. MB
ReplyDeleteYou know I LOVE pansies, Betsy!!! And I did not see angels till you said! That is very cool. The pink one is very different, don't know if I have ever seen one that color. We have had bad luck with them, but maybe we planted them when it was still too hot, I can't remember; it was so many years ago. Will they survive a frost or do you have to cover them??? Snow? I may try again. How are you? Still getting better??
ReplyDeletePansies won't survive our winter, Betsy, but they are the first flowers we can plant in March. I love all the colors yours are. I never saw a pink pansy before!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are getting stronger day by day!
Thanks for pointing out the angel - I wouldn't have perceived it otherwise, but now it is so obvious! I hope to see more pictures of the pansies after they grow and spread.
ReplyDeleteI always think pansies are such happy flowers! So resilient too. Happy ... resilient ... kind of go hand in hand.
ReplyDeleteOh we have the pansies down here too and makes for such a great winter. I did see the angel. Hope you are feeling better. sandie
ReplyDeleteHello, Betsy! I love your cute pansies. They are nice addition to your garden so late in the season.
ReplyDeleteOh they ARE just beautiful! And they always make me smile.
