After leaving Biltmore and spending the night in Asheville, we then traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway --heading north... Here are some of the things we encountered along the way that day. I love seeing all of the layers of mountains (above) ---in addition to the clouds... Below are more pictures... Enlarge the photos for some larger pictures.
Here is a photo of Linville Falls. We had seen it before --but that was years ago. George hiked for awhile to get some 'up close' photos---while I took it easy!!!!
This gal loves riding on the parkway... Can't you see that happy face?
We found a really nice place for a picnic lunch... There was a little creek behind us....SO relaxing.
Here is the little creek behind our picnic table. Isn't it pretty?
I have many more photos along the parkway --but I'll share them gradually...
Hope you have a wonderful day!!! Did you get snow yesterday???? We did---but it didn't stick much ---or when it did, it melted quickly... SO---I'll just say that we had flurries all day!!!! Oh --how I love SNOW!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
Just stunning vista's Betsy! Those mountains really are blue!
ReplyDeleteWe are snowed under right now and it's -14. Not too cold yet but a strong wind.
Looks like you guys had another fine Biltmore trip and saw some more beautiful scenery. Love that first little snow.
ReplyDeleteLucky you with the snow! Those Blue Ridge Mountains are calling me home. LOL Looks like you and George had a relaxing picnic spot. I would have been tempted to nap on a blanket in the sun.
ReplyDeleteSnow yuck!! Have a safe trip back home. I will wave at ya on I40!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the mountains. I love it when there is just layer after layer of mountains and the BRP is a good place to see that.
ReplyDeleteWe love the parkway too. It's about a 20 minute drive for us to hop on, so we try to take advantage!
ReplyDeleteSuch a perfect spot for a picnic! I know it was exciting to see snow flurries yesterday. Just lots of rain down my way!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had another great day together. sandie
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Always love to go up to along Skyline Drive and see those mountains from up here. We didn't get snow, it was a rainy day though.
ReplyDeletea wonderful place for a picnic, i love that creek, and would like to be there. the first photo shows the WHY of calling them the Blue Ridge Mountains. I like the look behind you on the wall, i would like to peer over that wall
ReplyDeleteI remember the first time I saw the Blue Ridge Mountains and was hugely disappointed. I was ten and expected robins egg or brilliant blue, not the gray that greated us that day. I was pretty much expecting the color you captured. Yes they are blue. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI can see why a ride through the Parkway will put a smile on your face. Beautiful!
ReplyDeletehaha! Of course, we in Hawaii didn't get snow -- though later in winter the tops of the volcanoes on the Big Island will be covered with it. I love your enthusiasm for snow! And thanks for the gorgeous photos! I have never been in that area, but would love to someday.
ReplyDeleteLinville Falls is beautiful! So much time spent in Banner Elk and I never made it there!!
ReplyDeletethose mountains are stunningly beautiful! like you said, layer after layer. wonderful! (so is seeing your smile!)
ReplyDeleteYou silly goose you sound like Prince as he LOVES the snow too. I enjoy it too but after awhile want to look at something else. Now I love the hills and mountains and a creek is a must if we ever buy anymore land. Both of us grew up playing in a local creek. Thanks for taking us along on this get away. You treat us with such wonderful photos. Peace and Take it Easy with the decorating.
ReplyDeleteWe got snow on the Skyway!!!!
ReplyDeleteEvery time my parents come they take that route from here over to Waynesville, NC, where my aunt and uncle live!
They love it :)
You look so happy, Betsy!
xo, misha
Gorgeous is an understatement Betsy! I've visited Linville falls so it was wonderful to be reminded of how lovely they are! Larry
ReplyDeleteIt's scenery like this that led us to move up here. Virginia Beach, my hometown, is a beautiful city but these old mountains and small town life won me over.
ReplyDeleteLovely.
ReplyDeleteThe water looks so pure and clean.
The changes in the past few weeks are amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love seeing the picture of your picnic lunch. This brings back so many precious memories. Jake and I used to do things like this so often. I miss that more than words can say. Thanks for sharing these special pictures.
ReplyDeleteWe were supposed to get bad weather yesterday, then they pushed it up to today, we still have gotten nothing, yeah!! Your house in the header is just as pretty as any of these pictures, so warm and inviting. If I was lost, I would NOT be afraid to knock at your door!! I love the layers upon layers of mountains!! And gads to that dangerous little rocky fall!! The pretty creek and picnic are more my speed!! But I love SEEING the dangerous things, from my couch!
ReplyDeleteWe got a dusting overnight here as well. Our first for this year. Only I can't say that I love it.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the rest of your trip photos. Beautiful as always.
I would have a happy face too if I was in such a beautiful place!!
Ohhh I love the rock & the falls in the Linville Falls image... beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe snow we got Monday is just about gone, but it stuck & stuck around longer than I thought it would since the temp was so warm last Sat!
That is a beautiful view...that last shot..well, all are nice but that one just really appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteWe got a skim of snow, but did not last. I didn't take a single photo of it....
You found the perfect spot for your picnic!!
ReplyDeleteI love the mountain picture.
Betsy,
ReplyDeleteI love your header photo. This post was wonderful. The photos are so beautiful. What lovely scenes from NC. Thanks for sharing these.
Hi Betsy, We are going to have to make that drive - my husband will love it! I will too. I can surely see why the Blue Ridge has that name! Have a wonderful evening. Warmer weather on its way for a few days.
ReplyDeleteDriving along the Blue Ridge Parkway was one of the best parts of the vacation my sister and I enjoyed in your area this past summer. I couldn't get enough of those mountains then and can't see enough photos of them now. Yours are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness we have had no snow. Doubt we will get any here. My sister in Mississippi did, but thank it did not last long. The Blue Ride area is such a lovely part of the country.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the virtual armchair travelogue! So much fun - especially the picnic at the creek!! Have a safe trip home!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos and what a relaxing spot for a picnic lunch.
ReplyDeleteI wish I shared you love for the snow. I may have enjoyed the flurries we got today more if I did :) Nothing sticking yet but it sure is cold
What a beautiful view of the mountains! I can completely understand why you love the parkway, Betsy. It really is so pretty there. Love the creek and picnic spot too! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos as always. I am delighted that you had some snow!

Beautiful. You look so happy! The picnic area looks lovely. We didn't get any snow or even flurries. The kids were a little distressed. They were hoping to get out of school!
ReplyDeleteThe layers of the Blue Ridge mountains is very beautiful. I'm always in love with the layers of the Bighorns here. It never gets tiresome, does it? Diane
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures Betsy. You did find a wonderful spot for your picnic. It does look relaxing and so peaceful. You both look great and as always very happy. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteThe Parkway has got to be one of the best drives anywhere. I love that little place beside the creek you found for a picnic.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, other than a brief dusting in early November, we haven't had any snow down here in the valley. There is a bit on the mountains.
I would love to ride the Parkway with you. Those different coloured blue layers of mountains is a great scene and the little creek too. What a great place for a picnic.
ReplyDeleteBetsy, I'm so happy to see that you are out and able to ride along in the car through the mountains already. I shouldn't be surprised to learn that you had hiked a couple miles - just any day now. Those blueridge mountains are sooooo inviting!
ReplyDeletegreat photos! Our first snow, if you can even call it that began yesterday (1/12/12). We have a light dusting of "powdered sugar."
