Spring is quickly 'springing' in our yard. Even though it's only March, I wanted to share a few pictures I took yesterday around the yard. Above shows our side flower bed (on the upper side). In this bed are planted: Crocuses (already bloomed out), Hyacinths, Daffodils (blooming now), Tulips, Daylilies, Lilies, Semps, and Irises. To the right of this bed, you can see some of our blooming Periwinkle. Below are more pictures.
These are the flowers which are blooming now in the little round flowerbed around the Dogwood Tree. We have 3 little round flowerbeds in our yard. You can see Pansies (planted last Fall --and made it through the winter) and Daffodils (called Jonquils by my mother). NOTE: Last Fall we planted about 75 Pansies --and they have lasted all through the winter and are gorgeous now, all over our yard.
Here is a picture of that same little round flowerbed, but you can see more of our beautiful blue ground cover, Periwinkle, blooming under the Azaleas.
Here is the 2nd of our round flowerbeds. This is what we call the lamppost flowerbed---and besides Pansies, Daffodils and Hyacinths, there are lots of Lilies beginning to grow in this bed.
I took this picture of the lower side of our yard--looking toward the empty lot. You can see some of the Rose containers in the driveway. George kept them inside the garage all winter, so that they could go dormant.. Once it got warmer, he brought them outside. ALL of them are doing well.
You can also see one of the Rose beds (which George is re-doing) --and also our 'Dad Adams' Daffodils behind the Rose bed. The yellow Forsythia bushes are in the distance --near our woodpile.
Here's the third round flowerbed in our yard. This is the Red Bud flowerbed. Speaking of Red Buds, they are really budding now --so it won't be long until they bloom.
Finally, this picture makes it appear as if it is still winter, doesn't it???? We still have no new leaves on our trees up here on the Cumberland Plateau. I think most of you know that we are 2000 feet above sea level, so things happen a little slower here on the plateau.
I have one more set of pictures taken yesterday in our yard --but I'll show them another time. Hope you have enjoyed seeing a little of our Spring. I have always loved the Fall of the year --but there is something extremely special about Spring, and new life and growth. Praise be to God!
Hope your Spring is going great also. Have a nice day!
Hugs,
It's so nice to have these warm days to get out and see what's blooming in the yard. The daffodils and pansies are a pretty combination and the roses are coming along great. I am enjoying the extra daylight in the evenings to stroll around the yard. Thanks for sharing the pretty pics and have a very nice day.
ReplyDeleteOH the periwinkle is beautiful - and the green of the grass. That is what I am waiting for. Soon - it will rain some more - and then like magic - the greening (it's what I like to call it) appears. All of a sudden the grass is a lush and gorgeous green. Life springs forth from the dead and dormant brown stuff! Can't wait for the moment!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely your flower beds are already! It must be a real mood lifter to see all those beautiful buds in your yard already. I have a few crocuses and the lilies have started to peak out from the ground. But the rest is still very brown and wintery looking. I'm looking forward to spring in Ohio!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all this--a nice post to wake up to!:)
I love the pretty blue of the Periwinkle, I must consider planting this, is it invasive ?
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are coming along nicely with all this mild spring weather we are having.
George has his work cut out lugging the pots in and out of the garage, but he knows what beauty they bare in just a few short months.
Lovely post Betsy !
~Jo
Your post oozes beauty, hard work and happiness. I, too, love he blue ground cover.
ReplyDeleteNow if I had a magic carpet,I would fly over to your yard for the next several days.I could then enjoy all this beauty instead of watching a storm approach. We are under a winter storm warning, meaning that before the day is over we will have snow and blowing snow.Yuck! Thanks for the sunshine of your flowers.
ReplyDeleteRuth
I'm glad spring has sprung for you... we have a temporary return to winter. I love the way your home fits into the beautiful contour of the land! Larry
ReplyDeleteBy the way... the plants you asked about are brugsmansias... a tropical tree like plant that I overwinter in our basement... their scent is heavenly and usually they get about 8-20 feet tall for me during the growing season if cut back to 4-6' and held dormant over winter.
Whoops Betsy... that was a typo... should have read 8-10 feet tall on the brugsmansias! Larry
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking at all your pictures, Betsy! Your flowers are just beautiful! I'm so glad spring is here!
ReplyDeleteHow nice that your pansies survived the winter!
Betsy,
ReplyDeleteI've not heard of bringing roses in for the winter. Is this what is done sometimes in warmer climates? I live in Indiana so it's pretty cold in winter. George sure has a nack for the roses. I love them but have only managed to care for 6 at a time. Blessings to you both.
Beautiful flowers! My daffodils are starting to bloom and they are calling for freezing temps by the end of the week. I'm hopeing that that they'll survive it. Though I won't be home to enjoy them any way...
ReplyDeleteYour spring is looking delightful Betsy!
ReplyDeletexo Catherine
I love the woodland setting of your lawn. The flowers are such a lovely pop of color. Can't wait to see your lilies up close--and then, the roses.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
I miss those sights of spring so much. Arizona just doesn't have them. At least in the desert. I suppose they do at higher elevations. Your yard is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteEverything is looking so pretty!!! That periwinkle is gorgeous...it looks like it rained purple flowers!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day!!!
I'm with Ruth - and get a flying carpet - just to be where you are! It is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing - what a lift! We had more snow yesterday - 'nuff said.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, your yard looks lovely. Even your grass looks green and pretty.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe those are last Fall's Pansies. I did the same and mine are just stubbs with no blossoms. Just a delightful yard Betsy and George. Be proud.
Hi Betsy, looks like spring has really arrived in your yard! The periwinkles are a beautiful color contrast on the green lawn. We have lots of daffodils blooming here and a few tulips are popping through as well. In mid-May we will be travelling to Bryson City, NC and hope to see lots of color along the way.
ReplyDeleteenjoyed our romp through your springtime yard. love the daffodils and pansy's, beautiful color. so happy you have color instead of snow. everything is looking good and soon there will be roses in you "bucket garden"
ReplyDeleteLovely share today, my crocus like your header just started. I have had a few others for a week and many peepers. The grass looks lovely even, mine is still dormant most places.
ReplyDeleteJust lovely. Spring for sure. I like that you have your roses in containers and store them in the garage for winter. I can see the growth in the photos from here!
ReplyDeleteit does look like Spring is Springing at your home. i love daffodils ... i see one and think SPRING. Love the pansies ... such a happy flower!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Betsy. I can see that a lot of love and hard work has gone into your yard. Aren't Pansies the cutest.
ReplyDeleteYou blooming are a bit ahead of ours. MB
What lovely, neat flower beds you have, and lovely Spring flowers. Our trees are just beginning to leaf. With grey skies this morning, it still looks a little winter-y here, too.
ReplyDeleteYou look pretty well organized already!
ReplyDeleteLove all your colorful pansies and aren't you smart too. I wish I had done that. During the fall I'm not so much into gardening - but I should be. Those are some cute little beds. Looking forward to your stunning roses.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a gardener, not one at all actually but my hubby is a qualified horticulturist so he loves it!!
ReplyDeleteIt's because of you that I begged him to plant periwinkle. It's beautiful and although ours is still sleeping under the snow, it will return sometime soon!! It is never as lush as yours but I guess that's the price we pay for where we live so I'll have to enjoy yours for a while longer..
Hi Betsy, You have a lovely yard! I love the bulbs and those pretty Pansies! Have a super day today!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm down right jealous! LOL!
ReplyDeleteOne little Crocus poked it's head out on the first day of Spring, only to be lost in a snow storm on the second day!
Your flowers are simply lovely!
☼ Sunny
I definitely enjoyed seeing your yard...I just love pansies. They are one of my favorite flowers.
ReplyDeleteI'm at sea level, but farther north so our daffodila have not yet opened. In fact we may get a dusting of snow tomorrow! It was nice to see your flowers all doing so well ..spring is certainly a wonderful time of rebirth!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful Betsy - you guys have everything so professional looking.
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy, I've enjoyed your spring flower tour. I need to plant some spring bulbs to replace some that have been tilled up or mowed down. I can't wait until the lilacs bloom! Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cheryl
Real colourful garden you have Betsy.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful yard, Betsy! I especially like the ground cover/flowers... it's just so pretty, like a sea of flowers... =)
ReplyDeleteAll the flowers are very pretty, tho!
Hi Betsy, your flowers are gorgeous! And I love your yard with all of those tall trees...I live in Mooresburg, which is in between Knoxville and Rogersville, so I was really interested in the Pansies from last Fall, and also the fact that your husband took the potted rose bushes into the garage for the Winter. :) I love playing in the dirt, and I'm always curious as to what will live, or not, LOL and where to stash things for the Winter months. I'm also avid about the birds and nature. Just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your blog, and that we are 'kind of' neighbors. :D
ReplyDeleteHurray, it's spring...the flowers are lovely and what's better is that the sun is shining. Here it is 80 today :) talking about spring fever; I think I got it!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, your yard is absolutely gorgeous with all the dazzle of spring! George's work with the roses will begin to pay great dividends of pleasure in just a few short days.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE seeing all your flower beds, and your yard, it makes me HAPPY!! I adore the sweet little beds! I wanted to put my future birdbath right here by the backdoor in our wildflower bed and plant wildfowers all around it, but the porch rail is in the way for picture taking. I'll have to put it somewhere else. Two days now and the birds still have not found the darned suet feeder!! It would help if I had a regular feeder there beside it, but I am waiting to go to the fancy store for a look. I love your pots even without the roses in them, love that bright pretty color!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, your flowers are already beautiful, mine are just starting to peak throught he grounds with glimpses of green. I thought they were behind and now I'm sure they are. haha.. Very nice yard you two have, Betsy!! :-)
ReplyDeleteTruly delightful! Thank you for sharing Betsy.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Spring is such a beautiful time of year and your yard reflects that beauty.
ReplyDeleteNobody was coming around to comment on my birds blog, so I thought I would change it completely and did. I figured nobody was interested. However I have got several comments about not being able to comment on it.
ReplyDeleteSo I have had to change it back to another template. Will see if this works out OK or not. If not, I might just give up and do everything on facebook or take the comments off the blog as it is more than I can keep up with anyway.
Oh Betsy, your yard is just beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteYou can tell you and George put a lot of work into it.
We are still looking at lots of brown although a few daffodils have bloomed and the forsythia.
Seeing your lovely beds makes me want to put a lot more effort in mine. :)
It is so very exciting when the flowers begin blooming in the spring. I really hate I am spending so much time in Rockwood because my flowers are at home. But it was exciting to come home this afternoon and see what had changed since Sunday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to see the roses out already. Will George have to take them back in at all?
Spring is off to a great start there. Beautiful flower beds. So far nothing here and they're calling for snow in the next couple of days.
ReplyDeleteYour yard is a beautiful place to "sit a spell" and enjoy Spring! It's beautiful with all the yellows and purples . . . I agree with you: Praise be to God" for new life and growth!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful yard you and George have! The pansies and daffodils are so cheerful and I love how the periwinkle carpets the ground with blue color. Have a nice week!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a beautiful yard. I never have and never will like yard work...it's just not my thing. However, I sure do enjoy looking at a beautiful yard like yours.
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely to see all your blooms, Betsy. You're ahead of us, so it's nice to get to enjoy yours. :)
ReplyDeleteIt may sound silly but I really miss seasons. When the weather is the same all the time, you miss out on things...like that feeling of exhilaration on that first warm spring day. But it is fun to rub in the fact that it is 70* and sunny when your family and friends are shivering in the snow;)
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are beautiful Betsy. Nice to see the gorgeous color and see that it's spring Somewhere! Diane
ReplyDeleteWow Betsy...
ReplyDeleteYour area is really "Springing UP"
Don't you just love all the beauty that God has set before you...
Love the ground cover...beautiful shades of blue...Oh, and I love that green grass...I suppose all that rain was a true Blessing!
Shug
What a lovely clicks..! I enjoyed Betsy. So colorful, spring is nowhere, now-here :-)
ReplyDeleteDoes George use a wheel barrel to move such big planters? Mind his back.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the purple flowers under the trees?
When you are not on hoilday, you can host a B & B (bed and breakfast)
Springtime in your yard is a thing of beauty. It's apparent that you and George put a lot of effort into it.
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy
ReplyDeleteI've been out today making pictures of flowers in my yard. Yours are beautiful,I don't have that many.
Kennebec is a potato variety that is white with a very thin peeling that can be eaten. They are my favorite kind of potato, quite different from the russet potatoes that you buy in the grocery stores. In the fall you can find kennebecs and I don't know if that is the correct spelling or not but anyway you can them for sale at roadside stands or farmers markets. And you are right about the kohlrabi it is a bulb vegetable that grows underground and taste a lot like raw cabbage, very good for you, loaded with vitamins.
And that is your country gardening lesson for the day, hahaha.
Blessings to you always,
Marilyn
Spring has sprung we have already cut our yard twice. I thought about making pictures of it to show but I don't have any pretty flower beds to show everything was so growed up all we have been doing is cleaning up and cutting down...your are very very nice. God Bless Trish

ReplyDeleteHi Betsy. I love the idea of the rose containers lining the driveway and the winter storage in the garage. I'll have to try that.
ReplyDeleteOh! the periwrinkle I grew was one yard tall. I grew it for nostalgic reasons, my granpa grew them. One day, I read in canada, they used it for Canada treatment.
ReplyDeleteYou got a superman.
Your garden is going to be gorgous when everything is in bloom! I just love all your blooming bulbs. I'm not home to enjoy my daff's, so thank you for sharing yours!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, Betsy!
Debbie's Travels
Mother Nature decided to play a trick on us. We have snow on the ground again! Your yard looks very Springlike! Nice pictures of the flowers!
ReplyDeleteLots of pretty spring flowers! Gorgeous! The work that you and George do always shows in the results :-)
ReplyDeleteOh Betsy, your photos made me long for spring so bad...I also have daffodils and tulips all over my yard, but it will be about 2 MONTHS before we get them up here. Our yard is still full of snow!
ReplyDeleteGoodness gracious....here in our small town they have a contest for "Best Yard of the Month" I am here to tell you that you and George would win EVERY SINGLE MONTH :) Beautiful....Just Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour home looks cheerful and springy with the great variety of colorful flowers. You and George do a great job.
ReplyDeleteYou and George are truly master gardners!!
