Greenery from the Biltmore Conservatory

Many of you know that after going to the Biltmore House and Gardens in Asheville, North Carolina in November,  we loved it so much that we decided to buy season's tickets so that we could visit OFTEN.   SO--we went back there on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2011.

Here are some beautiful pictures taken from inside the Conservatory of some of their fabulous GREEN plants.  The one above looks like a FAN to me.

Don't you just love the 'curls' in this plant????

This one looks like someone took the "pinking shears" to it.  SO pretty!!!

My mother had one like this --but I have no idea what its name is... (They do not put names with their plants/flowers at Biltmore!!)

I love ferns.  I have never had any luck growing them  (or keeping them alive),  but I really enjoy them, especially seeing all of the different varieties.

Love the leaves in this plant;  They formed hearts --which was perfect on Valentine's Day (which was the day we were at Biltmore)!!!!

If any of you know the names of these plants,  feel free to tell us!!!!   Thanks!

Have a wonderful day.
Hugs,

  2. All those greens are amazing.Looking at just the leaves really makes one appreciate their beauty.Too often the leaves are ignored as we look at the flowers. That big fan is quite unique.
Hope you will have a great day.

  13. Betsy,
Love the plants...my husband would want one of each; he loves plants but tells me to NOT touch them~ and I don't! :) He says I kill them, which isn't exactly true but close enough!
I think the one with the curlies looks like a toy Nicholas had as a kid with tunnels and shoots to slide marbles down.
I hope you have an awesome day my friend!

  18. This is such a beautiful variety of plants...I like each one you showed. And have no clue to any of their names, except I did know the one was a fern but what kind I have no idea.

re Bob White Syrup...to the best of my memory, yeah it is sort of like the dark Karo syrup.

  19. Good morning! The third photo shows what we call a Birds Nest fern around here. I'm not certain what the others are but they are pretty. Lucky you to have season passes to Biltmore! How far are you from there? Have a great day!

Actually, I think the first one is a curly croton...I have some in the yard, but mine have burgundy/orange and green leaves.

  23. Good Morning, Betsy! I knew the names of the bromeliad and the cyclamen, but that was all. Darla knew each of them! They are all just beautiful. I have a few green plants, but on one of them the leaves keep turning black on me, just haven't the heart to pitch it yet...I keep cutting it back and it keeps growing but then turns black. May be my water.
    Great photos...Blessings!

  28. Hi Betsy, Nice pictures of the conservatory green house plants. Ferns are hard to grow unless you have a very mild summer and winter. We had a lot of ferns in the ground in Los Angeles where you can grow all year long. Have a super nice day today. Big rains and possible T-storms tomorrow and tomorrow evening. You may want to keep an eye on the weather.

  36. Oh I DO LOVe these plants! The one with hearts is my favorite but I also love the curly one too! I am like you, not so great at keeping them alive! My Daddy had an amazing green thumb! He could grow ANYTHING!!!

Isn't it wonderful all the beautiful things the Lord creates for us to enjoy :)

  37. Wow Betsy, I really running late today, but I am so glad to be able to stop by. I love the pictures. Your pics are always so clear. Would you believe that we are in the nursery business and I don't really know the names of any of these plants. I guess the reason is because we grow TREES! Mainly Pecan Trees...
I have always loved plants of all kinds. One of my favorite things to do is to go to all the Nurery conventions and shows...so many unusual plants!
glad you had the opportunity to see all the greenery!
    Warm Hugs,

  40. On one of those trips you make to the Biltmore House you need to come down the road about 20 minutes to see me.
I feel much better tonight and I was right the dentist didn't know what happened yesterday and said I would never have to wait again.
    Have a blessed tomorrow
