I am on one side looking at the big bowl surrounding this waterfall. You can see the waterfall on the left side... The trail leads behind the falls. I was taking George's picture--and all of those other people (whom we did not know) posed also!!!!! ha ha ... George is on the right.
George took this one of me hiking up the trail toward where he was --behind the falls. The steps going down on the right lead down to the bottom of the falls. In Summer --people love to swim in the pool at the bottom of the falls. This time, there was almost no water down there.
This bowl (overhang) is amazing. Can you see the water? George is standing almost under where the waterfall is. IF there was alot of water, he would definitely be WET standing where he was!!!! (Those people across the way are still posing for my picture!!!!! Tee Hee!!!)
As we followed the trail around behind the falls, there were lots of rocks to climb up --when headed up the hill on the other side. This bowl in the gorge is truly an awesome place to visit.
Here's one final picture of Yahoo Falls---taken by George from the far side. You can see the brink of the falls here. When we hiked out---we crossed back over the creek at the brink. We did not go back up all of those steps!!!!! ha ha
When we go back to Yahoo Falls, hopefully there will be much more water coming over the falls. We'll show you the difference then!!!!!! BUT--as I have said, this is a fabulous hike (only about 1.5 miles total) into the gorge, and we really do recommend it --any time of year, even if there's not much water at the falls.
I have mentioned that George and I have visited about 430 different waterfalls since 2001. There are some huge ones like Niagara or even Cumberland Falls. AND--there are the small ones like Yahoo --where the setting is phenomenal. Do we have favorites??? Probably not--since all are unique and gorgeous--each in its own way!
Hugs,
On another note, my wonderful friend RUTH lost her husband yesterday. Jake lost his battle with cancer. Ruth and Jake have been great friends of George and me --and we are grieving so much at his loss. May God bless Ruth and the family during this time of sorrow. IF you have time, stop by Ruth's blog (click on her name above) and send some of your love to her. Thank You.
I am sorry to hear about Jake. My deepest sympathy to all of you.
ReplyDeleteThese photos today are awesome. That is cute about all those folks posing for you! The views are amazing even with very little water. Thank you for sharing with us today.
My prayers for your friend.
ReplyDeleteWhoaa! that is a huge cave! Impressive place. I recently went to a waterfall with a little cave inside. Your pictures reminded me that place.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures -- those people pictures really give perspective. I can see why you recommend this hike.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am very sad for Ruth and have already left a message. I've been praying daily for them.
Sure is some spectacular rock scenery.
ReplyDeleteThat's a serious lack of ground water there! Are the authorities worried about it at all? Not that anyone can do much it's all up to nature.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, spectacular scenery and of course I'm partial to rock as we live on it!! Our house is built on it and a huge rock protrudes into our basement!!
One of the things I love about the east are all the unique names. Like Cataloochie. THAT's where I want to live. . . someplace with a name like that. I love that header. And..those rocks are huge. Glad you took a photo with people to see the comparison.
ReplyDeletewell now i know why they named it Yahoo Falls, when i saw the first photo looking down i felt like yelling YAHOOOOO... these are super duper great photos. I would love to see this bowl. i like it just like it is, but will be waiting for the next visit of more water
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome looking place. It looks so huge and the people look so tiny! Beautiful with or without water!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm grieving with Ruth, too. She is such a sweet lady.
Looks like a beautiful hike, those rocks are awesome! Your capture of the other visitors really shows the enormity of the place! Maybe this is a dry time of year, although I think this has been a drier year for most of us, we seem to have gotten it all the first week in May.
ReplyDeleteLoved the pictures but see I can't get you two from standing under gigantic boulders.
ReplyDeleteThat is too bad about the rain shortage especially for waterfall lovers.
My deepest sympathies to you, George and Ruth. I know you will lean on each other for support. Friends make the unbearable, bearable.
Yahoo! What an incredible place. I can't get over the amazing scenery; to my eye it has a prehistoric look.

My heartfelt sympathy on the loss of Ruth's husband.
Excellent shots, Betsy. I love all the gorgeous rocks. they are huge and amazing.
ReplyDeleteSorry about Jake I will go visit Ruth. MB
I was looking forward to seeing more today, the geology of the area is awesome.Walking behind it when it is really coming down would be a real thril. It made me think of standing under Smith Falls, along the Niobrara River, trying to shoot a picture with a friend of the light at the top.I held a umbrella over him while he tried to get the right angle. This is a trout stream so was cold even in July. This river has quite a few small falls flowing into it and some you have to portage around. On the south is the NE Sandhills,on the north the start of the Black Hills with huge Ponderosa Pines. Thanks for joining my blog, I am sure we have lots in common.
ReplyDeleteNothing I could say will match the magnificence of these sights! I can just imagine what that falls looks like in full force.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your header! And I am definately NOT looking at the water today. It's those rocks! My word, what's up with those amazing colors!! In the first picture they look like malachite with the green striations! And the wonderful coppery colors, lines and shades! Jewelry for us all!!
ReplyDeleteSo many adventures you and George are having Betsy ~ wonderful ~ thank you for sharing them with us!
ReplyDeleteWarm wishes and thoughts to anyone that needs it today...
xo Catherine
I'm so sorry about your friend Jake.
ReplyDeleteThe waterfall is beautiful, even without a lot of water. Looks like a nice hike. Going behind the waterfall reminds me of a scene from Last of the Mohicans. Very romantic!
It's a beautiful site - thanks for another great visual tour!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post of beautiful rocks! Next month, I will be climbing a huge mountain in my country which is 3 hour flight away because I love the rocks too! My next blog post will announce my trip! Thanks for sharing to keep my excitement burning!
ReplyDeleteThat really does look like an amazing place to visit & I love how that 'rock' stretches out over the path so far! That's so cool! I'd love to hike down there & explore the place!!!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your friend's passing - God bless him!
My heart just goes out to our dear Ruth and her family! My condolences to you in the loss of a dear friend! Our God is good and I'm so glad Jake did not suffer pain. He is with our Lord, praising Him!
ReplyDeleteJust love God's creation in your neck of the woods! That is one incredible area and any words I say couldn't express the Yahoo factor of this place! Thanks so much for sharing all your wonderful adventures!
Beautiful...I'm wondering if we will have a lot of rain this fall...these falls are wonderful...
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your friend!! I will visit her blog.
What a fantastic sight!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Jake. My condolences to Ruth and her family.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous hike! Without much water falling, the rocks are more visible and the beautiful color and textures can be appreciated. It will be interesting to see the difference if you go when there is a lot of water flowing.
Since I have never been to Kentucky and probably never will, I really enjoyed my trip through your lens.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic hike! And your pictures are amazing!! We have something similar here in Vegas up at Mt. Charleston "Mary Jane Falls". The water never really runs any faster, but it is a great hike also and fun to get behind the falls!
ReplyDeleteI see by reading a few of your other comments that someone dear to you is no longer with you. I would also like to express my deepest sympathy.
Enjoy your day!
The falls are amazing, even without water. The stairs remind me of when we went to Tallulah Gorge....I thought I was going to die climbing all those stairs!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about you friend. May God bless you all during this time of sorrow.
I'm sorry to hear the sad news about the passing of Ruth husband, Jake. I shall say a pray for Ruth and their family.
ReplyDeleteYahoo Falls is an amazing sight. The rock formations are beautiful and so huge they take my breath away.
Have a wonderful weekend, Betsy.
Hugs.
Almost looks like something out of the Avitar movie (LOL)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your friend's husband Betsy. My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family.
ReplyDeleteThose are some amazing rock formations and you've captured them beautifully. I would love to visit the area when we've had plenty of rainfall.
The photos of the falls and humongus outcroppings and rock look like they are paintings! They are just beautiful! I am so glad that you are able to get out and enjoy Mother Nature and hope that knee is doing well. I am so sorry about the loss of your friend. Please know you all are in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteThat's an impressive number of waterfalls you visited. I loved these latest photos.
ReplyDeleteMy deepest sympathy for the loss of your friend Betsy. How very sad for you all.
We ran into the same thing this Aug. in Hocking Hills. The two waterfalls were trickles, but the caves and surrounding bluffs were awesome.
ReplyDeleteAs I've said before, I love 'traveling' with you! :)
My love goes out to you in the loss of your friend--that final phone call brings a mixture of emotions---we lost a good friend that way several years ago -- his wife and also close friend became a widow before she turned 50. You are relieved the suffering is over, yet so sad that he's no longer here to talk to and be with.
What a gorgeous place, Betsy. I don't think I'd like doing all that climbing, so I'm glad you share the pictures when you go, so I don't have to!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your friend, Jake. Hugs and prayers to you and to his family.
So sorry about the loss of your friend but thankful he was a Christian and is not suffering anymore.
ReplyDeleteYou made me nervous standing under those rocks!
Amazing beauty, Betsy! I'm so glad you and George have been able to see so many beautiful places - and that you like to share your good times with others!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. May God be very near his family - and you and George as your grieve.
Hi Betsy, I am so sorry to hear about your friend Jake. My condolences to Ruth, you and George, I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteEven without enough water this is a beautiful falls. My favorite part is the bowl and all the rock formations, I would love to climb over some of those boulders.
That water fall surely shows how little rain we have had this fall. That sure looks like a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed tomorrow
Marilyn
Betsy this is such a pretty location! The giant rocks are so dramamtic. You should make up a photo book someday of all the waterfalls you've visited.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your blog friend losing her husband. She will be in my prayers!
What an awesome place! Thanks to your wonderful photos, Betsy, I can really feel like I've seen some beautiful places without even leaving my home. But, of course, I do hope to see them for myself some day!

I am so sorry to hear about your blog friend Ruth losing her husband.
ReplyDeleteMay the good lord comfort her in this terrible time.
Just catching up with you Betsy.
Love all the photos...this place is SO amazing.

Those extra"posers" must have known you are the famed "Betsy from Tennessee" and are even now - seeing themselves posted in your photos! Haha!
ReplyDeleteIt is funny how folks do that sort of thing - but neat too (at times ) to share the experience. Once when we were climbing Whiteface in the Adirondacks, we came across a few - I finally just asked - can I take your picture and send it to you?
Turns out that is what they wanted. To be so high up in the world on this mountain - and not have brought their camera - they were afraid no one would believe they stopped on a whim and got to the top!
You never know - what is in peoples minds!
What a great spot and photos! I was so sorry to hear about Jake, even though we all knew it was coming. Ruth is such a nice blogger.
