A New Bluebird House
I know it was the weekend and people are busy, so if you missed my latest bird blog post yesterday, click HERE. As most of you know, my birds are very important to me--and I simply adore feeding them and taking their pictures.
When we moved to this house in 2002, we inherited an old Bluebird Nest box. I have no idea how long it had been in the yard---but last year (after taping it together), we knew that we needed to buy a new one. I loved this particular nest box --so I started asking blogger friends if they knew of where I could find a similar one. Thanks to blog friend JAYNE (Journey through Grace), I found out where to order another Bluebird House.
Laurance Sawyer's BLUEBIRD HOUSING in Ellijay, Georgia is the business I called and then ordered my new house. They are custom-made --and the new nest box is exactly what I wanted. IF you are looking for a neat Bluebird House, contact the Sawyers HERE. Or you can call them at 1-888-835-1207.
I hope my Bluebirds like this new box as much as they did the old one. This one is really safer for them since it is not full of holes!!!! I'll keep you posted --as to what the Bluebirds think about their new home!!!! Hopefully, we'll enjoy many Bluebird families here for many years to come. There is a picture of it above and below, of the new nest box.
The first picture at the top of the page is a close-up of the new Bluebird House. This one was taken from the deck---where I will sit with camera in hand --watching the Bluebirds as they go in and out of the box. I cannot wait... (I'll keep you posted I'm sure!!!! ha)
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
On another note, somebody very close to me has a birthday tomorrow (March 9). Wonder who that could be?????????????
And he HUFFED and he PUFFED... This was taken last year on George's birthday... He had to work really hard to blow out ALL of those candles.... We were in Mt. Nebo this time last year --and had a great birthday trip.
See how happy he was??? I hope he is as happy this year --at the young age of 68!!!!! I tease him about being SO much older than I am. For the record, I won't be 68 until August 5!!!! ha ha
We are headed out today on a short birthday trip (a big surprise for George). The only thing he knows is that it involves waterfalls and good food!!!!! We'll be back on Thursday --and I'll post again on Friday (March 12). Hopefully, I'll have some great birthday pictures to share!!!!
In the meantime, why don't you pop over to George's blog (click HERE) and wish him a very Happy Birthday??!! I don't know whether we will have internet service in the mountains --but I will have the laptop with me and George has his iPod Touch, if we do!!!!
Hope you have a wonderful week.
Hugs,
Its George's birthday and the Blue birds get a present. Looking forward to seeing those fluffy, blue, balls making themselves home at your place.I'll pop over to George's blog now. Have a nice trip.

Betsy - Since you guys like to explore, if you haven't been to Ellijay, you may want to drive down and pick up your next birdhouse - it's and interesting little town.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful bluebird house, Betsy. I hope your bluebirds like their new abode.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to George! Enjoy your birthday trip---looking forward to the pictures when you return.
I have two of their houses Betsy. One is made of poplar and the other is made from white birch. They seem to prefer the poplar one which I've had for almost 24 years. Marvin Sawyer brought out my birch one he made, just a few months before he tragically passed away. I was so glad to see his sister and her husband picked up the business and have continued to make these wonderful bluebird homes.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely bird nest!
ReplyDeletePls convey my best wishes to George tomorrow :D
Hope you all have a fabulous trip. Can't wait to hear where it is.

What a great bluebird house!!! I love it. Which direction does it face? Someone told me it has to face....(I think east) but don't remember?
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy, I bet you will have great fun watching the birds nesting in their new house. The birthday cake looks delicious and absolutely dripping with calories.
ReplyDeleteI am beside myself Betsy. I saw my first bluebird here. It was in the parking lot of the local eatery. I didn't notice the blue till it flew off. Guess it must have been a female or a very young one. Which--can you help me?
ReplyDeleteI hope the 2 of you have a wonderful trip.
I thought George & I shared something. His special day the 9th & mine the 29th. How about that!!!!
Hi, I found your blog after jumping around several others. I love your new bluebird house. I'd love to get one but have a question. Does it open up to clean out the nests when the babies are gone so they can build another one?

Looks like that will hold up for a long time (the bluebird house, that is!) Do you think they'll use that one or do you think maybe they might miss their old house? Diane

PS, Thank you Betsy for all of your support and kind words on the photo challenge. I really appreciate it.
I'm sure the both of you will have a great day venturing wherever your travels may take you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your post about Mt Nebo; because if it weren't for the two of you ~ I don't think we ever would have taken that route home from Texas. It was wonderful visiting "your mountain". Sorry we missed you! I would have LOVED running into you up there. We didn't stay up on the mountain this year ~ we stayed at a little hotel by the Arkansas River between Dardanelle and Russelville... but I can certainly understand your attraction to cabin 60. It's gorgeous up there!! Maybe next time!! Happy Birthday George!!!!
Tell George I said Happy Birthday and may you both have a great year of WANDERING
ReplyDeleteTHat's a lovely birdhouse - I just know you will have a nice bluebird family inhabit it! And sounds like George is going to have a wonderful birthday! You two kids have fun!!
