Burgess Falls in Winter (Part II)

Look at that gorgeous waterfall!!!! Yesterday I showed you Falling Water Cascades, Little Falls and Middle Falls. All of these plus the 'beauty' pictured above are at Burgess Falls State Park in Cookeville, TN. Be sure and check out yesterday's post --if you missed it, for information about this beautiful area which is not far from our home. Above is the largest of the four falls at 136 feet. Its name is BURGESS FALLS... More pictures are below.

When we got to Burgess Falls, I sat at the brink of the falls just feeling the mist and enjoying the area.

George walked on down to get better pictures of the side and the bottom of the falls.

Look at all of the icicles tucked up along the bluffs and gorge area.

To get a perspective of how large this waterfall is, look at the top--on the right side. Can you see ME standing up there watching George as he makes his way toward the bottom?????

Here's a close-up of me standing at the top of the waterfall.

This picture is truly amazing. Can you see it????? Look again.... There is a icicle CROSS in the center of Burgess Falls. (Now scroll back up two pictures --and look at the cross in the center left side of Burgess Falls! Awesome, isn't it???)

Another picture of Burgess Falls and the icicles beside it

And one final picture of Burgess Falls and nearby icicles in February of 2007

Have a great weekend.

Hugs,

P.S. Thanks to all of you!!!! I now have 200 followers!!!! Wow!

  2. Oh Betsy I saw the second icicle cross immediately the photo came up and then the first one you pointed out. I just burst into tears. I have been terribly in the doldrums today and your photo and God's AMAZING creation reminded me once again what Jesus suffered for ME, pitiful sinner. Praise God for His wonderful love and His precious Son whose blood has washed me clean. Thank you my darling friend, for passing on this wonderful reminder of how I should always be thanking and praising God instead of worrying and being filled with self-pity. (((Hugs))) Jo

  4. Getting you in the picture really gives us a good idea how huge they are. All the shots are magical but the icicle cross is wondrous. But as someone else said it you look alittle chilly.

  5. That is so amazing to see the frozen solid falls!

  6. When I saw the cross it reminded me of the iron cross left in the rubble of 9/11. That must have been a beautiful day, and I pray you are having one today!

  7. Betsy, these are great pictures of a very scenic place. You are lucky to live so close to such a beautiful place so you can visit there often.

  8. You look so tiny way up there. George really took a hike to get that picture.
    The cross is awesome.
Congrats on 200 followers. Smart people know where to come.

  9. It's wonderful that you get to visit these falls while they are frozen! I love to find crosses in nature....it's like a reminder from God that He loved us enough to send his own Son to die for us!
    Have a happy weekend!

  11. You do look like you're shivering! I admire you both for going out there in cold enough weather to make icicles on the falls! So fascinating to see them form a cross and be reminded of our Savior!

  15. from the top to the bottom, betsy is always there! I want to know how you remember the names of all the many many falls you have visited? are they written down? if not your memory is much better than mine.

  16. The falls are massive, aren't they. The cross is there as a reminder to all of us. That's how God works sometimes, I believe, to just quietly know that he's there.

  17. These are amazing photos, Betsy. I am so glad you pointed out the size comparison one. I had not even noticed you standing up there!

  22. Oh my!! I had no idea these would be so stupendous! They were well worth waiting for. the first photo is amazing, so smooth on the top ans calm looking on the bottom! But until you scroll to the other pictures, you don't see how huge it is! I would not have seen you way at the top if you hadn't pointed it out! Not sure If I can find George yet. I think i may see him. Wasn't it very slippery? It would have been frightening to me, I don't think i would have been that brave. The cross is amazing!! I did scroll back and saw it from farther away, as well. When I see things like this, I veiw them as affirmations from God. Have you ever seen an ice halo? It's like a rainbow but not as colorful, made from diamond dust. My pictures of the one I saw are last October 14 and the post is called "Ice Halo". I also have pictures of a cloud that fell from the sky, and us in it. December 29 "The Cloud That Fell To Earth". your pictures kind of remind me of this type of thing. When I first looked at them I actually got goosebumps! God's creation continues to stun me all the time.

  33. This is my first time visiting you and I will be back. Your Burgess Falls is wonderful and the Ice Cross...what a treasure. You have an eye with the camera for the birds. Now I know where our bluebirds migrate to from our bitter cold winters of NorthCentral WI...You are so blessed to have them all winter.
    I love what I see

  34. What a wonderful place to relax and rinse mind and soul here.

I am loving your daily post. I love waterfalls too since I was a kiddie, I recall.

Thanks for giving us at least me, your life as a retired strong woman. It really makes me happy when I see women like you. Apart of the age, they're still stong and believe me or not, am gazing with your entire beauty. More prettier than those young ladies pretending what they are.

God bless on a lovely Sunday.
    xoxo

  36. These views are BEAUTIFUL but your world is sooooo cold I can't imagine being outdoors with you (no matter how bundled up) ... therefore I'm delighted to see these views from the comfort of my home via the computer. Thanks for sharing. I shared flowers from a recent walk at this WordPress site and dramatic skies at Small Reflections most recently.
