Well---it's now September, and most everyone is 'thinking' FALL (including me). Except for our beautiful Roses and other summer flowers, I am NOT a Summer person. I don't like the heat ---although I was a sun-lover for many years. When comparing the four seasons, Summer is my least favorite. I guess that Fall is Number 1, Spring is Number 2, and Winter is Number 3... However, IF we get SNOW here, Winter can move up!!!! ha
Be that as it may, I do have some more 'pretties' to share with you today---from August--in and around our yard. Above is another August rose bloomer, MR. LINCOLN. This red rose along with Veterans Honor are two of my fav's. More pictures are below.
This one is NEW DAY. You may remember that our pink roses showed off in early summer and the yellows have bloomed alot in August.
This one is named ELLA.
This yellow one is named SUNDANCE.
This rose (ABOUT FACE) really ate its "Wheaties" this month... Have you ever seen a rose stem grow to be SEVEN FEET tall?????? Good Gosh!!!! I made George (who is 6'4") stand beside that rose to show you how tall it is... Unbelievable, isn't it????
Here is another view of ABOUT FACE. You can compare it with our tall flag pole!!!!! Wow!
Here is another picture of our Autumn Joy Sedum in bloom. You can see a black bee on one of the blooms. I should have done a macro--but didn't think about it at that time!!!!
I have talked about how gorgeous our weather has been lately... On Sunday night, this was the sunset---as taken from our back yard, looking up the hill. We stood on our deck and watched the sky change colors. Awesome!!!!
The sky just got more and more pink and red... Talk about fabulous!!!!!
Finally, here is our first IRIS of the Fall. Its name is AUTUMN BUGLER. We have several reblooming Irises now ---but this is the only one which has bloomed so far. George says that this one actually bloomed early, so hopefully, off and on all Fall, we should have some more to share with you.
NOW---August is OVER and Fall has BEGUN...

ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful roses. Your husband must share his rose growing secrets to me...that is one tall rose you have there. If you prune it, will it bush? I am still waiting for an iris bloom here sigh.

I used to look at fall with dread when we lived in WI because I knew it heralded another cold grey winter. Moving back to the south (and retiring from work) has changed things dramatically. We have more sunny days that cloudy even in winter and I love the brisk (not frigid) mountain air.

We are now in our Spring time. Spring and Autumn are also my favourites. I don't like Australian summers. Scorching like hell.
How can summer be gone, it was only here for a couple of weeks. Really been a strange one but am not complaining.

ReplyDeleteOur weather has improved, the skies are clear and the daytime temperatures are in the 70's. The overnight temperatures drop down to the 40's -50's which is great for sleeping. I used to be like you and hate summers. Now I dread the winters even more. The below zero temperatures and bitter winds just chill me to the bone. Guess it's just another sign of aging.

Sorry I haven't been by for a while. My son had to see a specialist and have tests run.(I'll do a post soon on my health blog). I finally got to see a doctor for pain management but now have to continue the battle with workers comp to continue treatment. Been a bad 1 1/2 years, health wise, with me dealing with this injury. I seem to have passed it to my son and family. You may remember a few months back I posted about my brothers condition, well, they did brain surgery Monday on him. He's doing great!

I have never seen a rose that tall! Fall is also my #1 season, then spring, summer/winter. Winter and summer are tied. It NEVER....EVER snows here...maybe once in 10 years, and that only a inch or so

The other day I stopped at the Bridge of Flowers and I thought of you when I saw the roses there. I have never seen such an awesome display of flowers, the Dahlias were as big as dinner plates! I'll be posting some pictures.

Good optical illusion on the giant rose. And yes, fall is always something to look forward too, and each day bitter sweet as winter approaches. (But that's still a ways to go.) It's summer here in south Florida until ... well, all year!

What gorgeous roses you have. I especially like the pinks and reds. However I would be happy to grown any type of rose, I don't seem to have luck with them. I cannot get over the taaallll rose, it might be one for the record books! I cannot believe September is here. We had a very cold June and both June and July were very rainy so summer did't arrive here in Maine until a few weeks ago! I hope fall hangs around a bit before the snow flies! Oh and the sunset was spectacular, a private show for you and George!
