Deer Deer Deer
Yesterday was a sunny but fairly cold day in the Glade. There were quite a few birds out, but I didn't get any new photos. But, about 4 p.m., I glanced out on the golf course fairway right behind our house--- and what to my wundering eyes should appear but NO miniature sleigh but eight (NO--there were TEN) tiny (NOT so tiny) Reindeer!!!!!! TEN????? WOW!!! I've never seen a group of TEN of them before. How special is this!!!! Hope you enjoy my photos!!!! Be sure and enlarge them for better views.
Hope you enjoyed my deer-deer-deer pictures!!!! We are so lucky to live in this area--where these beauties are protected.
Hugs,
Fantastic deer shots! I can't believe how close up you were able to get to them w/ your camera lense.
ReplyDeleteWith that many do they destroy your vegetation, and decorative plants around your home? Beautiful animals, but I know that on Long Island, NY and in CT, they have become a nuisance in suburban areas. Here in the Adirondacks huting seasons keeps the population trimmed out. You certainly got some great shots of them.
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't ever eat your beautiful roses! Amazing to see so many of them - great shots!
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet pictures Betsy.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh ... the swift, white-tailed deer! We have a ton of them around here, but I always love to stop and watch them. Fascinating animals!

Oh My GOODNESS!!
ReplyDeleteI would have been jumping up and down for a photo op like this!!
Love the deer pictures! I did see three yesterday morning near my kids school. Didn't get a picture.
ReplyDeleteI need to carry my camera with me.
They are there often. One morning some high school kids stopped to help a young deer that was caught in a fence. On the radio they were saying tell him not to do that he will get hurt. All worked out well that time neither the kid or the deer were hurt.
Personal deer musings. Having a bit of Native American ancestry as part of my heritage (Seneca -Iroquois), I own a pouch made from white deerskin and otter that I wear with my traditional handmade beaded wool dress and leggins. I have eaten venison. Hunting should IMHO be done responsibly rather than just for sport.
ReplyDeleteOnce I was driving down a dark country road at night in Southern Maryland with a developmentally disabled passenger. Deer ran straight at the car and we hit it at about 50 miles an hour. In fact, the car spun around and hit the deer twice. Miraculously, nobody was hurt and there was only $6 worth of damage to a headlight.
To end on a lighter note, once while stopped at a traffic light near a deer crossing sign in Amherst, New York, a family of five deer happened to cross right at that exact moment ... and they crossed with the light, right by the sign, like they could read and knew they had the right of way! Amazingly true.
And any time you can photograph ten deer, now that's fun! :-)
Bambi X 10!!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute.
I am so happy to hear they are protected too.
They are cute!
ReplyDeleteOh my! That was quite a crowd of them. Wonderful that you were able to get pictures and share them with us. Thank you Betsy!
ReplyDeleteI seen deer last night also, but they sure weren't about to stand still for me to get a good photograph. I bet you had a blast just seeing these.
ReplyDeleteI never get tired of seeing deer!!
ReplyDeleteI guess the golf course is a great grazing area if you're a deer, isn't it? That's a really pretty group of critters - they look very contented. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots. You must be using your new zoom lens and it's working wonderfully. You are lucky to see them right out your window.
ReplyDeleteAre they not the most peaceful looking creatures?!?! I love em'. Thanks Betsy for posting these pics.
ReplyDeleteMust have been a conference or special meeting or something! These shots are great and I'm sure glad you always have the camera ready to take photos to share with us.
ReplyDeleteWow, Betsy, that just spells
ReplyDeleteS-M-O-R-G-A-S-B-O-R-D up here!! lol
Aww..aren't they beautiful....I too am happy to see them here...
ReplyDeleteThat's a deer baby boom if I ever saw one!
ReplyDeleteI have to travel to Cades Cove for pictures like that. 10 deer!! Great photos Betsy.
ReplyDeleteYour deer pics are great. I've never seen so many at once. I get them here too, but only one or two at a time.
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet deer pictures. Don't you just want to pet them they look so soft. Glad you got to see it and I'm so glad you shared them.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet and gentle and graceful! How lucky you are to have so many around - wonderful "group" shots!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat experience to see so many at once...and in the daylight! Loved your Night Before Christmas refernce, Betsy. :-)
ReplyDeleteElegant creatures. You were so lucky to see that many at once.
ReplyDeleteAnd they're keeping the grass trimmed. It's great to see your green grass. Our snow from the last snow storm is just beginning to melt. I may see grass again by the weekend.
Awww - I wish I could keep one as a pet - they all look so sweet!
ReplyDeleteYes,you are indeed lucky to have the deer so near.Hey,that rhymes and I'm not even a poet.LOL
ReplyDeleteBlessings,Ruth
Deer everywhere !
ReplyDeleteWe have noticed them coming out of the woods again, one by one, last count fifteen....all in a row.
They run between the rock walls and over into the pasture....
I love them, but unfortunatley, a lot of hunters love them in a different way :(
Great pictures !!
Wow, those are beautiful shots. We have turkey and deer that cross our property quite often. They are so fun to watch!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Mandy
I sense that deer used to roam the plains in herds by the thousands.
ReplyDeleteThere's quite a crowd there, huh. Nice close shots.

Those are wonderful shots, Betsy! Where I used to live, the deer would congregate in a field next to our house every night. When we'd shine a flashlight out there, we'd see about thirty pairs of eyes. But I never got any good shots (camera shots, that is). To tell the truth, even though I think they are lovely animals, I held a bit of a grudge against those deer since they ate my hostas and rhododendrons down to nubs every single year. But they sure are pretty.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful creatures. I use to go sit in hunting stand & watch them. Turkeys & fox also. Nothing like watching wild life in their habitat. But they can be dangerous. They will attack you sometimes if they are injured.
ReplyDeleteDo any of you remember when the big buck named "Streamer" was killed in Cades Cove? A couple ------ from Fl. went up there & of all things they used silencers on their guns. They wound up not getting anything out of it like they should have. I said they should have been sent to prison. That was a federal offense.
Wow! A whole herd of them!! Glad you were able to capture them with your camera. Nice pics. Cute deer.
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful! They look like they are enjoying your grass. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your photos, my deer! :)
ReplyDeleteThey came looking for the daylilies...looking to see if they were coming out of the ground at all yet. :)
ReplyDeleteWent to Rockwood, all my birds are gone! But I put out food, and I am sure they will return. I did see the Sapsucker up high in that tall tree. And 2 Chickadees.

Thanks to all for stopping by today... I didn't see the deer today--but it was MUCH warmer and lots of people were outside. Deer don't come around much when they see people.
ReplyDeleteThe Deer are beautiful --and thank goodness they don't come in our yard since we spray Liquid Fence on our pretty flowers. Thank Goodness for the Liquid Fence.
Hugs to all,
Betsy
Oh what dear deer. They are so pretty aren't they. We have quite a few around here too. They can jump the fences like crazy. MB
ReplyDeleteBetsy: You are soooooo lucky to get the whole herd of deer close to your home.
ReplyDeleteLove the deer photos! 10! Wow! :D
ReplyDeleteExcellent pictures. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow! It's a HERD of deer! Absolutely gorgeous! My personal favorite deer story happened when I was a teenager... I was horseback riding with my friend Sarah on a path in the woods and a HUGE buck jumped out in front of us - we ALL froze (luckily our horses didn't freak out) - everyone locked eyes - and then the buck jumped back into the woods on the other side of the path and we continued on our way. The whole "interaction" took maybe 10, 15 seconds.... but time really stood still for it. It was magical.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I will add it to my blogroll and be back often!
