Baker Falls in Tennessee
In yesterday's blog, I mentioned that we saw SIX new waterfalls this past weekend. Two that I showed yesterday were Rutledge Falls and Machine Falls. Today, I will show you the 3rd waterfall of the day. This one (pictured above) is named Baker Falls. It is located near Normandy Lake (northeast area) between Manchester and Tullahoma, TN.
This waterfall is located on private property, but the owners give permission to visit the waterfall. There was a parking area --and we were asked to post the words "Baker Falls" in the front window. Then we walked down through the yard to the falls. The owners have obviously put in much time, effort and money building a GREAT area down to the falls. They have put in steps that go all the way to the bottom. They have landscaped the area with beautiful English Ivy. There are vantage points along the way down. Both George and I were impressed ---and wished that we lived in an area with a waterfall on our property.. BEAUTIFUL!!! There are more pictures below.
From the vantage point where George is standing, you can see the brink of Baker Falls. Baker Falls plunges 30 to 40 feet over a ledge. A small, natural grotto is behind the falls.
George walked down to the lower level, while I stood above for awhile admiring this beautiful area.
Now I am standing below George. He is standing at the top of this set of stairs. Note the ivy around him!!! Like I said, they have done a fabulous job of making this waterfall accessible.
I am on the lowest level (which is a good sized overlook) at the base of the falls. Even though there wasn't very much water coming over this waterfall, both George and I enjoyed visiting it very much.
Hugs,
So pretty Betsy. I love how the waterfalls are trickle like. I bet it sounded so soothing to hear.
ReplyDeleteHow nice of the people who owned that land to share it with you and then you with us. Very nice!
How great it would be to have your own waterfall! Glad those owners were nice enough to let you check it out!
ReplyDeleteWaterfalls are always beautiful. To be honest, I figured you guys were gone for all weekend so I didn't check your blog. Shows you what assuming will do doesn't it? :)
ReplyDeleteBetsy: The weather looks spectacular for your trip.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you two had a nice trip. The falls are so pretty. I'm wondering if you have a book on waterfalls or how do you locate so many?
ReplyDeleteIt's so interesting to see all the different variations. They are all very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy, I am sorta back. I can post a comment on your blog but I cannot post on my blog. I don't have a virus or anything bad, it is just a server problem. So I am glad I am not infected because I would not infect anyone else. NO!!!
ReplyDeleteYoue waterfall pics are so wonderful. Aren't you fortunate to live in such an area. I must come visit.
I took a picture of a frozen waterfall yesterday and can't wait to post it just for you and George.
Take care. MB
Yes, Baker Falls is a great place! I am heading to Greensboro but once I get settled, I will try and come up with a list of some the waterfalls that I know of around Tullahoma and Manchester.
ReplyDeleteThe story that I have always heard about "The Lady of the Falls" was that Pop Jennings (who purchased the land with the falls in the 50s) was a state representative. They were doing a renovation of the capitol building in Nashville and had taken a large number of statues and just tossed them in a heap to bury as trash. Pop saw the waste and dug through the pile until he found one that was unbroken - brought her home to overlook the falls.
That's the story I've hears - don't know the truth of it though;)
A very gentle pretty falls. Looks like it would be neat to stand under this one.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous pictures. I love the story of how the family have opened up their property to share with others. That is almost unheard of these days!! How wonderful are they????!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe both of you have nice, contented smiles.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Betsy! I Love Waterfalls but not as much as you. Ever heard of Sliding Rock North Carolina? It is Nature's Water Slide.

How nice that the owners make this lovely waterfall accessible. It is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know who Baker is/was, and I mean no offense to him/her, but that falls is too pretty for such an ordinary name. I'd be making up my own for it! It looks like old-fashioned thin white hair that's been braided, like women did a long time ago - maybe Grandmother Falls, or something like that.
ReplyDeleteWow and not admission fee?
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you can add to your waterfall collection.
Awesome looking Cedar Waxwing on your previoius post~ I'm not familiar with them, but will be on the look out now.
I think you and George should put together a coffee table waterfall book! You certainly have enough beautiful pictures and you look so darn cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you two were able to get out there & explore & that you had such a good time doing so! You both look so happy!!! I really like the photo on George's page too of the both of you!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I forgot to answer your question about seeing my grand-daughter - No, I haven't been able to see her since the day after Christmas, but I'm still hoping & praying - I did talk to Justin (her daddy) last Sat & he promises me that we'll be able to see her soon. I don't know why we can't more often, but we'll see what happens!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for asking - I appreciate your concern & prayers!!!!!!!!
What a lovely and delicate waterfall. I wonder what kind of insurance the landowners carry,... just in case! It's obvious they have put a lot of work and spent a lot of money making it available for the public. How nice of them to give permission.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your exciting explorations with us! I love this wispy waterfall. How generous of the owners to allow visitors and even provide such a lovely access. I'm truly impressed!
ReplyDeleteOh Betsy, what great photos of you, George and the falls. I agree that the owners have done a great job of making it all very scenic. The ivy is a very pretty backdrop to the photos. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a really beautiful spot Betsy ... and wonderful that the owners are willing to share it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful falls. I like the grotto area behind it, too.
ReplyDeleteHow generous of the owners to allow access and even provide a nice walkway and overlook.
You're so lucky to live in such a beautiful area, I'm glad you had a good getaway:)
ReplyDeleteDear Betsy, This really is a beautiful set of waterfalls.
ReplyDeleteI must share with you when I first read the title I didn't think waterfalls. I read Baker (as in cookies, bread, etc.) and tripping and falling. So it was really comical what went through my head when I read Baker Falls in Tennessee.
I like your concept of collecting waterfalls, and these are lovely ones indeed. I can tell that you are gradually becoming a birder, too. Maybe you should come join the festival in west virginia at the end of april!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteI really do wish we lived somewhere where we could visit places like this without having to travel for many hours!
That is so special to have people open their property for others to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,Ruth
I never really considered waterfalls, but you have gotten me interested..not that I could do the hiking..but going to see them would be great..Michelle
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!!!..m.
ReplyDeleteThanks to all of you for your nice comments. I emailed some of you (if I have your email address) if you had questions or thoughts that I needed to respond to...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have your emails --if you will send them to me (betsyadams@mac.com).
Hugs to all,
Betsy
Oh this looks like such a beautiful place. I really need to get back to TN for a vacation soon.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love the sound of waterfalls--it is such a relaxing and peaceful sound. I'm glad you and George had such a great trip. :D
