We had s...I grew up with those unknown apples too. We had several big pear trees nearby and always ended up getting lots of both. I still have a couple of little trees, but they didn't do much this year. I blame it on a late freeze (or early since it was Spring). Have you tried a Winesap? One tree is those and it's a beautiful dark red, but I haven't seen it in stores. Have a great trip!!! Jonalicious are a cross between Jonathan and Red Delicious...I don't like Red Delicious at all...if I were tasting them to see if they were ready to eat, I didn't swallow it...so you know I really don't like them. But the Jonalicious is so crisp and kind of the sweet/tart flavor...and they keep well.<br /><br />My favorite is the Blushing Golden but I have never heard of anyone else having them...never seen them anywhere else.
