AND NOW FOR A FEW SURPRISES:

Autumn Joy Sedum NOW  (9/27/15)
Remember the blog post I did on 9/14/15????   Well---if you missed it,  you need to go back and look at the difference in the colors in the past 2 weeks.  The Sedum is a gorgeous reddish/burgundy color now... It will gradually get darker and eventually will be brown.... Amazing how these change colors.

Pink Dogwood leaves changing in Fall  (9/27/15)
We still don't have much Autumn Color here on the Cumberland Plateau --but the dogwoods are beginning to turn... Pretty,  isn't it?

Four DEER in our Back Yard  (9/23/15)
I was standing on my back deck taking pictures... We have had quite a few deer around this time of year --trying to fatten up for winter  I guess... We saw 6 or 7 recently--but most of the time,  we only see 3 or 4 together.  As long as they stay away from our flowers (front and side yards) ---they can munch in the backyard....Deer are so pretty --and we have enjoyed watching the younger ones GROW up quickly.

Buttered Popcorn DAY LILY  (9/27/15)
Finally we are enjoying some of our re-blooming Day Lilies blooming this Fall.  This one is just gorgeous ---and stands above the rest as if it is IN CHARGE of the WORLD...  Don't you love seeing Day Lilies blooming NOW?????????

Well--hope you enjoyed seeing the Roses and the other 'stuff' today!!!!!   I do have a question if anyone knows a good answer.   For the FIRST time since I started putting out hummingbird feeders several years ago,  I am having trouble with BEES at the feeders.... Does anyone know how to get rid of the bees since they scare the little hummers away????  Thanks!!!!

Have a wonderful day/week.

SUNSETS (6 different evenings) in the Grand Tetons National Park

If you read my last blog post (last Monday),  you will know that George and I traveled to the Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park from August 17-28,  2015.

We had fantastic weather ---and were able to enjoy sunsets (from various places in the Tetons) on SIX different nights.... SO--this week I plowed through all of my sunset photos and tried to pick one or two from each evening to share with you.  Amazing how things can look so different from one evening to the next ---along with being in different locations...

Hope you enjoy the pictures today.  Click on them for enlargements.  The picture above was taken at Oxbow Bend on 8/24/15.   I love the reflections in the Snake River.

Our first sunset the night we arrived (8/19/15);   This picture was taken from Gros Ventre Road (as we were headed to Mormon Row Road to see the Bison).  How do you like my 'creative' tree???????

I love the sunbeams in this one... This was taken at the Snake River Overlook on 8/22/15.

One of my favorites showing sunlight over the water;  This one was taken at Lake Jackson on 8/24/15.

Another picture similar to the one at the top of the page --but on a different night;  This was taken at Oxbow Bend on 8/23/15.   That is a gorgeous place to see the sunset in the Tetons.

Another gorgeous sunset taken from the Snake River Overlook on a different evening (8/21/15)

This was taken on our last evening (8/25/15)--and as you can tell,  there were more clouds on that evening.  But the moon is shining brightly.  This picture was taken near the 'famous barn' at Mormon Row.

I will close with another favorite of mine taken the first evening we were there... This was taken on 8/19/15 at the Gros Ventre Road (near Mormon Row Rd)..
Hope you enjoyed seeing all of our sunsets... We were on a late night to bed schedule that week---so we didn't get up in the mornings in time to see the sunrise (maybe next time).  BUT--oh how we loved the sunsets!!!!!  That is God's Handiwork for sure.

Autumn Joy Sedum in our Yard --September 12, 2015

Hello Fellow Bloggers,   I just HAVE to share some of our crop of AUTUMN JOY SEDUM in our yard now... George's Daddy gave us these beauties several years ago --and I love them.   This has been one of the prettiest years we have had yet with these colorful FALL perennials.  And even though they say that these plants love the sun,  I have them in various places ---and some are definitely in the shade.. They are ALL doing well.

IF you want something that is hardy,  takes almost no care at all,  is resistant when it comes to most diseases,  is deer- proof----and one that gives a lot of color to your yard in the Fall----this one is what you want...

The neat thing about these little plants is that they begin one color ---and gradually change  colors as we go deeper and deeper into Autumn... They start out a very pale pinkish color (with almost a  very light bluish tint) ---and then gradually turn bright pink... Then ---the pink changes to a deep reddish color ---and ends with a rust-colored look (perfect for late Fall).

We have Sedum in 3-4 places in our yard ---and all of it is thriving and blooming right now.... Oh how I love these little plants!!!!   If you want more information about Autumn Joy Sedum,  you can 'google' it.. Here's one link I found,  so you can click HERE.

Enjoy our pictures.  I love Fall ---and our weather this weekend has been incredible.  The leaves are coming down (although we don't have any color much when it comes to leaves on our big trees).  BUT--we are having some signs of Fall (such as Burning Bushes turning red,  lots of Fall Wildflowers blooming, etc.)...  And this cooler weather this weekend will HELP.

Besides some Vinca that we planted (to replace the Pansies),  our Canna Lilies --and our gorgeous Roses----there isn't much else blooming here right now... Things are beginning to die out in anticipation of the upcoming Winter.

Be sure to click on the pictures for enlargements!

Some of our Autumn Joy Sedums are in our English Ivy/Vinca Minor (Periwinkle) bed.  It's nice to add color to all of that green.

These Autumn Joy Sedum plants are along our sidewalk leading from the garage around to the deck.

Here's another view of the Autumn Joy Sedum plants (along with Hostas --which are ending their lives now)---along the side of our home.

Here's one plant along the side of the house... Isn't it pretty?

Here's a close-up of one of our Autumn Joy Sedum blooms.  You can see how it is beginning to get darker in certain places.

Finally,  here is one more look at some of the blooms in our Ivy Bed.
Hope all of you are doing well... We are fine ---and trying to get back into the 'scheme of things' after our big trip to the Tetons and Yellowstone.  Maybe --one of these days---I'll get back to blogging on a more regular basis...

Hugs to all,

A Fantastic Trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone --August, 2015

George and I had a fantastic trip to Wyoming from August 17-28,  2015.   We visited the Grand Tetons National Park and also Yellowstone National Park... We had been in those areas in 2012 ---and decided to go back this year to see more...

This is my absolute favorite place that we have visited in our country.  There is so much to do there ---and each time we go,  we see many new and different things ---along with some of the things we want to see over and over....

In 2012,  we put an emphasis on waterfalls and geysers...  SO---this year,  we did visit a couple of waterfalls which we didn't see in 2012,  but we only saw ONE geyser this year.  In 2012,  we visited the Tetons in September...  At that time, the boat across Jenny Lake wasn't running (which was a disappointment).  SO---this year,  we decided to fight the summer crowds (which we hate) and go there in summer/August.

Right now,  we are talking about going back in 2018.   AND---since we did the Jenny Lake boat ride this year,  we will either visit the area in late Spring or early Fall.   I love September because of the Fall Colors ---but Spring might be nice also...

I could talk and talk and talk about this trip (and will have many more posts I'm sure) ---but decided just to pick out 15 pictures to share today.  Hope you enjoy this first batch of pictures ---and be sure to click on them for enlargements.

Above is a picture of one of our favorite places in Yellowstone,  the Canyons area.  We will continue to visit that area over and over ---each time we go.  When I can see mountains, canyons and waterfalls all together,  I am definitely in my 'happy place'.  The picture above is of LOWER FALLS of Yellowstone ---as taken from one of our favorite overlooks,  Artists Point.

Here we go ---riding the boat across Jenny Lake, in the Tetons.   We got out on the other side of the lake, and hiked to a new waterfall for us,  HIDDEN FALLS.  We also did some hiking on one of the lake trails while there.

We took this picture on the trail to Hidden Falls.   Our weather while there was PERFECT---the entire time..  It was cool in the mornings and at nights --but warmed up into the 70's during the daytime.

And OH the WILDLIFE.... I could do an entire blog on the wildlife we saw.  We saw BISON/Buffaloes,  Elk,  Pronghorn Antelopes,  and another very special one --which I will show you later in this post... Can you see the little 'hitchhiker' on top of the Bison in this photo?????  ha

One of our favorite hikes in the Tetons was to TAGGART LAKE.  The mountain views are terrific on that hike ---and then sitting there next to that lake just gazing at the mountains just made chills run all over me... SO NEAT!

Besides Hidden Falls in the Tetons,  we took another hike in Yellowstone to a waterfall which we had not seen in 2012.  This is FAIRY FALLS.

This is CLIFF GEYSER in the Black Sand Basin,  and was the only geyser we saw this trip.  BUT--walking around that basin was special since the colors were gorgeous.  We also walked around the Midway Geyser Basin ---and enjoyed seeing the Grand Prismatic Spring.

One thing that George and I love is to eat special foods in places different from our home area  in Tennessee... In 2012,  we ate alot of wild-game (bison, elk, etc.) ----and we wanted to do the same thing this year.   The above picture was probably our favorite dinner of our visit--although we liked all of the different foods each night we were there.  This dinner was at the Canyons Lodge area restaurant and consisted of Bacon-wrapped Wild-game Meatloaf,  asparagus,  fresh bread and mashed potatoes (with skins included).  EXCELLENT meal ---and we had bison as our meat for FOUR of the nights we were there... YUM.

Some of the gorgeous Thermal Areas in Yellowstone;  The colors were awesome!!!!!

One of our favorite hikes in Yellowstone  (in the Canyons area) was the RED ROCK TRAIL ---leading down to a great view of LOWER FALLS.   We hiked this trail both in 2012 and 2015.

One day we drove to Mammoth Hot Springs and walked up and down their intricate stair system build in and around the thermal areas.  This is ORANGE SPRING MOUND at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone.

Another wonderful hike in the Tetons is in the SCHWABACHER'S LANDING area.  This picture was taken in that area with the mountains in the background --and the Snake River nearby.

While at one restaurant  (in Lake Jackson Lodge Hotel),  we just HAD to try some HUCKLEBERRY CHEESECAKE.... I don't think I had ever had huckleberries before ---but I loved them.  They grow wild in this area. The huckleberries  taste a lot like blueberries --but may be a little more tart.  Anyhow--the berries really balanced out that sweet and rich cheesecake...  (Believe it or not,  both George and I lost weight during our vacation...  We did eat very small breakfasts and lunches ---so that we could enjoy dinners out each night.)

Here is my SURPRISE... I saw my FIRST MOOSE along the Snake River this year.  I didn't see a moose in 2012---so was ecstatic to see one (actually we saw TWO before the week was up) while there... SUCH EXCITEMENT....  They are HUGE creatures.   AND---I can't wait to show you that adorable Moose T-shirt George bought me this year.

I'll close with my favorite picture I took on this entire trip (I think).  Someone on Facebook told me that it may be the best one I have ever shown..  I don't think it was the photographer,  but in this case,  it was being at the right place, at the right time.  This was taken at Schwabacher's Landing in the Tetons showing the reflections  of the mountains and the puffy clouds...

I could go on and on showing you many of the other places we visited while in Wyoming,  but I'll stop and let you enjoy these today!!!!  Don't forget to click on the photos for enlargements ---especially that last one.

Hope you have a fantastic September.  There are two more gorgeous photos from our trip on my Photo Blog ---so don't miss seeing them.  Click HERE to visit that blog post.

Hugs,
