Tallulah Gorge State Park, GA--Summer
Tallulah Gorge is the 'crown jewel' in Georgia's state park systems. It would also qualify as being the state's 'waterfall park'. For it contains 5 fulltime waterfalls and 2 more wet-weather falls. Located to the north and east of the town of Tullulah Falls, its 3000 acres hold some of Georgia's most striking scenery. Designated a state park in 1992, this unit operates through a unique cooperative effort between the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia Power Company.
There is something there for everyone, from a short, leisurely walk, to an ardurous hike. There's camping, kayaking, swimming, water sliding at Bridal Veil Falls, bird watching, rock-climbing, and even tennis courts. We highly recommend this beautiful place to everyone.
Above is a picture of the gorge --as taken from an overlook. The Tallulah River flows through the gorge. Below are more pictures plus a short video. Be sure and click on the pictures because they are SO much better when viewed larger.
From an overlook, this is the top of Oceana Falls.
This is a view of the South Rim of the gorge. You can see the trail on the other side. (We were on the North Rim trail and took in five overlooks.)
Another view from the North Rim of the gorge; Note some of the rock formations along the north edge.
This is a picture of Hurricane Falls --from the overlook.
I just HAD to take a picture of this cute little yellow flower growing along the North Rim.
George stands at one of the overlooks getting the BEST pictures he can!!!
We had to walk down these steps in order to get to one of the overlooks. It was a hot day ---so I was prepared with my headband and my trusty ole' towel hanging over my camera strap!! I also had my water in my backpack---so I was prepared for the hot day!
Be sure and watch and listen to this little video. It is VERY short---but you can hear the water from L'Eau d'Or Falls (Water of Gold). I took the video at an overlook above the waterfall.
Hugs,
