Winter Bird Photos of My Backyard Birds--Part 2

That Mockingbird looks rather disgusted with all of the ICE around.  Poor Thing!  (Photo taken on 2/17/15)
Last Thursday I showed you the first 10 photos of my Backyard Birds which I took the past few months... Click HERE   to see that post if you missed it.  Today,  I'll share 10 more with you.   Hope you enjoy the pictures... The poor birds really struggled here this winter after the horrible ICE, snow and frigid temperatures we had... I love feeding them year-round --but especially during a cold winter.  Be sure to click on the pictures for enlargements.

I kept having to break the icicles off of the domes --so that the birds could get in there for some food.  (Photo taken on 2/16/15)

I love this photo showing the Northern Flicker at the top suet feeder,  the Finches in the plate feeder in the middle,  and the Robin on the deck rail at the bottom....The Robin was trying to find a way to get his LARGE body up to the house feeder.... Not sure he ever made it to that feeder!!! (Photo taken on 2/26/15)

The Pine Siskins flocked to the feeders (and deck) during our harsh winter.  (Photo taken on 2/18/15)

Love this picture of a Tufted Titmouse grabbing a peanut!!!  (Photo by 2/17/15)

I have a 'heated' Birdbath ---and the birds love it especially when they can't get water in other places during an icy/snowy winter.  (Photo taken on 2/26/15)   (NOTE:  I told you that our 'resident' Robin was here most of the time... He seems to be in most of the pictures... ha)

Our little Carolina Wrens are such cute little birds... They are always around ---and LOVE to 'sneak' into our garage and try to build a house in there (which is a NO-NO).....ha   (Photo taken on 2/17/15)

I seemed to take alot of pictures of the Northern Flicker Woodpecker (but they are such gorgeous birds).   (Photo taken on 2/16/15)

I love this picture of an Eastern Bluebird on the tree --waiting to come to the feeders.  (Photo taken on 2/18/15)

Always a favorite bird at our feeders!!!!  (Photo taken on 3/28/15)
I didn't see our Pileated Woodpeckers when the weather was so bad --but after it began to warm up,  they began coming back to have a snack at the suet feeders. Like the Northern Flickers,  the Pileated Woodpeckers are so gorgeous.  I never get tired of seeing them.

Now that Spring is here,  some of our winter birds are moving on (like the Pine Siskins).  There are now some new birds at the feeders (Brown Thrashers,  Blue Jays) ---and I hope to see the Rose-breasted Grosbeaks when they come through here while migrating... AND--of course,  we are looking for the Hummingbirds to return.

Happy Spring to YOU ---and Happy BIRDING!!!  Sorry I haven't been around in Blogland much lately.  We've been out having fun ---searching waterfalls and doing some hiking!!!!!

Hugs,

Winter Bird Photos of my Backyard Birds --Part I

A very cold and ICY Mockingbird;  See the ice on his tail?   (Photo taken on 2/16/15)
Off and on the past few months,  I have been taking pictures of my Backyard Birds...AND--I haven't taken time to blog about these birdies yet.   SO---today I will share 10 of my favorite pictures of my sweet little Backyard Birds who visited the Bird Kitchen...

Hope you enjoy the pictures... I have one more bird post to share soon..Be sure to click on the pictures for enlargements...

A Northern Flicker Woodpecker at the suet feeder on one of our rare sunny days;  (Photo taken 3/06/15)

Lots of ICE around ---and MANY BIRDS;  I always feel so sorry for the birds in weather conditions such as this.  (Photo taken on 2/18/15)

Our 'resident' Robin ---who was at the feeders most all winter,  and is still around in spring (even though he can now dig for worms);  I'll bet he thinks he OWNS the Bird Kitchen!!! ha  (Photo taken on 2/18/15);   Our big Rhododendron was damaged by the ICE STORMS.

The male Eastern Bluebird sitting on an icy branch --waiting to get his turn at the mealworm feeder;   (Photo taken on 2/19/15)

I love this little Downy Woodpecker... But---doesn't he look COLD?  (Photo taken on 2/17/15)

Another picture of a PUFFED UP Robin  sitting in the plate feeder;  I think he was there to keep the other birds away!!!!!!  Like I said,  he thinks he is in CHARGE... ha  (Photo taken on 2/17/15)

Another picture of the beautiful  Northern Flicker Woodpecker at the Suet Feeder;  (Photo taken on 2/16/15)

A beautiful male Northern Cardinal sitting on an icy branch;  (Photo taken on 2/1915)

George took this picture of a Sharp-Shinned Hawk --which visited the Bird Kitchen on 1/10/15.  Hawks are beautiful birds --but I am thankful that we don't have many around here.  Most of the time,  our crows chase the hawks away --and warn the little birds when a hawk is nearby.  BUT--I just had to share this picture since he is sitting on the top of our arbor.   Isn't he beautiful?

That is all for today.  I will show you more soon.  I am still so glad that I am able to feed the birds ---especially during the winter.  As you know,  we had a wicked winter this year,  so those little darlings were eating and eating ---trying to keep up their energy I'm sure...

Have a wonderful week/weekend.

From the Archives: Winter Birds

Today I will share with you another set of photos from my archives.  These are some of my favorite winter bird photos --which I have taken through the years...  Above is always a winter favorite,  a male NORTHERN CARDINAL.

Above is a year-round bird in our yard who ONLY visits the feeders during a very cold and/or snowy time... I love this photo of the AMERICAN ROBIN since he looks almost regal!!!!!

And,  here's a favorite bird --who comes to the feeders all year long,  but really enjoys the 'heated' bird bath in the cold winter... This beauty is an EASTERN BLUEBIRD.  (The other little bird in the picture is a GOLDFINCH.

Here's another favorite bird,  one of our MOURNING DOVES---just sitting on that cold snow...  They say that Doves are not the smartest of birds --but sitting on the cold snow has to be hard on the 'underside',  don't you think???? ha

Here's another good picture of our NORTHERN CARDINAL in winter.  The red really is pretty beside that white snow...

I absolutely adore this photo of a CAROLINA WREN.  He is sitting on a Rhododendron blossom.  The ice on his face and eyebrows makes him look like a  Grandfather Wren.... ha ha

Here's another cute little bird who only visits us during a snowstorm... This is the little DARK-EYED JUNCO... Isn't he a cute little guy?

Finally,  here is another of my favorite EASTER BLUEBIRD winter photos. Bless her heart.  She looks so COLD.  I love seeing how the birds get puffy --trying to stay warm...

I'm not sure that the winter of 2012-13 will provide us with enough snow in order for me to get some good WINTER BIRD photos.   SO---I'll just continue to enjoy my archived photos...

Have a great day.  I'll be 'out-of-pocket' for a few days --and won't be doing much blogging.  However,  I will post a blog on Friday... Just won't get to do much visiting... VERY BUSY hopefully having some FUN!!!!

Hugs,
