2010 Best Of...: ROSES -Part II

If you didn't see the first 6 roses I posted,  please click on OLDER POST at the bottom of this blog so see them.   Today,  I will post six more of my favorite photos of our 2010 roses.    Above is one of my favorite NEW roses in 2010,  PEPPERMINT SPLASH.  This picture was taken on 6/28/10.

This beauty is named STRIKE IT RICH.   Isn't it a gorgeous color?  This picture was taken 5/31/10.

This one is named PERFECT MOMENT.  I love the pink and yellow colors.  This picture was taken on 5/15/10.

This  beautiful rose is called SUMMER OF LOVE. This picture was taken on 6/20/10.

The colors in this rose are gorgeous.   Its name is SUNDANCE, and this picture was taken on 5/19/10.

Finally,   I saved my 2nd favorite rose in our yard until now.  These beauties are called VETERAN'S HONOR.  This beautiful red rose is HUGE and smells heavenly...  The picture was taken on 5/31/10.  (My 1st favorite rose was shown yesterday,  and was named Double Delight.) Hope you enjoyed all of my favorite 2010 Rose pictures...

We visited George's parents yesterday --and are working hard to get them to move in with their daughter in Tullahoma, TN.  They are 'thinking about it'.   George's sister has a great place for them --and they would be safe and well-taken-care-of...    Dad will be 99 in August and Mom will be 91 in May.  Both are legally blind --and still trying to live in their home, and remain independent.  Please pray for these two wonderful elderly people.

Have a great weekend and I'll see you on Monday.

2010 Best Of...: ROSES -Part I

We have had so many gorgeous ROSE photos this year ---that I couldn't just choose six of them to post in the "Best of" series... SO--there will be two posts showing some of the gorgeous ROSE photos we have enjoyed during 2010.

As you probably know, unless you are new to my blog,  George grows beautiful Hybrid Tea and Grandiflora Roses.  He has about 50+ different bushes in our yard.   ME?  I just get to enjoy them.  I have a bench in the front yard where I can sit and smell and view these beauties.  George also brings a blossom or bud  inside, most every single day during the season for me to enjoy.  Wow--who could ask for a better life than I have?????

Here are my 2010 favorites beginning with my all-time favorite,  DOUBLE DELIGHT.  This photo was taken on 5/13/10.

This beauty is named JOHN F. KENNEDY.   This picture was taken on 5/27/10.

This gorgeous rose is named GEMINI, and the picture was taken on 5/13/10.

I love this rose, named LOVE AND PEACE... This picture was taken on 5/15/10.

This gorgeous rose is named WILDFIRE... I love the colors in this beautiful rose,  and I think its name is appropriate. This picture was taken on 7/3/10.

Here's another rose named after one of our Presidents.  This one is named RONALD REAGAN.  It was taken on 5/31/10.

I will share six more tomorrow.  I love all kinds of flowers,  but roses are definitely a favorite of mine.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Several of you requested the recipe for my Orange Balls... I usually double the recipe--since I have to share with family.  Here 'tis!!!

Betsy's Orange Ball Recipe
  (came from her mother)

3/4 cup conf. sugar
1 lb. vanilla wafers-crushed
1 stick margarine--softhened
1 cup (or less) chopped nuts
6 oz can frozen orange juice (thawed and undiluted)
1 can or package of shredded coconut

Mix first five ingredients together and form into balls---roll in coconut.  Do not bake.  Makes about 4 doz. depending upon size.  I keep them in the refrigerator.  They seem to get better as they age a little.

2010 Rose--Part VII

Most of you know (unless you are fairly new) that George and I grow ROSES (Hybrid-Tea and Grandiflora). I should say that George grows Roses --since he is the one who loves them and cares for them--about 55 different varieties... I just ENJOY them... He spoils me by bringing a new Rose bud or bloom into the house most every single day just for me to enjoy.

I have published six blog posts so far showing pictures of our Roses. You can check out the other posts by looking at the sidebar, scrolling down to labels, and then clicking on ROSES 2010.Today I'm sharing 6 more of our beauties with you.

The neat thing about Roses is that they will bloom from early spring until late Fall. YES--they do take alot of work and upkeep, but this is one of George's hobbies --and he does an excellent job.

Above is one called MEDALLION. I love that apricot color. Below are more.

INGRID BERGMAN

TAHITIAN SUNSET

MELODY PARFUME

WELCOME HOME

SUMMER OF LOVE (my favorite in today's collection, although they are all beautiful)

We have our first reblooming Daylily in bloom now--just in time for Fall. I'm sure I'll publish pictures of our Fall Daylilies sometime. Love it when we get rebloomers...

Hope those of you on the East Coast don't get the brunt of Hurricane Earl. My prayers are with you all... We need rain--but not from a hurricane!!!!

Have a blessed Wednesday --and remember to take time to 'smell the roses'.

Hope you are enjoying our Roses this year. As you know, we have had an unusually hot summer, so like us, the Roses have struggled. But--they are hanging in there (thanks to George's tender care).

Thanks to all of you for sending RAIN our way yesterday. We had almost an inch of rain, the most we have had in a long time. Thanks be to God!

Today is our 109th Monthaversary!!! If you are fairly new to my blog, then you may not know that George and I didn't meet until we were age 59. We got married in 2001---so since we missed out on so many years together, we celebrate our love every chance we get these days. We got married on June 23---so we celebrate the 23rd of EVERY month.. Today, George is taking me to the Outback Steak House for dinner... YUM...

Have a great weekend, and I'll blog again on Monday.

I have a REQUEST that will help all of us who comment on MANY blogs each day. This has to do with the Comment Form you are using. There are 3 different forms you can choose from (Full Page, Pop-up-window, and Embedded). To find out which form you are using, go to your Dashboard and click on Settings. Then click on Comments. About halfway down the page, you will see the Comment Form.

I personally use and like the Pop-up-window form, but I also like the Full Page form. The one I do NOT like is the Embedded form. It takes much longer to post a comment on this form. IF you don't have a particular preference, my request is that you choose either the Pop-up-window one or the Full Page one. Thanks so much!!!! I try to visit MANY blogs each day--and this change would help tremendously. (I made this request about 5-6 months ago, but there are many new people coming to my blog now, and many using the Embedded form --which is the Blogger default one for some strange reason.)

Have a great weekend, and I'll blog again on Monday morning.

2010 Roses--Part IV

As most of you know by now (since I've mentioned it MANY times--ha), we have 55 different varieties of Hybrid Tea and Grandiflora Roses in our yard. George is the "Rose Man"---and really knows how to grow beautiful Roses.

I've also talked about how blessed I am to get a fresh rose on our table inside most every single day. He always buys the fragrant Roses ---so you can imagine how nice our yard smells --AND our home.

This is my 4th post showing more of our Roses. To see the other 3 posts, go to the right sidebar on my blog, scroll down to LABELS, and click on ROSES 2010. Here are six more today, starting with APRICOT NECTAR pictured above.

GLOWING PEACE

An old Swedish proverb says: "If I had a ROSE for every time I thought of YOU, I'd be picking ROSES for a lifetime." Hope you will enjoy the weekend, and thanks again for your friendship. See you Monday morning!!!

Happy Father's Day to all of the Papa's!!!!

Beauty All Around

While I recuperate from knee surgery, I will show you some of the beautiful things all around me --which have helped keep my spirits up. Above is one of my new hanging baskets given to me on Mother's Day by my son, Jeff. It's VERBENA and is really putting on a show for me. Below are more 'beauties'.

This is the other hanging basket that Jeff gave me on Mother's Day. It is FUCHSIA and is also blooming like crazy... I've enjoyed see these two hanging baskets SO much.

I can see these beauties from the house --while looking out toward the road. This is one of my favorite roses, VETERAN'S HONOR --showing off for ME. It is in the new flowerbed near the road. George brought one of the blooms inside for me to enjoy.

Here is another of my favorite roses, DOUBLE DELIGHT. George also brought one of these into the house just for me to smell.

These two lilies are new this year, and are called LOLLY POP. They are also in the new flowerbed next to the road. Aren't they pretty?

This is another new lily in our yard this year. Since I love all RED flowers, I just had to show him to you. His name is MONTENEGRO.

And---last but definitely not least, look at this 'beauty'.... I have waited so long to see a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER come to our deck to the suet feeder. We have lots of woodpeckers, but this gorgeous one has only recently begun coming to the feeder. I was so excited to finally get a picture of him.

About my knee surgery, the good news is that the knee is healing nicely and the swelling and bruising has gone down. AND--there is not much pain, and I can walk some on that leg. However, I don't know if it is the medication (which I am no longer taking) --or if I picked up a 'bug' at the hospital. But I have been horribly sick to my stomach, very weak, and running a fever for the past couple of days. I felt a little better yesterday afternoon---so I am glad that I could do this post for you. However, I have done no computer work all weekend --and don't know when I'll get back to normal. Please be patient with me --and pray for me to be patient (which is hard--ha) while I continue to recover. Hopefully, I'll be be feeling much better very soon.

Hugs,
