Autumn Ohio Trip 10/12

This is my 8th and FINAL post from our trip to Ohio from October 15-18, 2012 with great friends NEAL and Patti Treadway.  In order to see any of the other posts  from this trip  (mostly from Hocking Hills State Park near Logan, Ohio), please click HERE.

This post will include our trip to Lake Logan on Oct. 17 (after we left Hocking Hills) and then it will also include our trip from Ohio back to Tennessee on Oct. 18th.  Hope you enjoy the photos.  Be sure to click on them to see enlargements.

The picture above shows the Mute Swans at Lake Logan.   We talked to a man who lives near there, and he told us that these Mute Swans have been at that lake for several years. Aren't they pretty?

Here's a collage of the Swans and Ducks.  We sat on the bank and watched them for a long time.

Here is a photo of the beautiful lake and the Fall Colors all around us.

Ohio had the most beautiful Fall Colors last year of most anywhere we went.  We just happened to be there during the perfect week... Aren't these gorgeous photos?

Here is another photo showing the swans and some of the ducks...

Here is a collage showing the ducks along the bank of the lake.  There were quite a few of them--trying to find some shade where they could rest.

The next morning,  the Treadways headed back to their home in Indiana and we headed toward Tennessee.   We took the 'backroads' home ---and when we do that,  we always find something interesting to see!!!!   Above is a photo showing one of the roads we traveled on... Do you enjoy traveling the backroads like we do?

Guess what we found along the backroads?????  A COVERED BRIDGE!!!!!   This is the Cox Covered Bridge (built in 1884).  This beauty is in Vinton County,  Ohio.  Do you enjoy seeing covered bridges?   When I spotted this little bridge,  we immediately turned around so that we could get some photos.

All along the way,  we enjoyed the views all around us.   I'm not sure what river this was but it might be the Little Raccoon River...  Pretty though, isn't it?

After we got into Tennessee,  the GPS took us through the Catoosa Wildlife Management Area on a gravel road.   The Fall Colors along that route were AWESOME.

Here's a photo showing some of the beautiful Fall colors all around us.  Guess this proves that the Fall Colors in TENNESSEE (where we were now) were just as pretty as those in Ohio... We had a gorgeous drive home that day!

Finally,  here's another collage showing more of the Autumn Colors as we headed home that day.   All in all,  we had a marvelous trip.   Just being with good friends made it even more special.   I hope we have more trips with Neal and Patti... The four of us enjoy being together and we have so much in common.

Today is a special day for George and me.  We had our first date in 2001.... Think we'll celebrate today!!!!  YEAH!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and a Blessed Easter!   If you missed my Photo Blog post this past Wednesday,  be sure and click HERE

CONKLES HOLLOW, Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio

Goodness Gracious... What happened to January????  Time is flying when you are having fun I guess....Are you having fun????  I always have fun ---well,  most of the time... I still want to see some SNOW...ha ha

Today, I'm continuing to share more from our trip to Hocking Hills State Park near Logan, Ohio from October 15-17, 2012...  We met our good friends,  NEAL and Patti Treadway from Indiana there --and the four of us had a marvelous time together.

If you missed some of my other posts from that little trip,  you can click HERE to see 4 other posts.   Today,  I am sharing our time at CONKLES HOLLOW, in the state park.  When GEORGE and I first visited Hocking Hills in Early September of 2011,  Conkles Hollow was my favorite place... The greenery and lushness of that area was absolutely fabulous. I felt as if I was in Heaven!

This year, however,  I was a little disappointed since we were there in mid October --and much of the lushness had disappeared ---since it was later in Autumn.   BUT--it was still pretty,  just not as pretty as it was in early September.  To compare the photos from the two trips,  you need to click HERE to see the 2011 photos...

Today,  I'll share our 2012 pictures with you... Even though it wasn't quite as pretty,  Conkles Hollow is a beautiful place and I still recommend it --if you get to Hocking Hills sometime.

The picture above shows you some of the ferns and beauty around the area.  Be sure to click on all of the photos for enlargements.

George captured the photographer at work.... Note that I'm wearing my camera vest and carrying my water jug.... This girl is always prepared....  HA

This area really is a 'hollow'---with high cliffs all around...  One thing different from the 2011 trip was getting to see the Fall colors around....  AND Fall in Ohio was marvelous when we were there.

The path through the area was really nice...  You can also tell that it's fall because of all of the leaves on the ground!!!!

George is tall (about 6'4") ---so he almost had to bend over to get around the corner!!

Here is a collage showing your some pictures of that beautiful area...

Here is a picture George took of me on the trail...

Here's another collage showing the caves in that area.  There are two waterfalls there (Reckworth Falls and Lower Falls--which is inside a cave) ---but there was no water  (except for a tiny bit inside the cave) here again on this trip.

The picture on the bottom left was taken from INSIDE the cave looking out.  AND--the two on the right side were inside the cave --where George and I looked hard to find that tiny waterfall.  We could hear it trickling --but it was hard to see it!!!

Finally,  I'll close with a neat picture of the pretty ferns in that hollow.  The ferns are what I remembered most from that first trip there in 2011.  SO gorgeous...

After leaving Conkles Hollow,  we stopped and took pictures of this gorgeous little church as we passed by.  Isn't it pretty?????

WELL---that was our first busy day together...  I finished the day with 16,351 steps on my pedometer --which is about 5 miles...  The four of us celebrated by eating some delicious BBQ at Millstone Barbecue in Logan...

More to come... It was a GREAT day --and just being with Neal and Patti made it even nicer!!!!  Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday.

+++++++++++++++
UPDATE:  7 a.m  We finally got some SNOW here (about 1-2 inches)... BUT--it's 10 degrees outside.... I'll share photos later...

ROCK HOUSE at Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio

Colors of the rocks at the Rock House at Hocking Hills State Park
I'm playing catch-up now --for awhile... We've been on so many trips and I just haven't had time to post all of my photos from these Fall trips... SO--today,  I'm sharing another post from our Ohio Trip which we took on 10/15-18/2012 with our friends Patti and NEAL Treadway.

Today's pictures are from our hike to the ROCK HOUSE in the Hocking Hills State Park, near Logan, Ohio.  This is a fabulous CAVE --where we walked both inside and outside.

The thing which I loved was the color of the rocks in the area.  Above is a picture showing some of this fabulous color. Aren't they just gorgeous?  Please enlarge these photos... You'll love seeing them bigger!!!

Here is a collage showing pictures of Neal and Patti and George at the Rock House.  I love the picture of Tiny Patti (she really is tiny) in the top right photo --climbing around the cave!!!

This is one of several openings --looking inside the cave.    I couldn't get over the marvelous colors.

Here are some more pictures of the cave ---from the outside looking in.  The middle photo is the narrow entrance we used in order to go inside.

I love this picture of George looking around after we got inside the cave... It was such a fabulous experience ---and it's just one of those where  you just needed to BE THERE.

Here are more pictures from inside the cave.  The center picture is George --at one end.  The one at the bottom right is Neal, Patti and me.

Here is another picture taken from inside the cave looking out of one of the holes in the rocks...

Here is one more collage of us looking around inside that cave.  We were just mesmerized by what we saw in there.  The photo on the right shows me at the narrow entrance where we entered the cave.

Finally,  here is one more photo of the gorgeous colors of the rocks around the Rock House... Wouldn't you love to see this place?  We highly recommend it.

Hope you had a fabulous weekend... The SUN came out here --and even though it's quite cold,  it feels good to dry out and see those blue skies.  Praise God!

Have a fabulous day.

Cantwell Cliffs, Ohio 10/16/12

We've had several trips this Fall  (our Yellowstone trip,  our Asheville trip,  and our Ohio trip)---and I am juggling the photos on my blog... Hope you don't get too mixed up!!!!!  Anyhow---today's blog is from our trip to Hocking Hills State Park near Logan, Ohio, which we took from October 15-18 with our friends Patti and NEAL.   (Be sure to check out Neal's blog.  They were on a trip to Glacier when we were at Yellowstone.  He has some amazing photos.

While at Hocking Hills,  we visited all of the different areas and did quite a bit of hiking.  The weather was perfect and the Ohio Fall colors were TREMENDOUS.  We had a great time together!

This post is at one of the areas we visited on 10/16,  called CANTWELL CLIFFS.  The trails at Cantwell were 'interesting'...  To say that we got lost is not totally correct.  However,  I think we walked to the moon and back before getting back out of that area!!!! ha.... BUT--we did see lots of pretty Fall Colors (as in the photo above) along the way... Be sure and click on the photos for enlargements.

The trail led us down some stairs!!!!!  (Glad I had lost some weight before going down there!!!!) ha ha

Here's a picture of some of the steps (there were many more), as we went down into that canyon.

I took this picture of George  (and Patti --who was tiny enough to easily get through these rocks) after I got down that rock trail...

Here is a picture of the big cliffs --after we got down into that canyon.

We hiked down into the 'bowl'....  The rock formations were SO neat!!!! (That is Neal on the right.)

Here is a 'waterless' waterfall...  But you can see where water does come down during the rainy season.

I like this picture of our TRAIL--as we hiked down into that canyon.

We hiked and hiked and hiked --once we got down in the canyon area.  The trail was supposed to be a loop trail --but somehow,  since it wasn't marked well,  we missed the loop.... At least,  while we were hiking,  we did get some great pictures of the trees above and around us.

Here's another beautiful photo of the Fall Colors that day.

AND---here's ONE more!!!!!  Did I say that the Ohio Colors were fabulous when we were there???

On the way back up that canyon,  Patti and Neal took off on one trail, and George and I went back another way....  I looked at that picture above and said:  "Yipes... We have to go up there through that???????"  ha ha .... We made it --but Neal said that THEY had chosen the better path!!!!!  Oh Well---we got lots of good exercise at Cantwell Cliffs.

Hope you have a wonderful week and THANKSGIVING.  We are taking a blog break and will be back next Monday,  Nov. 26...   God Bless each of you during this wonderful Thanksgiving Week.

AND---please take a minute to read this fabulous blog post (click HERE)  which is what Thanksgiving and our country is all about.  Thanks, Brenda, for this post.  Brought tears to my eyes.

Hugs,
Betsy
