April 21-- an Important Day

Why do you think April 21st is important to George and me?????  If you have read my blog for over a year,  you will KNOW.....Here's our story: In 2001,  when George and I were dating,  he took me to Fall Creek Falls State Park here in Tennessee  on a gorgeous Saturday --which happened to be April 21, 2001!!!!

Several things are important about this April 21, 2001 date:
-This was the beginning of our love of waterfalls... Little did we know in 2001 that we would have visited at least 450 different waterfalls by this date in 2011. Fall Creek Falls has SIX waterfalls --and we enjoy seeing all of them,  especially after much rain (which we have had this spring).
-Fall Creek Falls is where George first KISSED me...  Now--that is awesome!!!!
-AND,  Fall Creek Falls is where George and I first told each other that we loved each other.  All of this happened on April 21, 2001!!!!

Because we love to celebrate,  we return to Fall Creek Falls on this date every year.  This year was no exception.   Last Thursday,  we drove to Fall Creek Falls and enjoyed seeing all six of the waterfalls.  We had dinner in the lodge restaurant--which we have done each year also.   It was a wonderful day.

Today I will share with you some photos from this year's April 21st trip to Fall Creek Falls..  Above is a picture of one of the waterfalls,  called the CANE CREEK CASCADES.  As I said previously,  since we have had LOTS of rain,  the waterfalls were all flowing well...  They were just beautiful today!

This is the 'main' waterfall at the state park,  named FALL CREEK FALLS.

And this one is another fav,  but not as easy to get to.  George took this picture using his long lens,  since he was at an overlook quite far away.  BUT--it's one of the best pictures I have seen of PINEY FALLS.

There is a little dam on Cane Creek surrounded by some interesting rock formations.   We usually see birds going in and out of these 'cave-like-holes' in the rocks.  But, during this trip,  we didn't see any birds.  (Maybe they were napping!! ha)  Anyhow,  the rock formations are so interesting I think.

Here are more of the rock formations.   I love seeing the reflection in the water here.

Just look at 'our' mountains..  Are they not just awesome???  This picture was taken from one of the overlooks at the Fall Creek Falls gorge.

Finally,  here is a picture of the two 'lovebirds'....Note what is written on the shirts we are wearing!!!!!!!!   Do you believe that?????   ha ha

Hope you enjoyed our April 21st visit to Fall Creek Falls.  By the way,  I did get a KISS this year also (actually, several of them)... YEAH!!!

Visit with Cousins at Fall Creek Falls

On Sunday,   George and I drove south of Crossville to one of our favorite places,   Fall Creek Falls State Park.  We met two of my cousins and their extended families for a delicious buffet at the park restaurant.  Besides eating,  we sat around and chatted for a couple of hours.  It was a great time.

Above is a picture of the nine of us...  Seated on the left is my cousin Carol --and John (hubby) behind her. They live in Michigan.  Seated on the right is Marvin and wife Carol behind him.  You know George and I in the middle with our 'matching' shirts... ha ha .....  Behind us is Dar and Wes.   Dar and Carol (the Carol on the right) are sisters of  my cousin Carol's husband John.   The two sisters and hubby's live in Sparta--which is southwest of Crossville.   And my cousin Bonnie (in the white blouse) lives in Florida with husband Dave (who was not with us since he is hang-gliding this week).   Below are more pictures...

Here are the 3 cousins:  Bonnie,  Betsy and Carol.   Bonnie and Carol are 1st cousins since their mothers were sisters.  I am a 2nd cousin since my mother was a sister of their grandmother.   Got all that????? ha ha .... These two gals are like my sisters --since I never had one!!!!!   Don't you love the SQUINTS???  We were looking STRAIGHT into the sun...

After dinner,  George and I just had to take time to drive around the park searching for Fall colors...  Even though it's been very dry here this year,  we did find lots of color to share with you.   The picture above was taken from inside the car---looking out of the front window... The roads all around the park were dotted with Fall colors --and just so pretty... It was a beautiful day to be there.

This is a picture taken near Cane Creek Waterfall --which was mostly dry... Can you see how dry the creek is in the picture above????  We have NEVER  EVER seen this small amount of water in this area---and you know that we have been to Fall Creek Falls a trillion  million times.  ha.... I keep talking about how dry we are this year in this area---but seeing no water at the Cascades or Cane Creek Waterfall just about blew my mind!!!!

There was a little water coming over Fall Creek Falls (not pictured)---but not nearly as much as we usually see.  However,  the Fall colors near the falls,  and on the nearby bluffs and gorge were really pretty.  Don't you agree?

This is always one of my favorite pictures of  the mountain ranges surrounding Fall Creek Falls State Park.  It was nice to be here on a beautiful Autumn day in Tennessee.

Finally,   a sweet lady took our picture together since George took theirs...  Hope you enjoyed experiencing Autumn in Tennessee. Even with the drought,  we truly enjoyed our day at the state park.

++++++++++++++++++++++++
I will be taking a blog break for the rest of the week.   I 'may' do a blog on Friday--but probably will wait until Monday.  I will catch up with your blog posts next week.  Hope all of you have a fabulous week.  Enjoy yourself and get out in nature---that's most important.

Fall Creek Falls State Park --4/21/10--Part II

This is Part II of our day at Fall Creek Falls on Wednesday this week. Above is a great picture of the mountains and canyons around the state park. Like I said yesterday, we had a gorgeous spring day which we thoroughly enjoyed. Below are more pictures.

George is taking pictures above the Cane Creek Cascades brink.

See that green grass in the background???. Well---in 2001, we (along with many other people, since it was a Saturday) sat on a blanket looking at each other's photo albums. That's where the first kiss happened!!!!!! Wooooooooooooo!

I got a great picture of one of the MANY Buzzards --who fly in circles around the canyon... This picture was taken near what is called Buzzard's Roost. Isn't he pretty?

George captured this picture of me trying to take some pictures of the Cane Creek Cascades.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
WARNING: A PDA coming up!!!!! You may want to close your eyes!!!!

I got my KISS!!!!!! Yeah Rah!!!!!

As I said yesterday, we are out-of-town for a few days. I have no idea whether we will have internet service where we will be... SO--if you don't hear from me for a few days, just remember that I'll be back SOON.

Have a great week!!!!

Fall Creek Falls State Park --4/21/10--Part I

George and I had a beautiful day yesterday at Fall Creek Falls. You will have to read yesterday's post (click
HERE) in order to know WHY we were there!!!!!! Today and tomorrow, I will show you a few pictures from our beautiful day! Above is a picture of the Cane Creek Cascades.. Below are more.

We always enjoy seeing the deer when we go to the park. This one stopped and looked at us --but didn't run away!!! I think they are used to people --especially ones like me who are taking their picture.

I was fascinated at the reflections in the water here. This is near the area where I got my first kiss in 2001..... We had to relive that moment you know!!!

'
Spring is a beautiful time to visit the park since there were lots of dogwoods blooming ---along with many beautiful wildflowers. These little blue flowers reminded me of the Bluebonnets I used to see in Texas. Aren't they pretty?

One of our favorite large waterfalls at Fall Creek Falls is one that is in a different area of the park from most of the others. This one is named PINEY FALLS--and we are viewing it from an overlook.

Here's the "Happy Couple" talking about all of our wonderful memories we have had together since that special date on April 21, 2001.

I'll post more pictures tomorrow . But --you need to know that we will be out-of-pocket for about 3 days while we head to West Virginia to do some waterfalling!!!! I will have the laptop--IF we have Verizon service. BUT--if I don't get to your blogs, don't give up on me. I will try to catch up sometime!!!!

Hugs to all,

April 21st---Special Day!!!

George and I started dating on March 29, 2001. Our love for each other grew very quickly.. It was a very special date on April 21, 2001 when George took me to Fall Creek Falls. That was where I got my FIRST KISS and where we both told one another that we were falling in love with each other. It was also the beginning of our love for visiting all kinds of different waterfalls!!!

SO---almost every year since 2001, we have revisited Fall Creek Falls on this day. Bet you can guess where we are going today?????? YES---to Fall Creek Falls, and I'm sure we will share our pictures from this wonderful place soon.

Today I will show you a few pictures from some of the previous April 21st trips to Fall Creek Falls. The picture above is of two of the six waterfalls there, Fall Creek Falls (on left) and Coon Creek Falls (on right). This picture was taken on April 21, 2006. It was pouring rain that year, so we didn't get any pictures of the two of us. Below are more pictures.

Taken on April 21, 2008 at the overlook at Fall Creek Falls, with Rockhouse Falls in the distance

Taken at Cane Creek Cascades on April 21, 2009

Finally, here's Cane Creek Falls from the side---along with rainbow, which I'm sure was there JUST for us on our special day, April 21, 2009.

For your information, IF we have pictures from 2003-2005, they are unavailable at this time. We did visit Fall Creek Falls during those years though.

Hope you have as wonderful a day today as I'm sure we will have!!!!!

Fall Colors at Fall Creek Falls

Here's another set of pictures from our Sunday visit to Fall Creek Falls with family. I was surprised to see as much Fall color as I did. That was the only sunny day we've had in awhile. The rains came back Monday---and it's supposed to rain most of the week. What's up with that????

Above is a picture of Fall Creek Falls in Autumn.. We have lots of picture of this waterfall and many when it had MUCH more water coming over the falls. BUT--the Fall colors around it are really pretty, aren't they? Below are more.

These two trees with their red and yellow colors were so pretty--with the sun hitting them.

Here's another picture of the gorge/canyon at Fall Creek Falls in Autumn.

This Sugar Maple is just beginning to change colors. I can only imagine how pretty it will be in another week or two.

A trip to Fall Creek Falls would not be complete if we didn't see some deer.. We actually saw several --mostly late in the afternoon.

Here's one last picture of us --sitting at the top of the gorge. George was again the picture-taker. Note those beautiful mountain ranges in the background. This place is just like a piece of what I think heaven will be!!!!!

More from Fall Creek Falls

Here's another set of photos from our trip on Sunday with family to Fall Creek Falls (about an hour southwest of here). If you want to see more pictures from Fall Creek Falls (since it is a VERY special place to George and me) --look on my sidebar on the right and find labels. Click on FALL CREEK FALLS listed under the Labels.

Above is a picture taken from the lodge looking across the lake. See those people out there in a rowboat???? Ready to go???? It looked like SO much fun!!!! More pictures are below.

Here we are --after a delicious buffet dinner. George took this picture of us. At the head of the table is Wes. On the left is John, Carol and Bonnie. And on the right is Darlene and me.

I love this picture showing the green evergreen and the red Fall colors.

Now let's enjoy the yelllows of Fall.

You can see Fall Creek Falls in the lower right corner--but I took this picture to show some of the Fall Colors along the gorge.

George took this picture of us ---standing VERY close to the Cascades.

George and I are on our way to Tallulah Gorge in Georgia today. I will have the laptop---so I'll catch up when possible (and when I have a signal in those mountains).

There will be one more post (using timer) tomorrow from Fall Creek Falls.

Hope you all will have a great week. I'll get back with you when I can.
