Welcome to JOYFUL REFLECTIONS. Also welcome to MARCH!!!! My header picture this month is a photo I took of the pretty Crocus blooms in our yard... The Crocuses and Daffodils are the first signs of spring here in Tennessee. I am definitely ready for SPRING...

Our Yard in August

This past Monday,  I showed you how close the deer came to our ROSES....  Today,  I'm showing you how pretty the roses are now.   We have had milder weather recently (thank goodness)---and some rain (not enough--but some)....  This weather (more like Spring or Fall weather) is what the Roses LOVE....  Wish you could be here to see them in person.. They are really showing off...  I love 'walking the yard' ---and oohing and ahhing...

On August 15,  I took a bunch of pictures of the roses and the yard ---so hope you enjoy them today!!!!   I took some of the individual roses which I've put in collages for you.  Click on them for enlargements..

The roses in this bed (Road Flowerbed) are blooming like crazy!!!!   In this photo--you can see the left-over Lily stems,  some Irises (a couple of them are blooming now also) --and lots of roses... (Can you believe that this bed was new and BARE a couple of years ago???????? Wow!)   You can tell that it is almost Fall by looking at our Redbud tree in the background!

Here is an example of how beautiful the roses are right now.  This beauty is named Ronald Reagan.   This is always a favorite of mine.

Here's a picture of the yard when looking from the house toward the road...  If you compare this photo with some of our Spring yard photos,  the roses are just as beautiful (or more-so) ---but the yard and surrounding trees are showing a 'hint' of Fall...  Kinda neat to watch the seasons gradually change,  isn't it?

And --this photo was taken from the road looking back at the house.  You can see that some of the trees in back have already lost their leaves.   The rosebush in the middle of the picture is named Veterans Honor....  It's one of my favorites also...

Look carefully at our house.  The shutters are off ---and it's ready for painting... Not sure when it will be done/complete--but I'll show pictures once it is!!!! It will be a darker green... Can't wait!!!!

Also in our yard (back yard) I found a HUGE toadstool (or mushroom or fungi)... Whatever you call it,  I think this is the largest one I've seen in or around our yard...  It almost looks like a HEART.  Nice,  don't you think?

To give you an idea of the size of this one,  I put my size 8 1/2 shoe beside it.   I've seen bigger toadstools before ---but not in our yard!!!!!  Isn't it pretty?

Finally,  here is a picture of the toadstool from the side --so that you can see a little of the stem..  I didn't see anymore near that area ---so this 'guy' was there just growing all by himself!!!!

I'll close with one more collage showing an 'up close and personal' view of  some of our beautiful roses.... Like I said above,  wish you were here to enjoy them also!!!!  The top left is a favorite,  Peppermint Splash.   (All of the rose pictures in today's blog post were taken on 8/15/12 and the mushroom pictures were taken on 8/9/12.)

Hope you have an incredibly blessed Wednesday.

Hugs,
Betsy

Your roses are gorgeous and I noticed the changing leaves before you mentioned it. I can't wait for cooler weather!

Very nice 'shroom shot! (especially the side view) George should have snapped a photo of you taking it. I'm trying to imagine your position. *grin

Betsy, your roses are simply beautiful. I love all the colors. Cool shots of the mushroom. It is a big one. Hope you & George have a great day.

Beautiful roses all of them - they make a great show at this time of the year.
I want to take some more photos of our little English garden before Autumn arrives. The roses seem to keep blooming, but I haven't got the wonderful variety you have.
Happy Wednesday to you both!

Your place always looks so immaculate. I'm loving these low 60 degree mornings.

My middle name is Rose - how could I not love roses? These are so beautiful. Think I'm gonna pass up my Biltmore pass next year and just come walk your garden!

If I were a deer, I'd be lining up to this beautiful buffet too!! That last showing of roses is the best I think. Probably because we know they'll start their winter's rest so soon.

Best,
Bonnie

Your roses just look so perfect.

Beautiful.....the roses around our yard are all dried up, even if I go out and irrigate them each morning, the 100 degree temps and hot dry winds are blistering their foliage. {{{sigh}}}

That toadstool is humongous. Find any gnomes?

That is some funky fungi! I can't believe how huge it is!

Betsy, your yard is ALWAYS pretty! A;ways something new blooming! The roses are gorgeous!
Many thanks for your generous comments on my blog!!!
I'm lovin' the feel of Fall in the air!!!

Looks like a fairy or gnome could build a home under that toadstool. Your roses are lovely this time of year. Fall is in the air here too. I notice the shift of the sun through the yard and tulip poplars are showing some yellowing of leaves. I'll have to check the black gum to see if it's turned red yet. It's usually the first to go.

You definitely have the Biltmore Gradens of your neighborhood! As hot as it was it is surprising how beuatiful they still are. Thankyou for letting us enjoy all the beauty around you.

That mushroom is huge! You just need a little field mouse to pose under it...

Betsy, I still say you have the prettiest yard I have ever seen. I love the toadstool; how interesting.

Lovely roses, Betsy. All we have here are Knock Out roses, and they have taken new blooming. Beautiful!

Yellow roses were my mother's favorite flower.

Absolutely LOVE the toadstool, but you know how much more I love the roses. The garden is beautiful, Betsy!

I think you have as much trouble picking favorites as we all do. :) The roses and your yard are just lovely. I think some of the early dropping of leaves is due to that extreme drought that we had earlier in the summer, don't you? We're beginning to recover here, as I know you are also; but I'm afraid we're going to feel the effect through the fall season.

i love the pale pink rose in the top collage. and that is one AWESOME toadstool!

The roses are all so beautiful! And look at the green in your yard...it looks so good. We're starved for some green here. We've had no rain yet...it's getting critical.
The toadstool is a whopper! Don't think I've seen one that big before!
Hope you are doing well. Take care!

Your neighbors must be jealous. That mushroom looks good enough to eat, but I wouldn't.

I loved looking at your roses today. They are so beautiful. I am enjoying the way the yard and flowers are changing also, but in many ways, I'm so not ready for fall.

I love the mushroom. That is amazing.

Your roses are so beautiful. I know it takes tons of work to keep them so beautiful. I only have a few and they struggle every year our soil is mostly clay and roses do not like clay.

Miss Debbie said...

The roses are lovely. I bet they smell lovely, too! Quite a toadstool. We seldom have them, either. They are interesting to look at.

CottonLady said...

Absolutely gorgeous roses, Betsy! I thought the Ronald Reagan and Veterans Honor were the showiest. Can almost smell them from here!
Blessings!

That fungi is HUGE! I don't think I've ever seen one that big ever, either.

August has become fall here, really strange. I just hope we have a long, long lovely fall, not a suddenly winter thing.

Stunning Roses Betsy, and Im so pleased the deer didn't have any of them for breakfast or lunch. (thank you for the explanation re the deer too, it was appreciated)

Yes! I can just see the hint of fall happening around you! I'm watching the hint of spring here!

Wow. And I say again. Wow. That mushroom is awesome. And the shape!!

Here's a question - In the winter when roses are pruned back, is it possible to successfully dig them up and transplant them? I have three in a too small spot. I want to move the center one but haven't had the nerve.

WOW WOW WOWSA! A toadstool. I've heard of this fungi but I thought it was fictional or I don't think I've ever seen a real one. This is a first for me:) I just looked at the 'shroom. From that side, it's an incredible piece of art. Thanks for sharing this guy. Cool stuff. And I can smell your roses:) Wonderful color.

Those are all nice pictures, but I especially like the last one of the toadstool. And the redbud hinting at fall makes me long for a foliage trip!

My garden is getting brown and losing all it's color. We have yellow leaves starting on our leaves. I am very envious of your colors!

You have a lovely home Betsy, and your garden is an extension of that. I can see all the TLC you and George pour into it. Gorgeous blooms abound.

So pretty! I know you and George are a LOT more dedicated to your garden than I am ... and it shows!! I don't know why; but when it comes to growing roses my green thumb goes down. I've tried on several occasions to grow them and they just don't do well for me.

Beth said...

What a lot of work that has to be! But wow---the blessings!
One of my top favorites is the peppermint also--I remember it from previous posts---and also the Ronald Reagan.
Wonderful post, Betsy; thanks for sharing your awesome flowers with us!:>)
