DEER and BIRDS

Aren't the little fawns adorable?
I thought you might enjoy some recent pictures of bird and deer activity in and around our home.   I'll start with the deer...  This is the time of year when  Mama Deer will bring her little ones out into the open to eat!!!!  I have been watching for them,  but they 'love' to hide from me!!!! ha...  I do have 3 recent photos to share... Hope you enjoy them.

This Mama was alone and running from me.   However,  I snapped a good shot of her --with the afternoon sun showing off her beauty!

Here is the latest picture I have of the little fawns... They certainly are growing fast... Look at those long and lanky legs!!!!

Here is a photo of two Mourning Doves sharing (sorta) the Plate Feeder with a little Carolina Chickadee.

This is a cute picture of a White-breasted Nuthatch talking with a Goldfinch... I think I heard him say: "Come on Down, Mr. Goldfinch.  There's enough here for both of us."

Here  is Mr.  House Finch --enjoying some dinner!!!  Since it's getting late in the season,  many of the colorful birds are now beginning to lose their pretty colors.

Mama  House Finch  ( or maybe this is a juvenile) is enjoying a short nap after having dinner...

Here's another picture of my resident Mourning Doves...  They come to the Plate Feeder in the late afternoon/evening.

Finally,  here are two pictures I got of one of our Hummingbirds.   YES---they finally came to our home to visit ---and we see (and hear) them at both of their feeders now off and on all day.  We mostly have Ruby-throated Hummingbirds here.  This feeder is in our front yard near one of our rose beds.

This is a picture I captured  of one of the Hummers at the feeder on our back deck.  The females don't have a ruby-colored throat like the males do.

Hope you enjoyed seeing our birds and deer.   Since we live in the woods,  we also have other wildlife critters nearby....  There is a family of raccoons which visit our deck during the night (to eat any left-over birdseed)...  We also have bats which take naps during the night on our front porch.... No pictures yet of either though...

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Hugs,
Betsy

I am thinking it is pure joy sitting on your deck watching the wildlife visit! That is my idea of a good time.

Happy Wednesday Betsy!

Of course, you know me....those photos of the birds are awesome. I especially liked the one of the nuthatch and goldfinch conversing over their dinner. And the napping finch. [The House finch...we don't have them here, wish we did!!]

Great photos. My problem is the birds won't stay still! LOL

And I could only see two fawns in that first photo. Did you miscount or mistype?

The semper you sent me are doing fine. Thanks again.

I esp. like that first shot of the family--quite endearing.
Then I smiled at polite Mr. Goldfinch awaiting an invitation.
A chuckle for the napping bird--who doesn't enjoy a quick nap after dinner? Actually, I take one before dinner so I have the energy and mind alertness to fix one!

Beautiful shots of the fawns, they are so cute. It must be lovely to have the beauty of nature just at your door step, I can only imagine. How I miss living on the country side. Here in the city it's just grey and dull. Have a lovely day!

Eva

Seeing the deer on your yard must be a thrill, especially if they leave your plants alone.I love the Mourning Doves, they have such a soft and gentle look to them.

Cute to see the little mama take a snooze! When I see two birds nattering at one another, I almost imagine what their conversation must be like! Any more mourning doves on one side of the plate and it would topple, lol! Just love all those great photos - especially the fawn! Enjoy your day!

We're starting off real cool around here - 45/7C but we've been promised it will warm up. I LOVE sleeping with the open window and having a cool night!

It's always nice to be able to see wildlife right outside your own door. I don't mind bats at all since we consume so many insects. I've always wanted to put up a couple of bat houses in my back yard, just haven't done it yet.

I so enjoy seeing your pictures, Betsy. You have such a great viewing area in your yard. The hummingbirds have been around here for a while now , but my Baltimore Orioles have flown away for the season. You know it does seem like the birds talk to each other especially when they are arguing over who gets to eat when.

I'm so fascinated with bats.... not sure why? ;)
Love seeing the little lanky legged deer and that photo of the house finch having a nap is the cutest!
Great captures Betsy.

You have a lot of the same visitors we do. Our mother deer and the babies have been back recently, and we discovered we have a bat who had been sleeping under our deck. It flew out when Jack was doing some painting...not sure if it came back or not.

Have a nice day!

I love seeing your deer pictures!! The Nuthatch may be saying to the Goldfinch, "Back off Buddy, this is all mine!" ;-)
Have a great day!

What a change seeing pictures from your own yard. Usually it's you and your rambing adventures. Love the deer. Their ears remind me of my little dog's.

The fawns are so cute! Love all your bird pictures, too. I have lots of finches, but no chickadees in this area.
You are blessed with all your wildlife, Betsy.
Blessings!

I always love your bird photos, Betsy! One of my favorite things to do is relax on the back patio and watch the birds and look for wildlife. Usually something will make an appearance! When we talk about moving somewhere else when he retires, I wonder how I could give up my birds and other critters that roam our back 6 acres. It would be hard!

Know you must enjoy all the critters! Amazing that you got pics of the hummingbirds...they move so fast! Neat!

Love seeing the fawns this time of year!
Lily and Lucy loved seeing them in the backyard. I must post some pics this week.
So many birds. I don't feed as much in the summer so I'm missing seeing the birds. You still have quite a variety.
Little Lucy heard the doves and asked if it was an owl. :)
Great shots from your yard Betsy!

Besides your paradise of a garden, you also have one for some of natures best animals. My great grandson would dearly love it there with all the deer.

The deer certainly do look adorable. Are they close enough for you to just sit in your garden and watch them?

Ann said...

what a joy to sit and watch the wild life. I always wished that we lived somewhere that we could do that. We get birds and an occasional rabbit or squirrel but it would be nice to have deer grazing once in a while too

I always LOVE your "wildlife in my backyard" posts. Lovely lovely birds as always and I can't get over how large that Momma Doe is. She is taller than the other Momma. What a treat to have in your own yard! Glad you caught some of those elusive hummers. They are so cool anywhere anytime. Everyone always stops to watch them. A cross between a butterfly and bird indeed:)

I love all your beautiful wild life you have in your yard - from all the birds to the deers. You are lucky to have them visit and gets those great photos.

You sure have some cute critters in your yard. The fawns are gorgeous. Snapping humming birds must be very difficult. You've done a great job.

A wonderful post of many of your wild life visitors. Watching them must be such a pleasure. Your life is so interesting.
I love all your photos, but so pleased to see the shots of the hummingbirds. They would be so difficult to capture on film.

Wonderful photos, Betsy! I especially love the one of the nuthatch and goldfinch talking to each other. I think they're saying, "Wow, this is the best restaurant ever!" :-)

I am so glad I get to keep up with you on Facebook! The girls are in their second day of school, and this is the very first morning I have had in a very long time to just sit out in my sun room and catch up on everyone's blogs. Of course I should be doing major repair work to the inside of my house from all the running, dumping, grabbing, and going again we have been doing, but sometimes a girl just has to do what a girl has to do. Guess I'm trying to say that, "I'm back!" ;-) Love seeing your deer and birds. I wish our deer would come up to the house, but we rarely see them that close. Why would they with all the fields to run and hide in.

Small City Scenes said...

Excellent photos, Betsy. The deer are so precious aren't they. We have several that wander through all season. They love the garden of course so we share. LOL MB

Hi Betsy, You sure do take great pictures of your visiting critters! I especially like the photographs of your hummers. Very nicely done! Glad you have the deer on occasion. No deer around here these days but I never know. I have not ever seen any Raccoons here but again, you never know. Enjoy your deer! Have a wonderful day today!

Darling shots of the deer Betsy. They are such a pleasure to see, as are the bird photos you have taken. I hope you get to photograph the bats and raccoons. I was studying photos of a group of bats the other day. Their faces are so sweet, like a little dog, and then what a surprise to see those bat-like wings.

Nice shots Betsy and not too long before all the activity subsides (all too soon).

Our daughter has bats in her area, too. She says she and her husband have been known to sit on the porch in the evening and watch them fly out and about!
